A message from our Principal… Good afternoon everyone!

This week we celebrated NAIDOC Day. It was a brilliant day with students participating in many activities. These groups included

activities on shelter making, story time, river rock painting and creating artwork – all of which were led by our Indigenous students. They had a fantastic time! A big thank you to our special guests who came along and Mrs Berndt, Mrs Nesire, Miss Burns, Mrs Clarke and Mr Calabria for their efforts in coordinating the day. It was a massive success! I have been meeting and receiving communication from a number of parents over the last few weeks. While I never have a problem meeting with parents at any time, can you please ensure your first point of contact is our classroom teachers. They will often have a more direct pathway to get the answers or information you are seeking. I will be out of the school Thursday and Friday this week at the Riverina Principals Conference. I do limit the amount of time I am out of the school to avoid disruptions, but I am looking forward to working with my Principal colleagues for the two days. I will be back Monday morning, firing on all cylinders.

See you soon! Brett

EISTEDDFOD / LIBRARY EXCURSION Last Friday LPS Infants and Primary choir competed at the Albury Eisteddfod. The Infants choir was first up, performing two songs. They looked stunning on the stage in uniform, showing how well they can behave and perform. They successfully performed the rounds in the song ‘Wake Up’ and had a

perfect rendition of ‘Bravo’. They were very proud of their performance and the score of 89 earning them third place. The Primary Choir performed ‘Naughty’ by Tim Minchin and ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from the hit movie, Moana. They performed their first song well but got a bit excited and lost their timing for their performance of ‘Naughty’. Whilst disappointed with their efforts, they have not been discouraged, having the opportunity to perform at tomorrow’s assembly.

NAIDOC DAY PUBLIC SPEAKING Last week our school was represented at James Fallon HS in the 2017 NAIDOC Public Speaking competition. Mrs Berndt commented that our team performed very well and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. All students were presented with a Participation Certificate. Well done! PARENTING YOUR PRETEEN There is still time for parents of Years 5 and 6 students to advise if they intend coming to a session by our School Counsellor/Psychologist, Evie Bradley. It will be held at 2:00pm next Thursday, 24 August. The session is designed to give parents tips and information to guide them through these sometimes tricky years. Although the RSVP was due back this week, they will still be accepted until Tuesday next week. CIRCUS QUIRKUS Last Thursday, several LPS students attended a performance of Circus Quirkus. Everyone enjoyed the performances which included acrobatics, juggling, dancing and hula hoops. “I liked Weedle when he climbed on the tight rope in a skirt” -Seth - Class Burns. Special thanks to the Albury Rotary Club for providing this great experience.

RIVERINA ATHLETICS Good luck to the following students who are members of the Albury PSSA team at the upcoming Riverina PSSA Athletics Carnival. Jett Maloney, Ellie Lyons, Cruz Teesdale, Ella Semple, Shari Bradshaw and Ethan Semple will no doubt do their families, our school and the Albury District proud at the carnival on Friday, 1 September. RIVERINA SPORTS As noted in previous newsletters, we have had plenty of representation when it comes to Riverina sporting teams. Well, it is now the teachers turn to head off as team managers to state carnivals. We would like to wish Miss

Smith (Girls Football – Soccer) and Miss Burns (Rugby Union) all the best at their carnivals. No pressure, but remember Mr Hallandale returned recently from his AFL carnival with the gold medal! Enjoy the experience Miss Smith and Miss Burns! TRENT BARRETT SHIELD

Last week’s Trent Barrett Shield competition for boys and girls in Years 3 and 4 was a big hit. To some students, it was their first time, playing rugby league (Boys) and league tag (Girls). Plenty of tries were scored,

tackles laid, tags grabbed and most importantly smiles on faces, occurred over the course of the day. A big thank you to Junior Manuaifua who coached and managed our boy’s teams. Junior gave up his time before the gala day to train the boys at lunchtimes. Thanks also to the parents who assisted the teams on the day and supported all our boys and girls.

A reminder to everyone to keep collecting the Woolworths Earn & Learn stickers for our school. Sheets and/or stickers can be returned to the special box

located in the office foyer. This redemption program gives our school the chance to earn amazing school resources and equipment. The program will run through until Tuesday 19 September.
