Layers
Layers are used to
group related
objects in a
drawing.
Objects that
describe one
component,
function, or
process of a
drawing are

Layers
A CAD drawing is
composed of
several
components and,
therefore several
layers.

Layers
Layers provide a method to control visible
features of the components of a drawing.
For each layer you can control for its objects:
Color on the screen.
Linetype.
Lineweight
Visibility setting ON/OFFPlot or NOT

may overrideLayers assigning

Difficult to see which

layers name, visibilitysettings, andproperties.
Cannot change layersproperties or create

Plot/No Plot Used to prevent a layer from being
plotted.
Red circle appears over the printer icon.
3 methods to prevent plotting the layer are: Freeze

Plot/No plot
Current Viewport Freeze, New Viewport Freeze
Options are used/displayed in layer properties
manager only when paper space viewports exist
in drawing. (Chap 13 & 33)
