Spectral resolution and rangeThe LabRAM system incorporates a fast achromatic Czerny-Turner spectrometer with a rugged high-stability design. Ramananalysis with unsurpassed spectral resolution and range gives themost detailed chemical analyses and images.

The high resolution version, the LabRAM HR, is the most powerfulanalytical system available on the market with exceptional spectralperformance. Even in the UV, its unique 800 mm focal lengthspectrograph provides uncompromised efficiency and spectralresolution. No other Raman system offers such easily accessedperformance.

Multiple laser excitationsThe Raman microsope benefits greatly from the use of differrentlaser wavelengths to expand the range of samples that may beanalysed. The LabRAM systems incorporate a high stabilityoptical design to enable fast and reliable switching for multiple lasersources. An internal HeNe (633nm) laser can be complemented byAr+, solid state, and diode lasers covering a broad range ofwavelengths, be it for resonance Raman optimized for sensitivity, for fluorescence suppression, or for sample penetration. Otherlaser sources can even be supplied for specialized UV and NIRapplications.

System Concept

Page 5: LabRAM Series - Welcome to HORIBA · The LabRAM INV is an innovative inverted Raman microscope with either standard or high resolution versions. It provides true confocal microscope

True confocal microscopeopticsThe true confocal entrance optics of the LabRAM microscopesoffer the ultimate performance in spatial resolution and depthdiscrimination. The most detailed Raman images are obtained withincreased speed and efficiency. The integrated design ensurestotal stability, whilst the continuously adjustable and motorizedconfocal aperture perfectly matches the investigated volume orparticle area.

Confocal microscope principle

Only true confocal performance provides the ultimate in Ramanmapped images and depth profiling. HORIBA Jobin Yvon confocalRaman microscopes approach the diffraction limit and offer thesmallest possible sampling volumes. Where correctly matchedobjectives and laser wavelengths are used the LabRAM systemcan reach sub-micron resolutions.

Confocal depth measurement on a laminar polymer film enables thecharacterisation of successive layers without cross-sectioning orsignificant blurring of layer boundaries

Macro measurementsThe macro chamber available on several of the LabRAMinstruments is designed to perform efficient Raman studies on bulk, solid or liquid samples. The chamber integrates on the side of theinstrument through direct coupling and enables both 90° and 180°scattering measurements for added flexibility.

Optimal laser rejectionThe LabRAM series offers state-of-the-art Rayleigh rejection filtersin order to ensure optimal laser rejection, increased throughputefficiency and extented filter lifetime. Standard holographic filtersare also available for where special antistokes Ramanmeasurements are required.

The low frequency region of the Raman spectrum down to30 cm-1 or less is reached through the use of our low frequencyfilter options. This information-rich region is ideal for the analysisof lattice vibration bands such as those found with subtle drugpolymorphism and crystal phases, with many inorganic samplesand with carbon nanotubes.

Robust and sensitive Raman The LabRAM family from HORIBA Jobin Yvon offers a completerange of compact, dedicated high performance Ramanmicroscopes suited to both the scientific researcher and theindustrial analyst.

This new generation of technically advanced instrumentationcombines ease of operation with superior performance. TheLabRAM provides enhanced sensitivity, flexibility and long termstability. Incorporating new and optimized high throughput singlespectrographs, measurement times are extremely fast, requiringoften only seconds to obtain a complete and reliable Raman"fingerprint".

Raman images can be recorded quickly and with a full spectrumcontained in each pixel. The speed of measurement and softwarecapabilities allow each spectrum to be obtained in milliseconds (foran example see the image below right). Switching between modesof operation, laser sources and resolution options is quick with fullyautomated versions available to maximize laboratory throughput.

Versatile sampling andtechnologyThe LabRAM systems are ideally suited to micro and macromeasurements, to 2-D and 3-D imaging and depth profiling. TheTRUE confocal microscope enables the most detailed images andanalyses to be obtained with speed and confidence.

Highly versatile, each LabRAM can be supplied as a base unitwhich can be expanded with a range of options, upgrades andaccessories to suit all budgets and applications. Specialized, dedicated or customised solutions can even be supplied whererequired, so, whatever spectral resolution, laser wavelength orsampling regime is needed HORIBA Jobin Yvon can provide asolution.

Be it for analytical, industrial or research measurements there is aLabRAM system ideally matched for you.

Raman andPhotoluminescenceHORIBA Jobin Yvon offers unique Raman/PL dedicatedconfigurations for the LabRAM HR and LabRAM ARAMIS. Using acombination of both vibrational and electronic/optical analyses thecombined Raman/PL system yields a greater depth of informationon many important materials.

This is particularly true in the characterization of semiconductormaterials, quantum dots and carbon nanotubes and can provideinformation directly related to sample structure, the productionconditions, homogeneity, purity and performance.

Raman and TCSPCTime-Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) is afluorescence lifetime measurement technique which providessensitive probing of low light level signals into the picosecondrealm. This technique can now be coupled to the LabRAMinstruments. Both vibrational and fluorescence lifetime informationcan be recorded from the same sample on the same equipmentplatform.

This unique innovation opens the door to new applications andnew solutions in the fields of analytical chemistry, biomedicalimaging and material science.

Raman imagingThe new generation of Raman confocal microscopes offers anon-destructive method of sample analysis at the micron andsub-micron level. It possible to obtain fast and accurate ‘chemical’images. Raman mapping from HORIBA Jobin Yvon has beendesigned to produce the fastest and most detailed Raman images. It is achieved by moving the sample with a precise motorized XYsample stage or by scanning the laser in the sample plane. Acomplete and confocal Raman spectrum is obtained for each pointon the sample. The Raman hyperspectral image is thenreconstructured in the sophisticated LabSpec Raman software toproduce the highly accurate final image.
