Special Religious Education 2020 Year 1 – Year 6
A feature of the public education system in NSW is the opportunity to provide time in class for education in ethics, faith and morality from a religious or non-religious perspective at the choice of parents.
The school website provides information on these options to support parent/carer choice.
A parent/carer may at any time notify the school in writing that they wish to change their decision. Students will continue the same arrangement as the previous year, unless a parent/carer has requested a change in writing. If you are happy with your child’s current placement, do not return this note.
Year 1 students will receive an individual note from the class teacher.
For more information about Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE), including the list of approved providers, please visit: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/learning-across-the-curriculum/religion-and-ethics Please note that there is a limit of 22 students in the ethics classes and your child may miss out on a place. If this happens your child will be placed in the non-scripture group unless another group is requested.
If your preferred SRE or SEE option is not available please contact the approved provider. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------- SRE Options The following options are available at Lane Cove Public School. Please choose one.
Anglican Catholic Hindu Islamic Jewish Bahai
□ Please check this box if you do not wish for your child to attend SRE. Your child will participate in alternative meaningful activities.
SEE Option - If you have declined for your child to attend SRE above please check below if you would like your
child to attend SEE.

On Monday we had a visit from the Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning, The Honourable Sarah Mitchell MLC, the Member for Lane Cove The Honourable Anthony Roberts MP and two of our local councillors Mr Scott Bennison and Mr David Brooks-Horn. They visited the site of the fire and were interested in how we were fairing as a school without our hall and canteen. I impressed on them how resilient the school community has been and how fortunate we have been with the level of support we have had from the Department of Education and the local community. I thank them all for taking the time to come and visit our school.

P & C News
I would like to begin by welcoming our new and returning families to the new school year. It has been a start none of us expected and I would like to thank Terry and his team for working hard to get the school ready for the students last Wednesday.
Given how many communities have been impacted by the bushfires over the summer I would like to thank the Dept of Education for all of their efforts in making our school safe for the students’ return last week, in such a short amount of time, whilst juggling the needs of other communities across the State.
I would also like to acknoweldge the efforts of the Music and Canteen Committees who have worked tirelessly over the last week and a half to ensure they can provide services for the students for Week 2. The Music Committee has replaced instruments and found rehearsal spaces so students can begin orchestras, bands, ensembles etc with minimal disruption.
Similarly the Canteen Committee has done a huge amount of work to ensure we can provide healthy and nutritional meals this week. They are also planning for the temporary canteens installation so that the students can also purchase food and drinks as soon as possible.
Not to be outdone the Uniform Shop has opened its doors to ensure all students and families can be fitted with the right sizes from Day 1.
The P&C has set up a GoFundMe https://www.gofundme.com/f/lane-cove-public-school-fire-recovery-
fund?sharetype=teams&member=3582256&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_na
+share-sheet&pc_code=ot_co_dashboard_a&rcid=2200bef9d2f949649efc26bd14faf4fd page in response to the
broader Lane Cove community and ex-students wishing to help us get back on our feet. We are fortunate that insurance will cover a lot of what has been lost and as we work through the re-build process we will get a better understanding of what needs to be replaced. The P&C works closely with Terry and his team to continue to help them provide the best opportunities and resources for our kids.
For those that are new to the school we have a fantastic P&C team and lots of great families across our school. We are always looking for volunteers and new ideas to help support our school.
Some of the support our P&C provides includes: Music Program, Canteen, Kindergarten Assistance, Teacher’s Aids, Learning Support, Grounds maintenance, sporting equipment and shade cloths.
Our first P&C meeting is this Tuesday 4th February at 7pm in the teacher’s lounge. Please feel free to drop in.
You can always find out more on our website https://lanecovepublicpandc.org.au/
I look forward to a great year.

CHESS!! Learn to be a chess champion! Coaching for students at Lane Cove Public School is held on: Intermediate: Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, starting on 6 February 2020 Beginner/Rookie: Thursdays from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, starting on 6 February 2020
Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment. Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games.
Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop.
If your child is interested in taking part, you can collect an enrolment form from the school office, or email [email protected] for a copy. For all enquiries, please contact Sydney Academy of Chess on (02) 9745 1170.

Uniform Shop News
A big welcome back to all our
teachers, staff, students and
families and a special warm
welcome to our new LCPS
families. The Uniform Shop had a very busy start to the year with a slight delay in
opening due to our recent fire. We thank everyone for their patience and are
pleased to say we are back to normal this week.
We look forward to seeing you soon.
Munch Monitor is back up and running so if you can’t
make it to the shop during opening times, order online at
www.munchmonitor.com
For your convenience, see attached instructions on how
to set up an account.
RETURNING FAMILIES – PLEASE UPDATE CLASSES TO AVOID DELAYS IN
DELIVERING ORDERS.
Volunteering at school not only gives back
and helps keep services open for the
school community, but is a great way to
meet other parents and carers and
provides a connection and sense of
belonging within the school community.
We lost some very valued regular volunteers in
2019 and really need some help to keep the
Uniform Shop open 3 days a week.
If you would like to know more about
volunteering in the Uniform Shop, please email
the Manager, Tarren at
for further information.
FAQs - We have attached some Uniform Shop Frequently Asked Questions that will help with any
queries you may have about the Uniform Shop. If you have further questions, please feel free to
contact our Uniform Manager, Tarren Smith on [email protected]
YEAR 6 FAMILIES – A note will be coming home later this week with information on ordering Graduation garments. Please keep an eye out for it, we don’t want anyone missing the order cut off!!

LANE COVE PUBLIC SCHOOL UNIFORM SHOP
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the school dress code? Please see the school website for further details http://www.lanecove-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/p-c-services/uniform-shop/uniform-requirements Who is responsible for the Uniform Shop? The Uniform shop is run as a sub-committee of the P&C. The limited profits made by the shop are re-invested in school programs for the benefit of the school community. A part-time paid manager is employed by the Committee who is responsible for daily shop operations along with additional help of volunteers. When is the shop open? The current hours for the shop are below. Please keep an eye out in The Loop newsletter for any changes. Opening Hours: TUES 2.30 - 3.30pm, WED 8.45 - 10.00am, THURS 8.30 - 9.30am How does the shop work on the days it is open? The Uniform Shop is not a self serve shop. We request that customers form a queue to be served by one of our volunteers. Our volunteers will serve customers and provide help with uniform needs and the Uniform Shop Manager assists with all till sales. We can at times get very busy and we thank our customers for their patience whilst waiting to be served. How can I sign up to volunteer in the Uniform Shop? We love our volunteers, in fact we rely on them to keep the shop open 3 days a week and welcome anyone who can spare some time to help. We advertise vacant shifts weekly in The Loop. If you could spare an hour or so, every week, once a month, once a term, once a semester or even only once a year, please email [email protected] If I cannot make it to school during opening hours, can I order uniform items? YES!! There are a few ways to order your uniform items.
The quickest and most convenient way to order all items is through your Munch Monitor account, School Shop.
You can also download the order form from the LCPS website, complete and email to [email protected]
Hard copies are located at the front office. Once filled out, give to front office staff who will pass it on to the Uniform Shop Manager for processing.
Please note we do not take orders over the phone. What is Munch Monitor and how do I order through it? Munch Monitor is like an online shop and can be used for Canteen orders and Uniform Shop orders. Setting up a Munch Monitor account is easy, just follow the below steps. To create a MunchMonitor account: 1. Go to www.munchmonitor.com 2. Username: lcps 3. Password: munch2066 4. Click Sign Up to create your own account Once registered, you can go into school shop and start shopping. Once I have ordered, how does my order get delivered? All orders are processed on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday only and are placed in teachers pigeon holes. From here, the teachers will give students their orders or place them in their bag. We rely on teachers greatly to make this system work and thank them for helping provide this service.
What if I need something urgently? Apart from the Uniform Shop Manager, the Uniform Shop relies on volunteers to help keep the shop open and running and that orders are filled. We trust that opening 3 times a week and providing an online ordering system means all needs are met in a timely manner. If I order on a weekend, when can I expect my uniform items? Currently any orders made after 9am on a Thursday are processed the following Tuesday afternoon. We recognise that this is not providing a timely service to our school community due to some orders not getting home until the Wednesday. We want to provide a good service to our community and are therefore reviewing our system. In June, we are trialling a system where we will be asking volunteers to sign up for a shift on a Tuesday morning, 9am - 10am to help process any Munch Monitor orders. This shift will be purely for processing orders and will not be customer service based. We hope this will allow more volunteers to sign up and orders will get home quicker. The Uniform Shop will also trade from 2.30-3.30pm in June as part of this trial. What happens if what I have ordered isn't in stock? We try to ensure we always have stock of the essential uniform items but on occassions, we do run out. If this happens, we will process the order, deliver items we do have in stock and place remaining items on back order. We will notify you of this and if items will be out of stock for an extended period of time, we will keep you updated on delivery. What if an item is the wrong size? We are happy to exchange or refund items if the tags are still on and the product has not been worn. Please visit the shop during opening hours and bring original receipt as proof of purchase. Please note, we do not exchange or refund items bought more than six months before. How is lost property managed? The Uniform Shop is not responsible for lost property. Lost property relies on the school community to look out for lost items and return them to the lost property shelves. Lost property is located on the verandah
behind the Kit Kirkwood Hall/Canteen. A system called RagTagd was introduced to help reduce loss of property and the Uniform Shop was asked to provide uniform items that incorporated this system. What is RagTagd? RagTagd is a system that works by registering uniform items with a specific code through text messaging. This in turn provides the ability to notify owners by text message if lost items have been returned to Lost Property and scanned. The Uniform Shop provides some uniform items, such has hats and jackets, with this system to help return property to their rightful owners. The system only works if lost items have been taken back to the lost property shelves so the RagTagd scanner can read the codes of lost items and send text messages to owners. If an item is taken by someone else and they try to re-register that item, the original owner will receive a message to say someone has tried to re-register the item. This system relies on the school community to help each other by returning lost items to the lost property shelves and to be honest and not take items that do not belong to them. Do you sell second hand uniforms? YES!!! We like to provide second hand uniforms for resale and welcome donations of used uniforms that are in good condition. Donations can be dropped off at the shop during opening hours. Please be mindful that we prefer uniform items that are clean and wearable. Our second hand items are offered for sale in the shop, during shop hours and twice a year we run a second hand stall. Please remember to chose wisely as we cannot offer a refund or exchange on second hand items.
