Finchley news… We are living and breathing sight words in

the Finchley class. Our new Sight Word flip books have gone home this week, and students are working on reading and memorising one page of words at a time. When they feel confident, they bring their flip books in, read off the words to me and receive a sticker next to each word they can read straight away. A page of correct words means a much sought after DOJO point as well! Knowing these sight words is an essential part of becoming a confident and fluent reader. Finchley are wholeheartedly embracing the challenge!

Last week we wrote up a recipe for ricotta pancakes, including the ingredients and steps involved in making the pancakes. We HAD to put the recipe to the test. Light, fluffy and delicious. Thumbs up all round! The students produced some beautiful autumn tree artwords with Mrs Wing on Monday afternoon to celebrate the gorgeous autumn colours in the landscape at the moment.

Yengo Yarns…What's your story? Last week in

Yengo we launched our new project where we meet

English, maths, geography and history outcomes by

answering this essential question. We've been using

My Place as our first mentor text, borrowing ideas

from the author Nadia Wheatley for our own writing.

We have become architects and

carpenters in maths while learning about area. We are adding a room

each to our scaled one metre squared house plan. This lead us to

question whether two metres sqaured is enough for a skateboarding

room! We are also using string and our bodies to discover that the

length and width of a shape can be manipulated while still

maintaining the area of one metre squared.
