First Chapter Meeting – October 5, 2017

Delta Chapter’s first meeting of the year featured

Valen Cayetano, Director of

Assessments for the DC Public

Schools. The meeting took place Thursday,

October 5, 2017 at 5:30 P.M., in the Fellowship

Hall of Peoples Congregational United Church of

Christ. A wonderful

dinner was prepared

by Mr. Joseph Hackett,

Caterer, for

approximately 30

members and guests.

Prior to the dinner

buffet, Jacqueline

Fletcher, Nu State

membership

chairperson and Gloria

Henderson, Delta

Chapter membership

chairperson, led the initiation ceremony for

Kristen Johnson, who was unable to be initiated in

May 2017 at the Nu State Convention due to

illness. Vice President Carolyn Kornegay,

Corresponding Secretary Sandra Howell, and

Kimberly Springle assisted with the ceremony.

Special appreciation was extended to Carolyn

Kornegay, Educational Excellence Chairperson

and Cynthia Prather, EEC member, for taking the

lead in the preparation and presentation of this

program. Special thanks to all of the Nu State

Chapters for their attendance at our program. Nu

State President, Beverly Battle, was present along

with Tanya Cochran, who took photographs of the

activities of the evening. Beta and Alpha Chapters

were also in attendance. Ms. Cayetano presented

factors affecting the achievement gap. Many

schools are working hard to lessen the widening

gap in the overall performance of students in

District of Columbia.
