AYSO 1455 Ladera Ranch - Parent’s Code of Conduct

AYSO is a nationwide non-profit organization that develops and delivers quality youth

soccer programs in a fun, family environment based on AYSO’s Six Philosophies:

Everyone Plays®

Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least 50% of every game. It’s no fun to

spend the game on the bench, and that’s no way to learn soccer!

Balanced Teams

Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it’s more fun and a better learning experience when teams of similar ability

play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels.

Open Registration

Our program is open to all children between 4 and 19 years of age who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only

criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut.

Positive Coaching

Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. A coach

can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so AYSO requires they create a positive experience for every boy and girl.

Good Sportsmanship

We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill

good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO.

Player Development

We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as

members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

Therefore I agree:

1. I will not force my child to participate in sports. I know that my children are involved in organized sports for their

enjoyment, not mine.

2. I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the region.

3. I will encourage my child to always play by the rules.

4. I will help my child work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship in every game. My child will be a winner even

in defeat.

5. I will NOT ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or for losing a game.

6. I will remain 3 yards behind the touch line, never enter the field of play and not stand behind the goal during play.

7. I will set a good example, children learn best by example.

8. I will applaud good plays by my team and by members of the opposing team.

9. I will never publicly question the referee’s judgment and honesty. The decisions of the referee regarding facts of play are

final.

10. I will recognize the value and importance of the volunteer coaches, referees and officials and give them their due respect.

Without them there would be no AYSO Soccer.

11. I will support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sporting activities

12. I will demand a sports environment that is free from drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and I will refrain from their use at any

AYSO game and/or practice where children are present.

13. I will adhere to the posted signs at fields and not bring in dogs within the fence area at Cox Soccer 1

14. I will not bring any liquid other than water on to the turf field at Cox Soccer 1.

I understand and accept the league policy that if I violate the Code of Conduct I may be asked to leave the game. I also understand that

violations in my pledge may result in my being banned from further attendance at games for the remainder of the season.

A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. A concussion is caused by bump, blow or jolt to the head or body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. Even a “ding,” “getting your bell rung,”or what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious.

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF CONCUSSION?Signs and symptoms of concussion can show up right after the injury or may not appear or be noticed until days or weeks after the injury.

If an athlete reports one or more symptoms of concussion listed

below after a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or body, s/he shouldshould be kept out of play the day of the injury and until a healthcare professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, sayss/he is symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play.

Parent/Athlete Concussion Information Sheet

Did You Know?• Most concussions occur without loss of consciousness

• Athletes who have, at any point in their lives, had aconcussion have an increased risk for another concussion.

• Young children and teens are more likely to get aconcussion and take longer to recover than adults.

SIGNS OBSERVED BY COACHING STAFFAppears dazed or stunned Is confused about assignment or positionForgets an instruction Is unsure of game, score, or opponent Moves clumsilyAnswers questions slowly Loses consciousness (even briefly)Shows mood, behavior, or personality changesCan’t recall events prior to hit or fallCan’t recall events after hit or fall

SYMPTOMS REPORTED BY ATHLETESHeadache or “pressure” in headNausea or vomitingBalance problems or dizzinessDouble or blurry visionSensitivity to light Sensitivity to noiseFeeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggyConcentration or memory problemsConfusionJust not “feeling right” or “feeling down”

CONCUSSION DANGER SIGNSIn rare cases, a dangerous blood clot may form on the brain in a person with a concussion and crowd the brain against the skull. An athlete should receive immediate medical attention if after a bump, blow or jolt to the head or body s/he exhibits any of the following danger signs:

• One pupil larger than the other • Is drowsy or cannot be awakened • A headache that not only does not diminish, but gets worse

• Weakness, numbness, or decreased coordination • Repeated vomiting or nausea • Slurred speech • Convulsions or seizures • Cannot recognize people or places • Becomes increasingly confused, restless, or agitated • Has unusual behavior • Loses consciousness (even a brief loss of consciousness should

be taken seriously)

WHY SHOULD AN ATHLETE REPORT THEIR SYMPTOMS?If an athlete has a concussion, his/her brain needs time to heal. While an athlete’s brain is still healing, s/he is much more likely to have another concussion. Repeat concussions can increase the time it takes to recover. In rare cases, repeat concussions in young athletes can result in brain swelling or permanent damage to their brain. They can even be fatal.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU THINK YOUR ATHLETE HAS A CONCUSSION? If you suspect that an athlete has a concussion, remove the athlete from play and seek medical attention. Do not try to judge the severity of the injury yourself. Keep the athlete out of play the day of the injury and until a health care professional, experienced in evaluating for concussion, says s/he is symptom-free and it’s OK to return to play.

Rest is key to helping an athlete recover from a concussion. Exercising or activities that involve a lot of concentration, such as studying, working on the computer, or playing video games, may cause concussion symptoms to reappear or get worse. After a concussion, returning to sports and school is

a gradual process that should be carefully managed and monitored by a health care professional.

RememberConcussions affect people differently. While most athletes with a concussion recover quickly and fully, some willhave symptoms that last for days, or even weeks. A moreserious concussion can last for months or longer.
