Clean up Bligh Park Day Last Friday our students took part in the Schools’ Clean Up Day. This event has taken place in schools since 1992. Schools’ Clean Up Day is a fun and engaging way to teach our students about being responsible for their rubbish and its disposal or ensuring that it is recycled; the impact that rubbish has on the environment and how each and every one of us can make a difference. District Swimming Carnival

Congratulations to all of our students who competed at the District Swimming Carnival on Monday. The team spirt that was displayed by all the students on the day was just wonderful. All our students gave 100 percent in each of their events and displayed great sportsmanship throughout the day. I would also like to thank all the parents who attended the carnival and supported our students.

The following students represented our school: Jessica 2K, Ravinteeno 3C, Joshua 3/4G, Taylor 3/4G, Alex 3/4G, Taylor 4B, Eliza 4B, Riley 4B, Gabrielle 4B, Ryan 5/6P, Bindi 5/6P, Tarnice 5/6P, Cory 5/6P, Ryley 6F, Maddison 6F and Brianna 6F.

Best of luck to the following students who will represent Bligh Public School and our district at the Sydney West PSSA Swimming Carnival on Tuesday 13 March at the Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in Homebush.

We know that you will represent Bligh Park Public School and our district with pride.

The students are:- Bindi 5/6P 50m Butterfly, Ryley 6F 11yrs 50m freestyle and Taylor 3/4G 8yrs 50m Freestyle.

Congratulations to Liam 5/6P, Jimmy 5/6P, Ryley 6F and Tristan 5W on your selection into the 2018 Hawkesbury PSSA Boys Soccer team. This is a wonderful achievement. Go Bligh Park!

Tell Them From Me Survey for students in Year 4,5 &6 I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school.

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 19 March and 13 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form relating to the survey will be sent home with students on Monday. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by 16 March 2018. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents.

Changes to School Exemptions: There has been an update to the attendance policy within the Department of Education. Previously, if you were going on a family holiday during a school term, the principal would grant you an exemption from school. These exemptions would not appear as absences on your child’s school report.

The new policy stipulates that family holidays are no longer an accepted category for exemption from school attendance. Family holidays will now be recorded as ‘leave’ and will appear as days absent from school on your child’s end of semester report.

If you have any questions regarding this, please contact the office.

If you have any concerns, which you would like to discuss please contact the school office to make an appointment. Take care Joan Westerweller Swimming Carnival On Tuesday 13 February, we had the school Swimming Carnival. In butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle I came first but in backstroke I came third. I came first in the medley but I am not sure about the relay. After the relay, mum took me home. Dad said “good job!” At the Swimming Carnival Presentation Assembly, I was very excited when I received the Junior Girl Champion trophy. Yesterday I went to the District Carnival and now I am going to the Regional Swimming Carnival for the 50m freestyle event. Taylor R 3/4G

Start Smart Presentation On 23 February, we learnt about saving and spending money. The presenter that helped us was named Sinead. We learnt that there are three different types of cards you can get at a bank. There are debit, credit and keycards.

We were lucky to be her assistants. Riley was a bank manager and Taylor was a shop owner with an Eftpos machine. Aleesha, Lachlan and Joshua all sold scooters but at different prices. We had to decide whether to buy the cheapest scooter from an online shop but you had to wait three weeks for delivery, the dearest scooter but you got a bonus tin of jellybeans or a scooter that was priced in-between the other two and in stock so you could take it straight home. The class decided to buy the in-between price scooter because you got to spend some money but you were also able to save some money. The motto was 'spend some-save some'.

It was fun way to learn about saving. by Aleesha, Taylor, Riley, Joshua and Lachlan 3/4G

What a great way to start the week! The library is open for Ready Steady Read on Monday mornings 8:30am to 8:55am for all students and families. Bring a book from home or read one off the shelf.

Parents, caregivers and their toddlers are welcome to come along and join in with their child and share in the wonder of good books. Incentive awards will be given to students who regularly attend Ready Steady Read. Bring a friend and get set to ... Ready Steady Read !
