Love yourself first‘Life is like a box of chocolates, you just don’t know what you’re gonna get’ wise words from Forrest Gump and never a truer word for 2019. It would seem that within monumental highs there have been equally monumental lows. This isn’t limited to me or the college but seems to generally reflect 2019 (soon to be known as the year that no one wants to talk about!!)

It would be easy to be critical and embrace the hardship last year has brought and allow misery to overtake our lives. It sounds contrite that every hardship just needs time, and this too shall pass – but it does. It is also important to see that each time we work through something difficult there are positives – we learn things about ourselves we didn’t know, we grow in confidence, we accept our limitations, we choose where to invest our time and energy and often in losing, be it friends or loved ones, we find our self-worth.

In the face of adversity, we surprise ourselves with our strength and courage, those that love us appear and reinforce our place in their lives, and the kindness of strangers replaces damage done by those whom you trusted.

In everything, there is a chance to learn and a chance to grow. The positive for me is that 2019 has brought resilience. It has allowed me to take stock and re-evaluate what is important and what I need to be the best version of myself. And in doing that the people around me will get a better version of me too. I have to love myself first.

One big step I have been taking is studying at University. The program is online and I generally have the discipline of a three-year-old in a lolly shop! This study (partly terrifying) has seen me develop skills that I would not have believed I had. That my motto of loving myself first and knowing this educational investment would be good for me, has made me challenge myself and think differently. Is it easy? No. Have I wanted to give up? Yes. Have I wasted many hours looking at cat videos? Also, yes. Do I feel accomplished and proud? Very much yes.

People are amazing, we have the capacity to transform our lives, and this transformation can only happen when you love yourself first. So, don’t waste another minute – love yourself first, you are totally worth it.

Course Description:This qualification, taught by our experienced educators who are all Registered Nurses, covers the application of skills and knowledge required to provide nursing care for people across the health sector. These skills include communicating with patients, working in a team, medication, and clinical nursing duties. South Coast Careers Colleges Diploma of Nursing course is your chance to study locally, and start a career working in one of our most vital industries. Throughout the course, you will be equipped with the essential skills required to work as an Enrolled Nurse within a variety of health and aged care settings. This fun and informative eight-week course is for seniors over 60 with little to no experience using computers, tablets and smart phones.You will learn the skills and confidence to navigate the online world, including email, internet use, online banking, cyber safety, online shopping and social media. Get connected and learn at your own pace. Bring your own device or use ours – it’s up to you!

This course has been designed for those without electrical training to acquire the skills to perform inspections and tests of electrical equipment using a Portable Appliance Tester as per the NSW WHS regulations and the Australian Standard 3760. This course covers testing and tagging for appliances that would normally plug into a standard 3 pin 10 or 15 amp outlet. Also covered is the use of a portable appliance tester to test the operation (trip time and threshold current) of Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers (also known as RCDs or safety switches). Successful participants will receive a Statement of Training. No annual re- licensing fees.

Join us for a super fun, personalised and hands-on makeup workshop and learn how to apply your makeup confidently.This class is a great starting point for people that would like to learn more about how to apply makeup products that will keep you looking good all day. Your instructor will share new and trending techniques and you’ll have a fun information filled day changing your ‘look’.You will learn two different, wearable eye makeup looks for everyday wear and occasional wear.BYO makeup (trainer will also have makeup supplies).

Join local musician Peter as he teaches you the finer art of playing your guitar! This course will teach you how to correctly tune your guitar, and how to make your fingers dance across the guitar strings. Start with our Beginners course then move to the Intermediate class in April 2020. Pop, rock and blues material included. Peter has years of experience teaching, performing nationally and internationally, and has worked with many well-known Australian artists. Learn to Sew

Sew Basic Alterations

In this beginner’s course you will learn how sewing machines work and basics about fabric, needles, threads and bobbins. You’ll make an upmarket tote bag and learn the basics of seaming, pin stitching, top stitching, and more. BYO sewing machine - kit provided by the trainer.

This workshop assumes you know to thread your sewing machine correctly, select stitches and alter width and length and can sew basic seams. Learn different types of needles and threads to use and what tools are necessary for a basic sewing kit. You will be shown how to pin and measure basic hems correctly, basic buttonhole techniques, complete samples for various hems, a buttonhole and sewing on a holed button by hand and machine.Basic sewing skills required. BYO machine. Kit provided by the trainer.

Overlocker Basics & Techniques

Overlocker Fancy Finishes

Learn about the parts of your overlocker, basic care and maintenance, master threading of your overlocker and understand basic tension problems and the use of your differential feed capability. Learn tips for corners, curves, gathering and working with elastic. Learn the troubleshooting basics and walk away with a detailed workbook of samples and settings for your machine. Suitable for 3, 4 & 5 thread overlockers with differential feed. Coverstitch capability is not covered in this class. PLEASE NOTE: Your overlocker must be in good working order ie: new or serviced within the past 18 months.

Moving on from the overlocker basics class you will cover roll hem techniques (including a lettuce edge) on different fabrics. Learn about and play with a variety of specialist threads and techniques and experiment with flat locking and ladder stitch using a variety of decorative threads. You will add more sample sheets to your workbook. Suitable for 3, 4 and 5 thread overlockers with differential feed. COVERSTITCH capability is not covered in this class. Pre-requisites: completion (or prior knowledge) of overlocker basics and techniques. PLEASE NOTE: Your overlocker must be in good working order ie new or serviced within the past 18 months. Kit provided by the trainer - other requirements list will be emailed once payment is received.

Privacy and Refund PolicyOnce we have processed payment for a student enrolment, South Coast Colleges only issues a refund under the following conditions: · A course is cancelled by the Organisation · A student withdraws up to 7 days before the course commences. If a student withdraws from a course less than 7 days prior to course commencing, a refund will only be made if we have sufficient numbers to run the course.· An administration withdrawal fee applies – currently set at $25 per course withdrawal. There are no refunds made after a course has commenced. While we make every effort to ensure a positive learning outcome, we cannot accept responsibility for the student’s own abilities and application. We cannot be responsible for changes in a student’s circumstances. Once a course has commenced there will be no refunds or credit notes issued.
