• All relocating Rotarians are encouraged to seek out clubs in their new location. Because each Rotary club is self-governing, therefore, membership is not by default transferable.

• Rotary membership is by invitation only and at the discretion of the local Rotary club. Notified clubs are under no obligation to consider any person for membership.

• Upon your acceptance for membership in a new club, presumably you should resign your membership in your former club, also advisable to continue your use of the former membership number so that your membership history could be retained.

• Club president and honorary secretary would assist a transferring member, to process the Membership Data Form, use the member’s existing membership identification number to retain membership history and avoid duplicate records.

Rtn Stacy Ho had a pleasant duty to introduce our Speaker, Rtn Joseph Tse, of his vocational talk regarding “Education - Is it "Hard" or "Heart" ?” Rtn Joseph was educated in the UCLA as an economic undergraduate in 1982, took his postgraduate diploma of education (HKU) when teaching in the Delia International School. Completing his MEd from HKU in 1994. Rtn Joseph made his career choice in education as he was keen to share his ideas with the young people. Rtn Joseph was also keen on travelling and had his honeymoon in Hawaii, who continued to travel widely for academic exchanges and student programs in the Year 2000s. In fact, there were 500 high schools in Hong Kong, when each school was endowed with their own principals, and two vice principals. Rtn Joseph did make to his rank in the Holy Carpenter Secondary School among his counterparts of 1,000 vice principals in Hong Kong.

• Vision - according to Rtn Joseph, the Principal – Mr Alan Chow of the Holy Carpenter Secondary School had his vision that education could make a difference on our future society as the human capitals could determine the nation or the city's destiny.

• Mission - Rtn Joseph shared the mission of the Holy Carpenter Secondary School with us that they

would attempt to cultivate student lives by creating a supportive, harmonious and caring school environment.

That the School Management Committee was the governing body and Rtn Joseph's work in the school was about both the school development (such as the new curriculum from the 3-3-4 Diploma of Secondary System) and the school based management (such as the finance etc). Rtn Joseph shared two points to describe the uniqueness of the school's mission (when we joked that they were one of the unusual academies in Hong Kong).

• To pick the student input in their DSE year-one, that the school did accept the new immigrants, the school drop outs or even repeaters, that their students might have a more mature age.

• To pick the financial background in their DSE year-one, that more than half of them were under Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA scheme), or receiving full or half subsidy in their school fees.

Therefore, the Rotary's adopt a school program was well taken by the Holy Carpenter Secondary School. Rtn Joseph was also grateful to Rtn William Leung's donation of his piano to the school. Rtn Nelson thanked the speaker in our usual Rotary manners. The next week programme would be : Dennis of Discover Blue

International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians (IFFR) Meeting Local Rotarians & Building Friendship A group of 58 Flying Rotarians Pilots of International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians www.iffr.org and their spouse passed by Hong Kong after RI Convention and held a gathering dinner on May 20. They were led by Peter More the Past World President (2010-2012) and PP Michael Graves the World President (2012-2014). They are Rotarians from 10 countries including USA, Scotland, Belgium, France and the Netherlands. Coordinating the reception to the international visiting Rotarians, Pres. Eric Chin of our Club led 2 members, PE Nancy and Uncle John, together with Eric’s spouse Christine, and arranged Pres. Lily Fenn of RC Happy Valley (a Helicopter Pilot) and invited Commodore PP Douglas Hia of Yacht Club Rotarian with 3 members to join the dinner to create a good opportunity to build up friendship with the visiting flying rotarians. PP Peter More extended his appreciation to the Local Rotarians who offered very kind hospitality being extended to some of our IFFR members. Some took them shopping and another one brought them to the Lantau Island to see the big Buddha. A number of the IFFR members also attended local Rotary meetings. What a wonderful fellowship shared with the visiting IFFR members! Below is the appreciation remarked by the 2012-2014 World President of IFFR Michael Graves to our Club Pres. Eric: “The HK Rotarian leaders attending our annual farewell banquet made this one of the most memorable gatherings in decades. Your presence and leadership were both much appreciated. Thanks for sharing the photo file. Let us please maintain our new connection.”
