Orphaned at the age of 11 and started training as an artist. Led an itinerant life, assimilating the influence of Florentine art but making it his own.

“Everything he knew about art he got from me!” Michelangelo’s low opinion of Raphael.

Created a large body of work though his workshop, which had over 50 workers. Very popular during his lifetime
