Principal’s Message Parents:
As I sit down to write this letter, I look out over a
lawn that is still covered in snow. I guess it just goes
to show that Mother Nature is in control and will
bring on spring in her own due time. But, we can
dream of warmer days ahead as we move into our up-
coming activities. I would like to compliment the stu-
dents and staff for the way they have handled the mul-
tiple missed days and frequent disruptions. As I am
certain the worst of the weather is behind us, our staff
remains committed to ensuring continued success for
our students.
Our Spring SOL testing begins the week of March
17-20, and all of our students enrolled in English 11
will be administered the English SOL test. Passing
this test is a requirement in order to get a diploma so
our students want to be well rested and in attendance
during this time.
For seniors, our annual Reality Store activity is
planned for April 9th from 9 AM to 1 PM. Spring
break is the week of April 14-18.
As you look over the rest of this newsletter, please
be sure to note the many activities our students are
engaged in and try to attend some of them.
Here’s looking to a great Spring and a phenome-
nal last few months of the year!
Sincerely,
Bill Oblas

Counseling News
WelcomeWelcomeWelcomeWelcome
Dear Parents and Students:
The month of March will be a very busy and exciting time. The counse-
lors will be working individually with students to help finalize their
schedule for the 2014-2015 school year. Information from the semester
report card, discussion with parents, and teacher presentations should all
influence the student’s decision making process regarding their courses
for next year.
Please remember that AP and SOL tests are around the corner! We ask
that families express the importance of these exams to their students.
By the end of February each senior should have received the 2014
Scholarship and Financial Aid Handbook. If you have a senior, please
look over the handbook with them. All County wide scholarships can be
found online at http://www.lcps.org/page/1914
Finally, visit our website to get more information about scholarships,
SAT registration, Monroe Technology Center, and other counseling re-
lated information.

Spring is a great time to visit college campuses!
There are many college campus Open Houses in the spring. Check out the college website under Admissions and look for the “visit schedule” to reg-ister. Your spring break is an excellent time to visit campus while they are in session. Make an ap-pointment to see a professor or director in an area you are interested in. For example, if you want to be a teacher, take time to speak with the Director of Elementary or Secondary Education. Have you been working on your resume? Use Family Connection to create and/or update a list of activities, clubs, volunteerism, etc. See Mr. West in the career center for help on your resume’. Now is a good time to register for an SAT or ACT. Be sure to take the ACT with writing. More and more colleges accept the ACT.
Summer Programs
Summer programs provide students
with a wide range of experience and
serve as great resume builders for col-
lege applications. Search online for
summer programs offered by colleges.

Even though the Student Council was bombarded with snow, ice, and many days off, the Stu-dent Council has been hard at work this February! Between ordering and selling our Match-maker Fundraiser forms, contin-uing to sell our 60th Anniversary pinnies, and planning the Senior Hand-Print Wall, the officers sure were busy!
The Annual Matchmaker Fundraiser was a great success! Many students completed a questionnaire which then paired them up with their “ideal per-
fect match”. This was all in fun for Valentine’s Day, which also became another fun snow day! Thank you to everyone who par-ticipated in our fundraiser!
Sixtieth Anniversary pinnies
are still available for sale at a mere $25! These pinnies are of high-quality and versatile for
every sport season. They can be worn from football through bas-ketball through baseball season-and beyond! See your nearest SCA officer for yours.
The SCA is in the pro-cess of planning the Senior Handprint Wall. We are current-ly looking at colors that can be customized to each senior’s fu-ture plans. More information to follow.
As always, the Student Coun-cil Association thanks you for your overwhelming support throughout all of our endeavors.

· PEER is a student support group
made up of fourteen (14) LCHS
Junior’s and Senior’s that are se-
lected through an application pro-
cess which includes teacher recom-
mendations.
· The goal of the PEER program is
to create and foster a friendlier en-
vironment for all students at
LCHS.
· Last year the PEER group partici-
pated in Step Up Loudoun and
placed 3rd while also receiving the
Most Outstanding Project award
for their Depression Awareness
Week. This year their theme is
Four Pillars.
· PEER holds open lunch every “A”
day of the week where students
play games while getting to know
each other. The group welcomes
any donations of games to help
support this activity.
LCHS PTSA February 10, 2014 Meeting Highlights
OTHER EVENTS
& INFORMATION
The All Night Grad Party
committee held their first
meeting. Watch for more
details on upcoming fund-
raisers to support this
event.
Volunteers are being
sought for the Freshman
Picnic that is held each
year on the Friday before
school starts. LCHS will be hosting Hoops
4 Hope this year. The
event is tentatively sched-
uled for March 19th.
The next PTSA meeting is
scheduled for Monday
March 17th at 7:00 PM in
· The guidance department has port-
folios on each of the fourteen (14)
students that list their hobbies, ac-
tivities, etc. These portfolios are
available for students to review to
find members with similar inter-
ests. The goal being to support the
development of new friendships
that help students feel more com-
fortable at LCHS.
· PEER also provides one-on-one
confidential counseling.
· PEER is self-financed and is ask-
ing for any assistance available to
help them continue to strengthen
the program. With enough sup-
port, they would like to expand the
program so that it can be offered in
other high schools and middle
schools in the county. There were
recommendations from the meeting
attendees to look into applying for
grants from Wegman’s and Target
as a place to start.
· SCA has a current budget of $8,000. Some of this is
used for painting the senior wall, teacher’s gifts, and
prizes for spirit week. It was suggested that the SCA
consider using some of their budge to assist with grant
requests from student clubs such as PEER.
