We’re not horsing around… No BIG Carrots

By Kim Mehringer

On Sunday, July 26, 2020, a visitor at the Equestrian Area notice Pocahontas was not acting right; she had saliva coming out of her nose. They immediately called the caretaker to advise them of the situation. While waiting for her to arrive, they notice very large carrots were thrown into the mini horses’ enclosure. We collected about 10 pounds of large carrots from the area. Pocahontas couldn’t resist and tried to eat one of these large carrots and got a piece lodged in her throat. This is called Choke and is very uncomfortable for the animal. The vet came and had to put a tube through her nose and down her throat to move the lodged carrot. Fortunately, this worked and Pocahontas recovered fully. Please ONLY feed MNI (petite) carrots to the MINI horses. A good rule to follow is no larger than your thumb. While whoever put the large carrots into the enclosure was well-intended, the outcome could have been much worse. Thank you to the visitors who called the emergency in! We invite everyone to continue coming to the Equestrian Area behind the dam. The mini horses really enjoy everyone’s visits. We missed holding our annual Equestrian Open House this year but would like to thank everyone who gave donations for the mini horses’ care. It is greatly appreciated!!

Catch of the Day LCA Lake Manager, Joe Rush, invites Members to submit photos of their LC fishing catches. It doesn’t matter if the catch is big or small, we enjoy seeing them all. Send your “LC Catch of the Day” to [email protected]. Happy Fishing!

Lanark's Jingle Fest Cancelled

The Celebrate Lanark Committee (formerly Transformers Team) regretfully announces that Lanark's 7th annual Jingle Fest scheduled for November 28th, has been cancelled for this year. COVID-19 related issues, including uncertainty regarding future state mandates, combined with the advance notice necessary for our vendors, forced the decision. The Celebrate Lanark Committee is working on alternative events and activities to enliven this Christmas season in Lanark and hope to bring Jingle Fest back next year. Look for announcements of future events in local media and on our Facebook page at CelebrateLanark. Questions or suggestions for events/activities can be sent to [email protected].

FISHERMEN BE CONSIDERATE Fishermen: Please be considerate when fishing along and under private docks. I have received several complaints of boats being hit by lures and damage being caused to covers. This is unacceptable. Please be careful if you choose to fish around another landowner’s property. NO ATVS/UTVS ON TOWNSHIP ROADS It is a violation of Illinois state law to drive / ride your machines on Zier Road. Zier Road is not a part of the Lake Carroll road system. For those of you that don’t know, Zier Road is the township road that runs east/west on the south edge of Lake Carroll past Trailside. You are subject to citations from the Carroll County Sheriff, Illinois State Police, and/or the Illinois Department of Natural Resources if caught riding on a township road. GOLF CART REQUIREMENTS Attention Golf Cart Owners: Please refer to Lake Carroll Roadway Regulations for golf carts when using Lake Carroll road. This includes even if you’re only going from your home to the golf course via our roads. All carts MUST have visible section and lot numbers, a review mirror, and safety flag for road usage. The regulations can be found in chapter 53.02, section (B), (C), and (D). The safety flag must be a minimum of 7 feet from the ground and the color must be red or orange. We appreciate you showing your support with the American and sport team flags on your carts, but these do not adhere to the Lake Carroll Rules and Regulations. You must display the required roadway usage flag when on LC roads. MANDATORY QUIZZES All boaters and ATV/UTV operators, INCLUDING GUESTS, must have a valid certificate of completing the online safety quizzes before hitting the lake or trails. Lake Carroll Rules and Regulations state that drivers and riders of ATVs/UTVs on the LCA trail must pass and carry proof of completion of the LCA ATV/UTV quiz. Also, any guests operating watercraft on Lake Carroll must have a valid certificate of completing the Lake Carroll boater safety quiz. When boating at least one person on the watercraft must have a valid certificate. A member possessing watercraft (excluding human powered watercraft) must have at least one (1) “member” (as defined in the By-Laws) per lot who has completed the LCA Boat Safety Quiz. Below are the links where you can find the quizzes and the rules and regulations study guides that state these requirements:

LC Boat Safety Quiz | LC Trail Quiz Beginning with the 2020 hunting season, hunters must successfully complete a quiz before they can register. It is also found on the Lake & Natural Resource webpage.

LC Hunting Quiz Our summer is quickly heading into fall. Let’s continue to be safe and enjoy all that Lake Carroll has to offer. The Lake Carroll Security can be reach 24/7/365.
