• Authority is inner confidence – a trust in your skills and abilities.
• Think – I Can Do It… I Deserve Success. This attitude radiates outward and is positive.
• Assertiveness is a key skill – be active, direct and honest.
• Always communicate an impression of self respect and respect for others.
• Being assertive means that you want your wants, needs and rights to be equal to others (including those of high authority)

Situational Leadership – the basics
Simply put, Situational Leadership is choosing the correct response to a situation after taking account of the complexity of a task and the capability & experience of the individual.

• Developing high competence & showing high commitment encourages trust.
• Trust enables bosses to delegate more complex tasks without being controlling or directive.
• Good leaders understand that following is a choice.

Taking action
• Spend time developing a clear set of goals you want to achieve.
• Once clear about that, make a list of the people you need, to influence, to support you, who can give you sound advice.
• Now develop a list of no more than 4 strategies that will move you towards your goals
• Write it all down
• Keep your eyes open for opportunities to take control of situations, projects and tasks
• Develop you ‘follower’ skills
