    Media Film Analysis

Lady in the Lake - 1947

Starts off with the image portraying Metro Goldwyn Mayer, which is the

producer and/or distributer of the film, the whole film is in black andwhite, including the trailers, due to the time it was set in. During this

image the lion roars and music is played in the background. This screen

then advances to a title sequence and cast names, all these are

expressed on letters, underneath the next one.

Here shows the actors and producers etc, this is all with music in the

background, the lighting is fairly dim and the writing and letter is alwayscentral to the image, the resolution does not fit the screen size probably

due to different resolutions around the time of the production of the

    movie.

Ends on a picture of a gun.

The lighting is very dim, possibly to show night time, and foreshadowing that bad

events will happen, there are no lights in the room.

In the background you can see a dart board and posters, as well as a high-rise city,

showing he is rich and is possibly the bad guy he is also holding a pipe which how

something suspicious is happening, and his mouth is half ajar.

Leaning back in his chair, he looks comfortable and confident at what he does.

Props- Gun and pipe, richness, carelessness, violence?

He is centred on the screen to make him most important, however the background

out of the window is also a large piece of the composition of the screen, meaning we

are meant to look at setting more closely, that he is high up.

    Colour - Black and White - Old-fashioned.

Sound - Christmas music? Is happy and cheerful, maybe dramatic irony due to the

fact it is a film full of gun crime and murder.
