Even when installed not on a roof, Rhenofol shows its
excellence in long-term waterproofing. When used as a water-
proofing material for water retention reservoir lining, Rhenofol
demonstrates compelling performance even after two decades
of extreme exposure to seasonal low and high water levels. The
specifications of Rhenofol still surpass the initial requirements.
This is due to the optimal performance characteristics of Rhenofol
at low temperatures and frost as well as in hot weather or drought.
In practice, this means no leakage and unimpaired functionality.
Permanent stability on the flat roof is one of Rhenofol’s
essential strengths. Combined with its application versatility, the
roofing membrane system proves to be the ideal solution for almost
any architectural design, including office and administrative
buildings, industrial or commercial objects, profiled steel decking,
reinforced or lightweight concrete, timber board cladding, ventilated
or non-ventilated roofs, terraces and green roofs. Various product
versions within the Rhenofol roofing membrane system provide
a perfect match for different object requirements and roof designs.

CEDEX has come to the conclusion: Rhenofol is the best!
A highly robust membrane like Rhenofol which has been reliably waterproofing
the retention reservoir La Florida for over two decades is an even more perfect
solution on the roof top.
CEDEX is the central fabric and material laboratory of the
research institute for public building projects. Recently, CEDEX
has produced an expert’s report analysing and evaluating the
performance of the Rhenofol waterproofing installed in the water
retention reservoir La Florida on the isle of Tenerife. Another
participant of the inspection was BALTEN (Balsas de Tenerife), the
local autonomy authorities for water reservoirs on Tenerife.
Practical long-term testing: Samples of the waterproofing
material were regularly taken from spots that were exposed to
intense solar radiation and severe trade winds for half of the year,
and flooded during winter and spring.

Rhenofol after 18 years: as good as new!
If other membranes have to be replaced after less than ten years, Rhenofol even after two decades of exposure is in top shape constantly surpassing initial require-ments.
BEST MARKS: The secret of success of this FDT water-proofing membrane is the low plasticizer loss of Rhenofol amounting to only 12.4% during 18 years of exposure.

Water reservoir La Florida:
Rhenofol is standing the
test of time
High load on the membranes
due to the specific climate
on Tenerife
Best quality for Rhenofol: Certified by CEDEX and BALTEN.
The administration of the isle of Tenerife and its water
authorities are focusing on prospective water management in order
to address water supply problems specifically and in time. Beside
water recovery by using sewage plants and desalination plants, this
also includes building water retention reservoirs. However, the
latter are comparably expensive, as the predominantly volcanic
rock soil on Tenerife always requires reliable waterproofing. Since
the end of the 1970’s, PVC has been employed for waterproofing
the retention reservoirs. For this type of hydraulic structures, in
particular, construction material specifications as well as installation
guidelines have been drawn up. Membranes produced by the
most different manufacturers are employed. At a specific water
reservoir, La Florida in Icod de los Vinos in the north of the isle,
the investors decided to use Rhenofol by FDT for the challenging
task of waterproofing the volcanic rock substrate.
The climate on Tenerife is very specific: on the one hand, it is
moderate, with little variations in temperature, and predominantly
mild throughout the year. On the other hand, higher UV loads are
to be expected even in winter, i. e. already in February, with
contrasting climate at the coast with its warming sunshine and at
the volcano Pico del Teide still in the cold embrace of winter. The
topography of the island with its numerous valleys is another reason
for the varying weather conditions on Tenerife.
