The Benefits of an Online Course
Taking your Kentucky State traffic
school online has many benefits:
• Study at home, at the coffee shop,
anywhere with an Internet connection!
• Work on your course when it’s convenient
for you.
• You get to set the pace.
• Multiple-choice quizzes keep the material
fresh in your mind.

Kentucky Point System
The state uses a point system for Kentucky traffic tickets and
violations to keep track of how well you are driving.
Each traffic violation has points assigned to it, and the more
severe the violation, the more points you will accrue. For example:
• Failure to yield: 3 points
• Following too closely: 4 points
• Passing illegally: 5 points
License Suspension
Your license may be suspended if you accrue:
• 12 points within 2 years
• 7 points within 2 years (if you are under 18)

Traffic School Eligibility
To be eligible for Kentucky traffic school, you must meet the
following requirements:
• You cannot be under suspension.
• You cannot attend traffic school for a conviction carrying
mandatory license suspension.
• You may only attend for minor violations.
• You can only be referred to take traffic school once within a 12-
month period.
• You must be licensed; non-licensed drivers are not eligible to
take traffic school.
• All traffic school referrals must come from the District court where
the violation occurred.

Out-of-State Drivers
If you are an out-of-state driver and you get a ticket in Kentucky, you can
still be referred to take a Kentucky traffic school course, but the citation
will go to the state in which you are licensed. This also applies if you have
a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
