A message from our Principal… Good afternoon everyone! This week hasn’t been my most memorable at Lavington Public I must admit. There’s been some student behaviour that hasn’t been at the standard we expect of Lavington students. As a result, some formal cautions were sent home to some parents, with a suspension pending. At all times, we expect all of our school community members to act in a safe manner, demonstrate respect for each other and their property as well as taking responsibility for our own actions. Our student leaders deliver our school pledge each morning. It is a great way to start our day and acts as a reminder to what we at Lavington Public School value. Just a reminder of what our pledge is:

Today is a new day.

I will act in a safe and healthy way;

I will respect the rights of others;

I will treat all property with respect; and,

I will take responsibility for my learning and behaviour.

Today I will be the best that I can be

at Lavington Public School. Something else, During our first 2 break times at school, students are encouraged to sit and eat lunch together in their supervised locations. It allows time for lunch orders to arrive and be distributed, as well as ensuring students eat the lunch their parents have packed them. Another added bonus is monitoring the amount of rubbish left in the eating areas. If your children require food from the Canteen, can you please ensure they complete a lunch order before school commences.

See you soon! Brett.

LIBRARY NEWS – BOOK WEEK Don’t forget our annual Book Parade is being held on Wednesday 6 September. Children and teachers are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character or favourite book and join in the fun of the parade in front of family and friends. The theme for this year is:

‘Escape to Everywhere’

Also on this day we will be having a Book Fair where students, teachers, parents and friends can purchase new books, posters, pens and pencils at very reasonable prices.

All commission raised from the Book Fair goes back to the Library and used to purchase more books and resources for the students and teachers at Lavington PS. Students will view the Book Fair next week (week 7) and write ‘wish lists’ to bring home during weeks 7 and 8.

Hope you have thought of a costume idea and if you have the related book to carry as you parade that would be fantastic.

THE NEXT PAYMENT FOR YEARS 5 & 6 AND YEARS 3 & 4 MAJOR EXCURIONS IS DUE NEXT WEEK!

PEER SUPPORT This week students discussed some strategies they might use in challenging situations. Students took on a challenge that required them to persevere i.e. doing the best they could at a task using a range of strategies. They discovered that some situations remain challenging even after using many strategies to work them through. Being resilient means accepting this and showing courage in moving forward.

MEDICATIONS AT SCHOOL From time to time, parents require school staff to administer medication to their child due to illness. When this situation occurs, a parent is required to complete necessary paperwork in accordance with Department of Education policy. School office staff can assist parents in this regard. Any medication that needs to be administered should be in its original packaging stating the dosage and storage requirements. Medications should never be sent to school with children. CHANGE OF CONTACT DETAILS It is important for the school to have up-to-date information in case of illness or medical emergency. Please advise the school office if you have changed address or contact phone details as soon as possible, either by a note sent with your child or by phoning the school office. Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.

Our Lavington PS Breakfast Club operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Children are always welcome to come along to the Breakfast Club room in the Admin Block from 8:30am on these mornings and have some cereal, toast and a drink to start their school day. Of course this is also a great chance for socialising and catching up with friends before the school day starts. Any donations of Milo, jam, Vegemite, honey or margarine are always accepted and can be left at the office. Thank you. LAVI PHOTO SQUAD Our group have been busy photographing the wonders of nature lately and we wanted to share this fantastic photo taken by Isaac Felder in Class 3S.

RIVERINA HOCKEY Our representative Hockey players are off to Wyong next week to compete at the NSWPSSA Boys Championships. Lavington PS is well represented in this Riverina team. Ethan Semple, Deisel Lavis and Riley Williams will be donning the black and white playing kit of Riverina and battling against the best players and teams from all over the State. Good luck to our boys and the team! RIVERINA BOYS FOOTBALL (SOCCER) Kane O’Regan thoroughly enjoyed participating at the NSW Soccer Championships in Inverell last week. Not only did he relish wearing shorts and t-shirts up in the North of the state, he enjoyed all the action on the pitch. The standard of young school aged soccer players was outstanding, with Kane certainly not out of his depth. The Riverina boys finished in a commendable 11th position. Well done Kane! SCHOOL SPORT AUSTRALIA AFL CHAMPIONSHIPS Jesse Hart and the NSW AFL boys had great championships up in Darwin. Playing footy in sweltering conditions of 33C wasn’t easy for any of the players. Jesse loved the experience and gained a lot of confidence from playing at such a high level. The NSW boys defeated ACT, NT and TAS but went down to QLD in a tight match and were beaten quite easily by SA. These results positioned the team in 5th place overall. Our neighbours from down south, not surprisingly took out the gold medal. (It may have been their team ice vests that got them over the line!) Well done to Jess and the NSW boys. FINAL PSSA SPORT TOMORROW To all our boys and girls involved in Winter PSSA sport, we hope you have enjoyed the season. A couple of wash outs haven’t deterred the player’s enthusiasm. The weather is looking promising for tomorrow as our soccer players get to wear their new playing shirts for the first time. Don’t forget to bring your money in for the bus kids! Our Junior and Senior footy teams both have the bye this week. This is an unfortunate way to finish the season, but we will have a final training session together during sport time tomorrow. All our new Netball dresses, AFL jumpers and Soccer shirts need to be returned to the team coaches by the end of next week.

FATHER’S DAY STALL The P & C will be holding a Father’s Day stall in the school hall on Wednesday 30 August. All students will be given the chance

during the morning to purchase a gift. Gifts will be priced between $2 and $10. There will also be generic men’s gifts and gifts for Grandfathers available. Volunteers are needed to assist with set up on Tuesday afternoon from 1:00 – 3:00pm as well as manning the stall on Wednesday between 9:00am and 12noon. If you can help out at either of these times, please call Kathy Barnes on 0427 263 097. Thank you! LOOSE CHANGE FUNDRAISER Although not much mention has been made of this fundraiser for a while, we would like to let everyone know that it is still ongoing. Children can place any spare, loose change in the jars in their classrooms.

BUNNINGS ALBURY will be holding a FREE Father’s Day Family Night next Thursday 31 August from 6:00 – 8:00pm. What we have been learning in 2B….

PAST AND PRESENT

The games from the past are made for

more than one person. They do not have

screens. Games like snakes and ladders, hide

and seek, marbles, jacks, eye spy and tiggy and

many more. They also teach you perseverance

and how to share. I’ve learnt that x-box games

and i-pad games do not teach kids how to

make contact with other people. They also cost

more money so you cannot buy other things

that could be really useful.
