PARENT LEAFLET
We want to share your child’s learning
journey with you. It is a precious time
and we truly want to make these ‘the
best days of their lives’.
Striving for excellence together.
Your help is appreciated and
valued.
What we ask is that you:
Hear your child read even when they
become confident readers.
Comprehension skills and understanding
can always be expanded and developed.
Ensure that your child hands homework
in on time.
Support your child with recalling
important things like phonics and
spellings, timetables and key
mathematical facts and vocabulary.
Be on time– school starts at 5 to 9
Do your best to support your child with
attendance. Make it the best it can be.
Attend parents evening. Share any
concerns with your child’s class teacher.
Be an active participant in the school
community. There are many ways to get
involved and your child will be pleased
that you are joining in.
Support us with our high expectations in
presentation; in work, with uniform and
sports’ kit.
Remember we are here to support your
child in the very best ways possible. We
are also keen to support your journey as a
parent too.
Working in partnership with parents
means that together we can achieve the
best outcomes for pupils.
Research shows that where support at
home is strong children do better in
school.
Love learning, enjoy life
and care for one another
LOVE - LIGHT - ALL

Communication We aim to make communication with parents the very
best it can be. We continually review the methods we
use and act upon new ideas.
Communication is at its best when partnership with
parents is strong and there is a good understanding
between teachers and parents.
We currently use Hot Gossip as a means of
communicating what’s happening on a weekly basis
and spend time each week trying to ensure that it
covers most of the important things. It is essential that
as a parent you read it and make a note of key events
and dates. It will be sent by email unless a specific
hard copy is requested.
The website is also used as a communication tool and
newsletters, key dates and homework are posted each
week.
An events diary is sent out at the start of the year and
although some of the dates may alter slightly it gives
an indication of the planned events for the year.
Staff are available most days for a quick chat but if a
more detailed discussion is needed we ask that you
make an appointment at a convenient time for yourself
and the teacher.
Parents’ Evenings and Reports In the Autumn and Spring Term we offer an
evening for parents to discuss their child with the
class teacher. It is a 10 minute appointment and
time is spent talking about learning and progress.
They are key dates in the year and it is essential
that every parent attends.
At the end of the summer term a comprehensive
report is written and sent home to parents. It
provides key information about each child. An
evening is set aside for invited parents so that any
issues can be addressed together.
Parents’ Forum
A time to meet is set aside each half term to
discuss a range of topics. The meetings are held
in school at 3-4pm on a Thursday. We ask for
class representatives at the start of each year but
all parents are welcome to attend. Look out for
information on Hot Gossip.
Our commitment
We will maintain consistency with our expectations; those for
behaviour, homework, attendance and presentation.
Planners
We provide a planner for each child. They are used slightly
differently in each class which reflects the different ages and
stages of the pupils. In Yellow and Green Class it is used to
record reading at home and as a home communication diary
and parents generally fill it in. As the children get older they are
able to take responsibility for recording their own reading but
checks from home are necessary to ensure that children are
completing books and enjoying the texts. Notes about spelling
and homework are also added.
Rewards and merits
Each child will be provided with a passport and will work
towards gaining merits. Bronze, silver and gold badges will be
awarded on the way to the STAR award which is given on
completion of the passport. We encourage parents to share in
their child’s success.
