Last Day of School

The last day of school for all Holdrege Public School students is Thursday, May 16. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 p.m. and there will be no lunch served that day. Buses will run accordingly. Final report cards will be distributed that day, but if your child has any outstanding fines for library books or has a negative meal account balance, the report card will be held until those are paid.

Lost and Found

We have a large amount of clothing and lunch bags left in the lost and found. Please remember that any item that is not claimed by the end of the year will be donated. If you are missing jackets, coats, hats, snow pants, boots, or lunch bags, please be sure to check the lost and found boxes at your child’s school before the end of the school year.

Summer School

This year we are again doing something different for Summer School. Students will be qualifying based on need, progress, and referrals from teachers. Also, we are asking those students who are referred and decide to participate in Summer School attend for at least 12 out of the 14 days possible to attend for free. If your child qualifies you will be receiving a letter next week. Summer School dates are May 20 through June 7. If you have further questions, please let Mrs. Porter know.

Activities on the Last Day of School

On the last day of school, the students will do fun grade-level activities in the rooms and miniature golf and bounce houses in the gym. There won't be outdoor parent-spectator type activities. .

Illness

Abbie Soneson, our school nurse, reminds all parents that if your child has a fever of 100 or above, flu-like symptoms, vomiting, or diarrhea, he/she needs to stay home from school. Also, if your child has a fever, it needs to be normal without taking Tylenol or ibuprofen (Motrin) for 24 hours before coming back to school. Please consult your Student-Parent Handbook for more detailed information about illnesses and attending school.

School Pictures for 2019

Elementary student pictures will be taken on September 24 and 25 at Holdrege Elementary. Order forms will be sent home several weeks prior to picture day. Holdrege Public Schools be using Studio B Photography which is the same company as last year.

PTO Reminder

The Elementary PTO reminds all families to save Box Tops and SunMart receipts over the summer. The money raised from collecting these help with purchasing school supplies not covered by the regular budget, activities such as the annual elementary field day snacks, and to purchase a book for each elementary child twice a year. Back to School Night and 2019-20 Information

The first day of school for the 2019-20 school year is Thursday, August 15. Back to School Night for will be held Tuesday, August 13 at Holdrege Elementary School from 5:00-7:15 PM. The elementary school address is 1700 Broadway. It is a time for families to familiarize themselves with the building, classrooms, and school routines. The classrooms will be open for you to visit and meet the teachers, so please plan to attend.

The August 2019 newsletter will be mailed to each elementary student household at the beginning of August. This newsletter will have important information about back to school night, the start of school, general school information, and free and reduced meal information and application, so if you have had a change of address, please contact your child’s school office. If your household information changes over the summer, please contact the Holdrege Public Schools Central Office at 995-8663 so changes can be made and our records are current for this important mailing. A school supply list for each grade will be distributed at the end of the school year and will also be posted on the school website www.dusters.org.

Enfermedad

Summer Office Hours

The elementary school office will be open until the end of May and with limited hours through summer school. We will close for the summer and reopen on August 1st. If you have a change in your household address or phone number, please stop by the Central Office 505 14th Ave. or call them at 995-8663 at any time during the summer. We encourage you to drop off immunization and physical forms (for kindergarten students and transfers from out of state), deposit money in meal accounts, or purchase headphones in the weeks before school starts.

Nebraska State Testing

Our 3rd and 4th grade elementary students finished their Nebraska State testing (NSCAS) in April. All 3rd and 4th grade students took the reading and math test, which will be scored against all Nebraska 3rd and 4th graders. Those results will be available in the Fall of 2019.

Treats at School

If you send treats to school with your child for a birthday or a class party, please be sure that they are already cut or portioned and ready to serve. We have very limited refrigerator/freezer space and are usually unable to refrigerate or freeze treats. Please keep this in mind when planning your child’s treats.

Invitations at School

In order to distribute birthday or other invitations to classmates at school, a student must have one for each student his/her entire class. The only exception to this is that a student may choose to only invite all classmates of the same sex, e.g., girls can invite all the girls in her class, or boys can invite all the boys in his class. If your child chooses to invite only a few classmates, he/she cannot distribute invitations at school. Please remember that school personnel (teachers, secretaries, etc.) cannot give out phone numbers or addresses of students for this purpose. If a student brings invitations to school and doesn’t follow these guidelines, the invitations will be returned to you to distribute them outside of school.

Resultados de la Examinación Nebraska

Nuestros estudiantes del 3ro y 4to grados terminaron sus examinaciones de Nebraska (NSCAS) en abril. Todos los estudiantes del 3er y 4to grado tomaron el exámen de lectura y de matemáticas, el cual será comparado a las demás puntuaciones de todos los niños del 3er y 4to grados en Nebraska. Los resultados estarán disponibles en el Otoño del 2019.

Botana en la Escuela

Si manda botanas a la escuela con su hijo para su cumpleaños o una fiesta de la clase, asegurase que estén separados en porciones listos para servir. Tenemos espacio limitado y a veces no podemos refrigerar o congelar botanas. Por favor mantén esto en mente cuando estás planeando la botana de su hijo/a.

Invitaciones en la Escuela

Para poder distribuir invitaciones de cumpleaños y otras celebraciones a compañeros en la escuela, el estudiante deberá de tener una invitación para cada estudiante del salón entero en la escuela. La única excepción será si el estudiante decide invitar a todos los estudiantes del mismo sexo, por ejemplo, las niñas pueden invitar a todas las niñas en su clase o los varones pueden invitar a todos los varones en su clase. Si su niño decide invitar a solo unos cuantos compañeros de clase, no puede distribuir sus invitaciones en la escuela. Favor de recordar que el personal escolar (maestros, secretarias, etc.) no pueden proveer los números de teléfono ni las direcciones para este propósito. Changes Have you had a change to your home phone, cell phone, or workplace? Please be sure to let your child’s school office know so that your information can be updated. It is very important that we have current information so we can reach you if your child becomes sick, there is an emergency, etc.

If you’ve had an address change, please notify your school immediately. If your address changes over the summer, contact our Central Office at 995-8663 to make sure you don’t miss out on important mailings during the summer.

Safety

At Holdrege Elementary your child’s safety is very important to us. Some of the safety drills we practice include Fire Drills, Tornado Drills, Lockdown Drills, and Evacuation Drills. Please note if you come for a visit we welcome you, however, we will ask everyone to get a visitor’s badge and sign in and out of the office. This makes visitors easily recognizable to staff and students.
