Feet had healed well from “voetsool” problems with which he suffered from for about 2 years. Scars were visible on one hind foot.     By whom Where When How Photo ID Faan Voges Johan Marais S100 near Satara May 1996 ? Broke off his L tusk. Carcass was found by the Nwanedzi ranger in Dec 1996, between the Kumana and Sweni windmills, on the Murhundzuluka spruit. Appeared to be dead for 3 months. Right tusk weighed 50,5 kg and stump of left weighed 27 kg. Bottom molars were both worn completely smooth so it appeared he died form natural causes. Estimated age 60.

  • THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN AND PHELWANE MANFUNYANE Name: Tsonga for “the irritable one”. Named after a former warden of the park, Lou Steyn, who was well known for his quick temper. Area: Shangoni section of the park – upper reaches of the Shingwedzi River, up to the Bububu stream. Characteristics: Large hole on the top right of his head. One of his toes of his left hind foot was splayed to one side so that he left a distinct impression very different from other elephants.

    Name: Took his name from the shawu valley, which is a major feature on the plains between Letaba and Shingwedzi. Area: Shawu valley, on the plains between Letaba and Shingwedzi. Characteristics: Left tusk longest tusk on record of a bull in KNP and one of the six longest ever to come out of Africa.

Often broke through the game fence into Manyeleti and Timbavati Characteristics: Large bull, 325 cm at the shoulder. Forefoot circumference of 152 cm.

    Left 64 kg 54 cm 257 cm Right 72 kg 56 cm 277 cm Saw the bull on January 1988 that he was in difficulty. He was thin and could hardly walk. A bullet has shattered his jaw and therefore he could not eat. He was put down.
