Apprenticeships

An Apprenticeship is a work-based training programme which allows employees to complement the skills that they learn, develop and use within the workplace with theoretical knowledge gained at College.

Training outcomesOn completion employees will achieve:• a NVQ in their chosen occupation (NVQ Level 2 for

Intermediate Apprenticeships, NVQ Level 3 for Advanced Apprenticeships and NVQ Level 4/5 for Higher Apprenticeships)

• technical certificates relevant to their occupation and level of work

What is the training about?This training is ideal for employees who want to enhance their career prospects in Management. It has been designed for new managers to help employees consolidate skills and knowledge as they start on the first rung of management.

For practising first-line managers, this will further develop their management and leadership skills, build business knowledge and boost career prospects.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements, but employees should be new to their management or leadership roles.

Training outcomesYou will study three units in management skills to include topics such as: • problem solving and decision making• understanding Leadership• Motivation

Conflict Management Certificate

What is the training about?The aim of this training is to introduce delegates to the impact of conflict in the workplace and explore resources that can be used to help reduce or remove conflict.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements but is particularly suitable for those delegates in management or leadership roles.

Training outcomesThe session will look at the following areas: identify causes of conflict at work, describe the stages in the development of conflict, explore the effects of conflict on individual and team performance at work, explore recognised techniques a manager could use to minimise and resolve conflict in the workplace, describe how a manager could create harmony at work and engender a positive atmosphere in order to minimise the adverse effects of conflict.

Coaching and MentoringCertificate

What is the training about?This workshop will investigate delegates’ coaching and mentoring capabilities by applying their skills to different scenarios.

The course will explore the essential skills of coaching and mentoring: listening, questioning, feedback and develop your existing coaching and mentoring skills. It will also define the role of a coach and mentor, discuss the process of coaching and mentoring, explore the ideas and theory of different coaching/mentoring models, and identify the benefits of each model for different coaching/mentoring situations

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements but is particularly suitable for those delegates in leadership roles.

Training outcomesBy the end of this training delegates will understand and be able to promote the benefits of learning, give feedback and develop a learning plan whilst considering individual and organisational needs, improve communication and understand body language.

What is the training about?Appraisal training explains the process of appraisals and explores delegate’s own feelings and attitudes to the process.

What is the training about?This training is ideal for employees who want to enhance their career prospects in Team Leading. It has been designed for team leaders with a degree of authority for managing resources, looking to motivate their team members as well as achieve agreed outputs.

This programme gives employees the opportunity to gain recognition and enhance the core competences needed by today’s team leaders.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements but employees should be new team leading.

Training outcomesYou will study three units in management skills. Including: • set objectives and provide support for team members • plan, allocate and monitor work of a team • make effective decisions.

What is the training about?Team leading is specially designed to give practising or aspiring team leaders a solid foundation in their formal professional development as a leader.

Who should attend?Employees must be in a supervisory position within their organisation.

Training outcomesThe outcomes will give employees a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader and the limits of their authority and accountability.

Employees will need to complete a minimum of 40 credits, 22 from mandatory units:• manage personal performance and development• communicate work related information• lead and manage a team• principles of team leading• understanding business.

Employees will then need to select 18 credits from a range of optional units that best fits their job role.

DurationSix to nine months, depending on the employee.

AssessmentAssessment is continuous.

ProgressionTo a Level 3 in management if the employee’s job role allows.

What is the training about?This distance learning course is ideal for employees wanting to develop their knowledge and understanding of the principles and theories of effective team leadership. Who should attend?There are no academic requirements but employees must be 19 and over and have lived in the EU for the past three years to qualify for funding.

Training outcomesThe course is made up of four work books with accompanying resources. The topics covered are: • preparing to lead the team • supporting the development of self and team members• communication within the team• how to motivate your team • the role of the team leader in relation to Equality

and Diversity.

Duration12 weeks.

AssessmentAssessment is via coursework.

ProgressionThe course can support employees in their current role or with career progression. The learner could progress onto a higher level qualification such as a Level 3 QCF or Apprenticeship.

What is the training about?Time management training will help delegates to examine what they spend time doing and how to create additional time in order to improve productivity.

Training outcomesDuring the day delegates will examine the reasons for being effective, identify their needs for personal effectiveness, know the areas that they need to improve upon, and learn skills and techniques needed to make the most of themselves and their time. Delegates will also look at the real cost of their time and the effect this has on the workplace.

What is the training about?This training is specially designed to give practising or aspiring team leaders a solid foundation in their formal development as a leader.

Who should attend?There are no formal entry requirements except that delegates are required to be in a supervisory position within their organisation

Training outcomesThis is a concise qualification designed to give delegates a basic knowledge of the various roles, functions and responsibilities of a team leader and the limits of their authority and accountability. The mandatory unit in ‘developing yourself as a team leader’ is a good starting point for team/cell leaders who are new to their roles or for aspiring leaders who wish to gain a solid understanding of the principles and practicalities of team leading.

DurationEvening classes/workshops run from 6 to 9pm. Delegates will then have time to submit their assignments in a 12 month period.

AssessmentAssessment is continuous via coursework.

ProgressionTo a Level 3 in Management if the job role allows this. Alternatively delegates could gain more confidence in their team leading role and could lead to promotion within the organisation to a more senior management role.
