FRACKING IN THE MONTEREY SHALE

Graduated in 1985 from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Global Political Economy.

David Edick Jr is an independent fi-nancial & management consultant fo-cused on energy, commodities, Rus-sia, political risk, and global financial markets.

Long active in international trade, investment banking, and internation-ally-oriented nonprofits, David worked in Russia in the 1990’s as owner of California Trading & Industrial Corpo-ration - a food importer and whole-saler. He later worked with Vtoroi Finansovyi Dom - a British-Russian investment bank. Subsequently, as Executive Vice President of Cortez

Seafoods, David exported seafood from Mexico to Asia and Europe.

David is President of the World Affairs Council of San Diego and President of the San Diego International Sister Cities Association (Alcala de Hena-res, Spain; Campinas, Brazil; Cavite, Philippines; Edinburgh, Scotland; Ja-lalabad, Afghanistan; Jeonju, Korea; Leon, Mexico; Perth, Australia; Taic-hung, Taiwan; Tema, Ghana; Tijuana, Mexico; Vladivostok, Russia; Warsaw & Mazovia Province, Poland; Yantai, China; and Yokohama, Japan). David is 6-term past President of the San Diego-Vladivostok Sister City Society, and serves on the Community Advi-sory Board of the San Diego Diplo-macy Council.

“Hydraulic fracturing, commonly known as “frack-ing” is a revolutionary development in America’s oil and gas industry. It is also raised considerable con-troversy. 4 WAY TEST

For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action. It has been for years, and it will be in the future. Of the things we think, say or do

As Rotarians, we should have The Four-Way Test in mind in every decision we make, all day long. Our utmost responsi-bility is to Speak The Truth, to Be Fair, to Build Goodwill and Better Friendships, and to do our very best in all situations.

4 Way Test was developed in 1932 by

Herbert J. Taylor.

---- 1 ---- Is it the TRUTH?

---- 2 ----Is it FAIR to all concerned?

---- 3 ----

Will it build GOODWILL and

better FRIENDSHIPS?

---- 4 ----Will it be BENEFICIAL

to all concerned?

Members arrived at the Sheraton parking lot and were immediately worried when they saw that there was a parking fee. “It was supposed to be free!” Later they saw that the parking ticket would be validated. But where? Inside we were all shuttled from place to place. Finally when the meeting was halfway through, we learned that there was a validation machine in the back of the meeting room.

Romik Kesian, our Rotarian of the day, showed his old signature opening video from when he was President. He then shared a quote from Kahlil Gibran about the importance of giv-ing of yourself--which he said, we do as Rotarians. He works for JLL-- the largest real estate firm in the world. Romik is currently working on the Chula Vista bayfront Master Plan. He invited anyone with a few million dol-lars to invest with him.

Ellen Bryson got blankets for her Easter Baskets. Tom Elliott was able to honestly testify that no Rotar-ians went to the Marriott. Alex Mon-roe blamed his wife for a few comput-er problems. And Krishna Arora stole his son’s old shirt to wear today. Roger Drexler introduced the Pre-uss Student of the Month who wants to become a nurse. He also told us

that the annual theatre party will be June 7. There will be either a delicious dinner or other good food at Emi-dio’s house. Afterwards, attendees will go to see, “The Sunshine Boys” by Neil Simon.

Erik Mjoen introduced 4 students from Preuss who will participate in the Model United Nations meeting this weekend at the Joan Kroc In-stitute. Students represent different nations and they will discuss South Sudan and cyber security. Each of the four students gave a brief introduction to their position. The Model UN was started 10 years ago by Dory Bea-trice and Marty Rosenstein. This year there are teams from Mex-ico, Canada, and Riverside and Or-ange County--70 students altogether.

Bev Fritschner introduced our speaker, Jeanne Rawdin, Ex-ecutive Director of the Tariq Khamisa Foundation. The goal is to transform middle school at risk children and turn them into achievement oriented individuals. They have been very suc-

cessful in changing the behavior pat-terns and attitudes of these children, working with bullying, stealing, and gang behaviors. They would like to “take kids further” by teaming up with Reality Changes so that these chil-dren can graduate from college.

Ron Kohl announced the District Council on April 29 and the Council on June 24. The latter will be when the new district officers will be sworn in--including our own Louise Andres who will become District Governor. It would be great to have a lot of mem-bers at this dinner.

We finished our meal with a short video excerpt from John Bininette who complained about wheat aller-gies and the suffering that is caused by gluten allergies.

I was born and raised in Fond du Lac Wis-consin, population 45,000. Fond du Lac is about 1 hour north of Milwaukee and home to Mercury Marine motors and famous Walleye weekend fishing tournament. I am the eldest of five children. I have two brothers and two sisters. My father was from a family of fifteen children which made for great family gather-ings.

My father was our city’s park superintendent and my mother is a semi-retired elementary school teacher and still substitutes from time to time.

As a child, I participated in many sports. I swam competitively, played hockey and was a recipient of an Eagle Scout award.

I received my Bachelors degree in architec-ture from the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a Masters degree from the University of New Mexico and have completed numerous classes in real estate and development at UCSD.

I married my high school sweetheart Pam. We have been married nearly (30) thirty years. We are blessed to have a son Collin (22) and daughter Krista (19). Collin is a ju-nior at SDSU and a past member of their Div. 2 club ice hockey team. Krista is a student at Mesa College and recreational field hockey and soccer player.Pam and I moved to San Diego in 1987. Since moving to San Diego, I have worked for several architectural firms, I was a co-owner and principal of an architectural firm for eight years and sold the business to another local architectural firm. I have been working for Gafcon Inc. since 2003. As Program / Sr. Project Manager, I have been a part of a great team at Grossmont Cuyamaca Com-munity College District overseeing their $207 mil. Prop R master plan improvements.

Last year our firm was fortunate to be awarded the oversight of the new $398 mil. Prop V master plan.My wife telecommutes from home as a Sr. Computer Programmer. She works for FIS, a company that develops software special-

izing in financial applications. She is a great gourmet cook and extraordinary craftsper-son. She is the eldest of seven children in her family.

I have been a member of the “Most Dynamic Rotary Club in the World” for nearly 20 years. I have served as past President, board member and look forward to my continuation as a member of this active one-of-kind club. Pam and I treasure our relationships that we have developed with fellow Rotarians. We truly feel part of a large family which feels like “home” to us!
