Canyon

A canyon is a giant crack in the earth formed by usually an erosion, earthquake or a river.

An example of a canyon: The Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA

Mountain

A mountain is a landform shaped like a peak. A mountain is also a lot steeper than a hill.

Mt. Everest (pictured on the right) is the biggest and tallest mountain in the world

Archipelago

Archipelago is a group or series of islands. Archipelagos’ are places that consists of islands.

Hawaii & Indonesia are very famous Archipelagos’.

Plain

A plain is usually an are of land which is completely flat. Plains are usually formed by lava, water, wind, ice or erosion.

An example of a plain. Plains’ are usually found on farmlands etc.

Swamp

A swamp is a wetland area with shallow waters, flooding and a lot of vegetation. Aquatic and semi-aquatic animals are found in swamps.

This is an example of a swamp.

Glacier

A glacier is a big block of ice that was formed a long time ago. They are formed by snow meeting with ice and freezing to make more ice which forms the glacier.

An example of a glacier.

Plateau

A plateau is an area of highland or hill with a flat surface. They are formed by volcanic eruptions or erosion.

This is an example of a plateau.

Mesa

A mesa is a mountain with flat edges and surface. Some call mesas’ ‘table mountain’. They usually have steep cliffs.

Marsh

A marsh is an area of wetland with continuous flooding and shallow waters. The vegetation in a marsh is different from a swamp as the plants are shorter than found in swamps.

This is a marsh. Note how the features replica a prairie and swamp combined.
