Office of the Chief of Protocol
Ambassador Capricia Penavic Marshall was sworn in as Chief ofProtocol of the United States on August 3, 2009.
Whether rolling out the red carpet for a King visiting the Presidentat the White House, hosting a Prime Minister at the President'sguesthouse, traveling overseas with the President, credentialing anew foreign Ambassador, or planning events for the Secretary ofState, the duties of the Office of the Chief of Protocol are manyand varied.
Led by Ambassador Marshall and Deputy Chiefs of Protocol DennisCheng and Lee Satterfield, the office is responsible for activitiesincluding:
the planning, hosting, and officiating of ceremonial events for visitingchiefs of state and heads of government,
coordinating logistics for the visits;
managing Blair House, the President's guesthouse;
overseeing all protocol matters for Presidential or Vice Presidentialtravel abroad, working alongside the White House.

Gifts Unit
The Protocol Gifts Unit within the Office of the Chief of
Protocol serves as the central processing point for all tangible
gifts received from foreign sources, by employees of the
Executive Branch of the Federal government.
The unit is responsible for the creation and maintenance of
the official record of all gifts presented by the Department of
State to officials of foreign governments.

The dinner will take place in the State Dining Room onthe State Floor of the White House, following areception in the East Room on the State Floor.
134 guests will be seated in the State Dining Room.
A diverse representation of guests from across the
country will attend the State Dinner. An American and aBritish delegation will represent their respectivecountries at the State Dinner. The Vice President andMrs. Cheney, Secretary Rice, Secretary and Mrs. Gates,and General and Mrs. Pace are among the Americandelegation.

Preparation for the Dinner
Mrs. Bush planned the dinner menu with her SocialSecretary Amy Zantzinger and Executive Chef Cristeta"Cris" Comerford to prepare the dinner menu. ChefComerford has worked in the White House kitchen since1995 and was named Executive Chef in August, 2005.
Mrs. Bush also coordinated with Social Secretary AmyZantzinger and Bill Yosses, the White House ExecutivePastry Chef responsible for creating the dessert. ChefYosses was named Executive Pastry Chef in January 2007.

The Room Setting
The table settings will be appropriately appointed with
historically significant pieces, including: Cream Damask tablecloths with beige stri to cover the
thirteen tables.
Each table will be adorned with the Clinton China, which isivory with a gold rim, and features a vignette of the White
House; the Vermeil Flatware; the President's House crystalpattern; and alternating candelabras and containers fromthe Vermeil collection.
Pieces from the Vermeil (French term for gilded silver)collection are 18th and 19th century English
The Vermeil collection has been used throughout theWhite House for almost fifty years and was received in1957 as a bequest from Mrs. Margaret Thompson Biddle,heiress to a Montana mining fortune.

White House Coordination with the Office of Protocol
As with every State visit, the White House coordinateswith the Office of Protocol, which resides at theDepartment of State.
Ray Martinez serves as the Acting Chief of Protocol ofthe United States. There is always tight coordination
between the Office of Protocol and White Houseentities, including the First Lady's Office, the WhiteHouse Military Office, and the National Security Council.
The Office of Protocol also ensures specific informationis provided in preparation for State visits hosted by the
President and Mrs. Bush, such as the proper way toaddress foreign dignitaries and visitors, dietaryrestrictions, and overall logistical movements.

The Schedule of the Her Majesty's Visit to America
Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will visit the United States
from May 3 8, 2007. The Queen and Duke will visit Virginia(Richmond, Williamsburg and Jamestown) on May 3 4, 2007, tomark the 400th Anniversary of the Jamestown settlement.Separately in Virginia, the Duke will visit Norfolk.
On May 5, 2007, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will visitKentucky to attend the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby. The
royal couple will then visit Washington, D.C. on May 7 and 8,2007, where they will be hosted by President and Mrs. Bush,including at a State Dinner at the White House.
Her Majesty and Mrs. Bush will visit the Childrens NationalMedical Center in Washington, D.C. on May 8, 2007, as well.
The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh will then host a Return Dinnerfor the President and Mrs. Bush at the Embassy of Britain on May8, 2007.

The Social Secretary
The Social Secretary is Amy Zantzinger. Mrs.Zantzinger is Special Assistant to the Presidentand White House Social Secretary. She wasnamed to this position in January 2007 and mostrecently owned an exclusive national interiordesign firm with design services for bothresidential and commercial clients throughoutthe United States.
Previously, Zantzinger worked with thenPresident George H. W. Bush in the White Houseas well as for the Bush family for both of GeorgeH. W. Bush's campaigns.

planning, and effective interagencycoordination.
The Chief Usher is responsible for activities thatoccur in the Executive Residence and on the
grounds, including the Arrival Ceremony andthe set up of stages and continues through theevening for the Dinner.
