“Some girls on the first day ... were really, really hesitant. Now, those same girls are the ones raising their hands and saying, ‘Can I lead? Can I be the next leader?’” Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington’s Latina Engagement Program works to equalize access to a powerful leadership model for girls who don’t have these resources available otherwise. Through enriching leadership and learning opportunities, girls develop a strong sense of self, seek challenges, display positive values, form and maintain healthy relationships, and identify and solve problems in their community. “This program has provided us with quality after-school and summer programming, has engaged our girls fully, and exposed them to new opportunities to help them reach their most full potential,” says Jaclyn Sarna with Hacienda CDC. “The Latina Engagement team understands the experiences of our girls and their families and is responsive and flexible.” LATINA ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM GSOSW’s Puentes (meaning Bridges) Summer Program offers a culturally responsive, high-quality introduction to Girl Scouting for Latina girls in partnership with community-based organizations and Migrant Education programs offered at school districts throughout the region. “Some girls on the first day ... were really, really hesitant.

Now, those same girls are the ones raising their hands

and saying, ‘Can I lead? Can I be the next leader?’”

Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington’s Latina Engagement Program works to equalize access to a powerful leadership model for girls who don’t have these resources available otherwise. “The Latina Engagement team understands the experiences of our girls and their families and is responsive and flexible.”

LATINA ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM

GSOSW’s Puentes (meaning Bridges) Summer Program offers a culturally responsive, high-quality introduction to Girl Scouting for Latina girls in partnership with community-based organizations and Migrant Education programs offered at school districts throughout the region. Activities leaders guide girls through STEM, healthy living, and arts learning experiences.

The Puentes Summer Program served 944 Girl Scouts at 21 sites in 2018.
