Twenty years ago at the Lima Mall Fun Fair, my booth

for Dianna's and Mike Moore's booth for his business

were side by side. During that weekend we talked for

hours about our mutual interest in UFO's. We continuedto run into each other at Chamber of Commerce functions

and about a year later decided to put an ad in the Lima

News to hold a meeting at the Milano Cafe. WILO

TV called me and said they would like to cover the

beginning of our meeting. They interviewed Mike & I

for the 6 o'clock news, but Jeff Fitzgerald's last words

were about "little green men".

John Timmerman learned of our meetings from a friend

and became a member. We then became associated withCUFOS out of Chicago. We met for a couple years at

Milano Cafe and then at the American Mall's Community

Room. John suggested we call ourselves LAURA (Lima

Area Research Associates).

One year we sponsored a booth at the Allen County Fair

and the word about our group spread. Teleconferences

with renowned ufologists give us detailed insight into

different aspects of the subject. We've heard many

testimonials from people in our community regarding

sightings, abductions, etc. An amber glass piece was passed around that the owner said was from a space craft

that imploded which NASA tested and said was glass that adhered to metal, which we did not have the capacity

to make at that time. An implant was shown to us that looked like a small receiver that was taken out a

woman's nose. Aerial views of Ohio crop circles continues to fascinate. Many speakers on various topics,

including programs from our members, have enlightened our group. Current videos, books, & MUFON

newsletters have kept LAURA up-to-date and active.

When the American Mall closed, we found a new home at Market Street Presbyterian Church and LAURA

continues to meet every 3rd Wednesday from 6:30-9:00pm.Dianna Baughman

Final copies are to be forwarded to Helena for distribution by email and postal mailing. Articles can relate to

items occurring in July, Aug. and early Sept.

Next club meeting is Wed, Aug. 18, 2010 at 7:00 pm at the Mkt. St. Presbyterian Church.

ASHLAND, OHIO CONFERENCE

I attended the Mufon of Ohio spring conference in Ashland Ohio on May 15 th. It was well attended with

approximately 60 people in attendance. The speakers were Ted Phillips, Stan Gordon, and John Ventre.

Ted is an expert in which physical evidence was left behind from a UFO encounter.He got his start in the 1960s working with the late J. Allen Hynek and has investigated thousands of physical

trace cases.

Ted described his investigations to an undisclosed location in Missouri he calls Marley Woods.There has been many sighting of orbs and strange lights at this remote location. The area is pasture and densewoods and there have been up to 4 cattle killed in one night by an unknown source. There also have been

strange sightings of a 4 legged white creature. He compared this location to the Utah Skin Walker Ranch.

Stan Gordon is a UFO investigator from Pennsylvania. He became interested in the UFO phenomenon when hewas given an AM radio in the 1960s. He started listening to talk radio and became interested in UFOs this

way. There was a wave of sightings of UFOs and Bigfoot in 1973 and he was very involved. From this, he

spear-headed a quick response team of investigators .They created a call center and had 2 phone lines that weremanned 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and were very busy. He has since become an expert on the Kecksburg

, Pa. case and continues to investigate cases in Pennsylvania.

John Ventre was the 3rd

speaker and discussed the subject of the apocalypse discussing 2012 and the Mayan

calendar. He talked about the possibility of a meteor collision with the earth and the near misses we have had.He also talked about the Millenium Seed Bank Project and claimed that this world project was given the

directive to be complete by 2012.

For John P. Timmerman, talking about unidentified flying objects is a daily occurrence. The

Lima native began his study of UFOs before the town of Roswell, New Mexico became

famous for a baffling experience. He has interviewed many about their own experiences with

UFOs, yet there is one major hole in his life experience.

"I have never seen what I would like to experience," admitted Timmerman. "In the rest of my

life, I have spoken to, talked to, talked with thousands and thousands and thousands and

thousands of real people who are part of the program I put together for people to come to meand tell me of their experiences. And they did."

Now, at the age of 87, Timmerman's passion is to share what he has learned and to get others

to think about the unknown.

He noted, "I want to make sure that the people who really want to know will realize the

realities of their lifetime and study the subjects, the planets and the sky around us, because

we're dealing with something extremely interesting. To ignore it would make us all fools."

According to Timmerman, it was 1946 when his interest in astronomy collided with reports of

"flying saucers" in Washington. "I wrote a letter to three professors in a college nearby and

asked them if I could be of help in finding stories," he remembered. "They sent a nice letter

back to Lima and told me I was welcome to try."

Timmerman was asked to join the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies as an investigator

and board member. He jumped at the chance.

"This was an opportunity for me to work with a man that I thought was highly intelligent and deeply interested in what he was

assigned to do by the United States Air Force. All the calls and experiences he had during that time were something well beyond what

he could handle by himself," stated Timmerman.

After all the interviews he has conducted and all the investigations he has undertaken, Timmerman remains convinced that there is

more in the universe than most people realize. While some sightings turn out to be easily explainable, others are not.

"I can't explain all these things," he shrugged. "I just think we should study the things around us and prepare to protect our planet

from maybe a big rock coming alongside and tearing us up. That's astronomy. So instead of some of the other things we waste our

time on, we should make sure we have a clear understanding of reality on our planet."

Timmerman's stories raise more questions than provide answers. He asserts that the government has covered up information and

changed facts in official reports. He claimed that Hynek discovered the discrepancies and spoke out against Project Blue Book - the

project with which his name had become forever linked.

Some of the stories that Timmerman has heard firsthand can boggle the mind. He believes there is much that mankind does not know

or understand, but does not offer much in the way of speculation. Aware that his mind has begun to weaken, he has become content to

raise questions and to urge people to wonder about the unknown.

He said, "We should be reconsidering our belief in everything. We should pay attention to what we don't know now."

Timmerman has spoken out about UFOs perhaps as much as people have spoken to him on the topic. His work with the Center for

UFO Studies has carried over to local groups like the Lima Area UFO Research Associates (LAURA). Although his mind works

more slowly, his steady voice still resonates strongly with a charge to look beyond what is already known. At an advanced age,

Timmerman still strives to teach people about the unknown.

"I'm glad that I have taken a study of the unknown," he declared. "My wife wants me to stay how and work in the garden! But I want

to be informative and do things to increase people's knowledge about the world in which they live."

SHANGHAI - An unidentified flying object (UFO) disrupted air traffic over Zhejiang's provincial capitalHangzhou late on Wednesday, the municipal government said on Thursday.

Xiaoshan Airport was closed after the UFO was detected at around 9 pm, and some flights were rerouted to airports in the

cities of Ningbo and Wuxi , said an airport spokesman, who declined to be named.

The airport had resumed operations, and more details will be released after an investigation, he said.

A source with knowledge of the matter, however, told China Daily

on Thursday that authorities had learned what the UFO was after an

investigation. But it was not the proper time to publicly disclose

the information because there was a military connection, he said,adding that an official explanation is expected to be given on

Friday. Inbound flights were diverted to the nearby airports in

Zhejiang province's Ningbo and Jiangsu province's Wuxi.

Outbound flights were delayed for three to four hours. A staff

member at the airport's information desk said the airport had "no

idea" how many flights were affected by the closure.

Dola, Ohio -- A friend and I were having a garage sale, but nobody was showing up. So we

just started taking pictures. My friend looked across my pond, took a picture, looked at the

picture, then up at the sky. She saw the UFO, then pointed to show me, but it was gone.We didnt know what it was when we first saw it. We couldnt hear it and havent seen it

since. We were at my house, Dola, Ohio. During the sighting she looked surprised. After it

I was shocked, and we just kind of sat there, looking around the sky to see if we saw it. We

lost sight of it because my friend looked at me to show me where it was at, looked up and it

was gone.
