WelfareWe are committed to providing a high standard of welfare so that our students have an educational and enjoyable time at Liverpool School of English. The student is at the heart of everything we do and we want our students to feel listened to and be treated as individuals. We have appropriate and efficient welfare systems and it is our first priority to ensure our students and group leaders are safe, happy and comfortable.
RulesOur rules for school and for accommodation are clear and carefully designed to ensure the safety and comfort of our students. During students’ first day induction our code of conduct and information on safety and welfare is presented clearly and carefully.
All students are provided with a summer school handbook so they know what behaviour is expected from them both inside and outside of school. Our summer school induction and handbook also ensure students and group leaders know what to expect in terms of accommodation and welfare support from our staff.
www.lse.uk.net | #LiverpoolSE An English and Culture Course for 10-17 year olds | Page 21
WelfareSafetyAll of our students have a personal ID card with emergency contact information.
A 24-hour emergency contact number is provided for students and group leaders. Students are given a wristband with the emergency number on which they must wear at all times.
It is compulsory for all students to have health and travel insurance before leaving their home country.
Liverpool School of English is working in partnership with Endsleigh, to provide our students with a policy which has been specifically designed to meet your requirements whilst you are studying in the UK. We strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance at the time of booking the trip as cover will commence for pre-departure cancellation from the date accepted for cover. This will, therefore, provide cover should the trip have to be cancelled for an insured reason such as illness or serious accident preventing travel. If international student travel insurance has not been requested through Liverpool School of English, students must arrange their own suitable travel insurance and travel with all relevant policy documents upon arrival to the UK.
We provide and follow clear guidelines and policies surrounding Prevent. The Prevent Lead is Anna Goodband.
MealsWe work closely with the catering team to ensure we provide nutritious meals for our students, group leaders and staff. Our summer school programme is busy and active so our students need good quality food which is healthy and varied.
On weekdays with lessons, students in residence have breakfast, hot lunch and dinner. On weekends and full excursion days, packed breakfasts and lunches are provided with an evening meal either at the colleges or in a restaurant.
Homestay hosts provide breakfast every day for their students. On weekdays with lessons, hot lunch is provided. On excursion days, hosts provide a packed lunch. Most evening meals are taken with the homestay hosts. When homestay students have a long excursion day, we provide an evening meal either at the college or in a restaurant once a week.
Group LeadersThere is an allocated homeroom in the college so students can meet with their group leader before school, afternoon excursions and evening activities.
Our group leaders meet with our summer school management team every day to make sure that each and every student is safe and well. They discuss all aspects of the programme – welfare, accommodation, meals, learning, excursions and activities - to ensure any issues are identified and resolved as quickly as possible.
StaffThere is a Welfare Team located at each of our summer school sites. The role of our Welfare Team is to ensure that all of the students are healthy, happy and safe during their stay and to provide a clear point of contact for all welfare issues. All students meet our Welfare Team on their first day.
Our live-in staff in residences provide welfare support for students out of regular school hours.
All of our staff, including externally hired staff such as coach drivers, must provide references before we hire them and they are fully checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Homestay Accommodation Ages 12-17
Homestay Accommodation is suitable for those students who want to experience life in a British home by staying with a friendly host. You can eat, sleep and breathe the new culture as part of a totally immersive experience.
Your hosts provide a welcoming environment, support your learning and offer an authentic window into their culture. Staying with a host offers a relaxed fun yet intensive approach to language learning. On Wednesdays and Saturdays you will have two full day excursions and once a week you will have dinner with your group. For the remainder of the evenings you will have dinner with your host and spend the evening with them experiencing British family life.
How do we choose our host families?
All of our hosts are carefully selected by our specialist staff and while each host is different they share a genuine desire to welcome international students into their homes and their lives.
The UK has a rich history and is very proud of its cultural diversity. Our homestay providers are a reflection of our society and come from different backgrounds, age groups and socio economic groups. We do not discriminate and welcome all homestays that fit our criteria. Our experienced accommodation team work closely with our hosts to ensure that our junior students are well taken care of.
Liverpool School of English is in the city centre. However all of our hosts live in the suburbs. Students will travel between 20 - 40 minutes on public transport to get to the summer school centres. (A direct journey of one bus or one train)
For safeguarding reasons students aged under 16 need to apply for homestay in pairs.
