Set Induction:a. Show the picture of Ben and Bip. (Appendix 1)b. Pupils talk about the picture. (Prompt pupils by asking questions)c. Repeat for pictures 2 to 7. (Appendix 1)

Step 1:a. Introduce the phoneme /b/ by showing the action.

Put your hands up to demonstrate the balloon bursting.c. Demonstrate how to sound it out:

When you make the sound /b/, your lips go together and thenopen when you say /b/.

d. Pupils do the action and say /b/, /b/, /b/.e. Pupils say /b/ is for ‘b’.

Step 2:a. Pre-teach vocabulary. (Appendix 3)

Show the picture of Ben and say [Ben]. Say aloud /b/, /b/, ’Ben’. Pupils repeat.

b. Follow the same procedure for the other words:Bip, ball, blow, bubbles, Blue Bird, beak

d. Recite the poem. (Appendix 2)e. Pupils repeat.

Step d:Recite line by line andrefer to the pictures.

Ask pupils to observe you. Do it a few timesto different groups.

f. Show Picture 1 and get pupils to talk about the picture. (Appendix 1).g. Show the sentence/phrase strips and read them aloud. (Appendix 3)

h. Pupils repeat each sentence/phrase twice.

Consolidation:a. Recite the poem again.
