NEWSLETTER No 7 2019 21 May 2019
Dear Parents, Students and Community Members
WALK TO SCHOOL FRIDAY
On Friday 17 May 54 children from Kindergarten to Year 6 participated in the Walk to School Friday event. The weather was just perfect for this occasion. On arrival at school the participating children received a sticker and a piece of fruit. Thank you to Mr Justin Douglass for organising our involvement in this event and to Mr Brahmbhatt and Ms Barot for providing the fruit.
P&C THANK YOU At the last meeting of the P&C the members very kindly agreed to support the school with $2000 for the Lexile read-ing program. Our P&C members with the support of our school community have been extremely busy of late with two highly successful fundraisers, the Mother’s Day Stall and the Sausage Sizzle, Cake Stall and Plant Sale held on Election Day. A huge thank you to everyone involved. The money raised is for our Nature Playground. A concept plan of the playground is available to view in the front office.
SCHOOL BOARD
The School Board information file is available to parents in the front office. School Board information is also available on the school website. The next meeting of the school board is on Wednesday 26 June. The open meeting of the school board will be held on Wednesday 13 November commencing at 2:40 pm.
STUDENT ATTENDANCE
Student absence at Lake Monger Primary School is mainly due to either children’s family’s taking vacations during school time and/ or children returning to school after the term has commenced. This trend is across the school. It is important that good attendance at school is established early. Children need to be at school every day to improve their learning in all aspects. Thank you to parents for providing notes, emails etc. regarding your child’s absence to their class room teacher.
HOODED RAINCOATS/ RAIN JACKETS (KINDERGARTEN – YEAR 6)
Winter’s arrival is imminent. It would be appreciated if parents could provide (to be kept in their child’s bag should it be needed) either a hooded raincoat or rain jacket with the child’s name on the item. This is needed should it be raining when the children go to and from the under cover area and the toilets. Please do not provide umbrellas for safety reasons.

Speech and language disorders
A speech disorder is when a child has difficulty pronouncing sounds correctly for their age. If it is not corrected, it can affect the ability to read and write. It may be necessary to seek help for your child if he or she: has trouble moving or coordinating his or her mouth is six months or more behind the approximate age range for speech sounds speaks very immaturately compared to other children the same age gets frustrated about speaking has hearing loss, and/or is poorly understood by people who don’t know your child. A language disorder is characterised by delays in learning to talk and understand language. It is different to a speech disorder – a speech disorder is when children have difficulty pronouncing words correctly. It’s important to remember that children learn to speak at different rates, but if you do have concerns about your child’s speech and lanuguage development, talk to your local Community Health. Go to Raising Children Network and access information on Language Development.
