A key goal for us is for students to be happy, healthy, engaged and successful which is reflected in our Strategic Direction, Successful, Resilient Learners. During Wellbeing Week students have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities including Greek dancing, coding, beading, relaxation, healthy kebab making, cartoon drawing and many other experiences being provided by our dedicated staff. All of these activities aim to promote wellbeing. I encourage all of the students to take part and to seek new experiences and I also thank the staff for using their own time to ensure our students receive these opportunities. Please see the flyer at the end of the Loop for more details. Year 4 Choir Last night the Year 4 Choir performed at Sydney Town Hall as part of the Primary Proms Brindabella Concert. NAPLAN This week parents of students in Years 3 and 5 will receive their child’s results in the National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). The assessments were conducted online over a four-day period in May in the areas of reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, data, measurement and space and geometry, number and patterns and algebra. The results are reported on a scale from Band 1 to Band 10. There has been a lot in the media recently in relation to the online versus paper based assessments. The data from the online assessments provides more accurate and precise information than the paper based assessments used previously however because we are in a transition period between paper based to online, some care needs to be taken when comparing results of this year to previous years. As always please keep in mind that NAPLAN provides a snapshot of a student’s progress at a point in time. Results need to be interpreted with care and should be considered together with school based assessments. Your child’s teacher has the best insight into your child’s educational progress. Sometimes high schools and other organisations ask to see NAPLAN reports. Therefore parents are reminded to keep a copy of your child’s NAPLAN reports in a secure place for future reference. School Council Our School Council is the formal structure which assists in the development of policies and strategies designed to achieve the vision of the school. The School Council is made up of representatives of parents, staff and the community. A vacancy for a parent representative for the next two years has occurred. If you are interested in nominating for this voluntary role please contact me to obtain a nomination form or to discuss the role. The current president of the School Council, Danielle Avery, is also happy to talk to any interested parent. Danielle can be contacted on 0410 424 345. Nominations close on Friday 25 October.

Tell Them From Me Surveys –only 28 responses so far

A reminder we are participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them from Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. This valuable feedback will help inform our progress with our school plan and make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey typically takes 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 3 September and 19 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your responses are very much appreciated and do help inform our decision making.

Please use this link to access the survey: https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/2368p. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au Terry McKinnon Principal ICAS English Assessment Years 3-6

P & C News The end of Term 3 is nearly upon us. Amazing how fast the year seems to be going! Next term we are back to summer uniforms so if you need to upgrade some clothes best to speak to the Uniform shop this week. Our next P&C Meeting is this Tuesday 17th September in the teacher’s lounge. All are welcome to join us and an Agenda can be found on our website https://lanecovepublicpandc.org.au/about/meeting-minutes/

We will be farewelling a number of P&C Committee members at the end of this year so will be looking for new parents to join the P&C. If you think this is something that you would like to get involved in but aren’t sure what is involved, please feel free to stop me (or anyone from the P&C) in the playground, or send me an email at [email protected] and I will be more than happy to discuss what we do and how you can possibly become involved. NSSWE SPRING MUSIC FESTIVAL Well done to all of our bands for a wonderful weekend at the NSSWE Spring Music Festival held at Chatswood Concourse. As always, the standard was very high and LCPS sounded amazing.

VACANT COMMITTEE & INSTRUMENT ROLES: Treasurer – Music Committee Our wonderful Treasurer Sam will be leaving LCPS next year so will sadly no longer be able to be on the committee. We need someone to take over the Treasurer Role and the running of the accounts for the music programme. We would be more than happy to talk to anyone who would like to learn more about the role. Sam has assured us it doesn’t take up too much time! Ideally we would be looking for someone to work alongside Sam for the remainder of this year and then to formally take over the role in 2020. Please email if you are at all interested. It’s a great opportunity to join a fun committee who all work really well together.

Guitar Instrument Officer We are searching for a Guitar Instrument Officer to help with the management of hiring and maintaining our guitars (hire – only bass guitars so it really wouldn’t take up much time at all.). The role would be a great way to help out with the programme. Please email if you would like to find out more.

Assistant Violin Officer We are looking for someone to assist the Violin Instrument Officer at the busier times of the year starting with Instrument hire & return day (16th December) and the weeks leading up to that. Please email for more information.

Parent Rosters - please make sure you attend or, swap your day with another parent in your group.
