Just as was the case last year, the vendors will be grouped into a mix of arts and crafts, jewelry, food, health and infor- mational booths. Some area businesses will have booths with promotional items or food. Face painting, massage, automotive, cat toys, paint ball, hula hoops, cut low- ers, spinal screenings and more will also be available to patrons. There will also be many dif- ferent service and community groups looking for support, new members or just out to have fun. There will be favorite fes- tival food such as snow cones, cotton candy, kettle corn, hot dogs, salads, BBQ, pizza, jams, roasted nuts, Hawaiian shaved ice and chocolate. Sat., Aug. 25, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. All Comers Cruise-in The public is welcome to bring their cars, trucks and mo- torcycles for show at the All Comers Cruise-In, which will take place in Holley Park on the grass around the La Center Little League baseball ields. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $5 per vehicle. Last year, the event drew about 80 vehicles. Awards will be presented in 15 different categories ranging from pre-1920s era cars to con- temporary cars and everything in between according to orga- nizer John Lindblom. Sat., Aug. 25, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Entertainment on the Main Stage, Holley Park Solo Acoustic artist Raeann Phillips will get the live entertain- ment underway at 10 a.m. Phillips is an American singer and song- writer with whimsical Paci ic Northwest roots. La Center teen rock band Despite Rejection will follow on the main stage at 11 a.m. The band describes themselves on their Facebook page as a group of dedicated musicians that play Rock-n-Roll. Richie and the Catillaces will take over the main stage at noon and play throughout the after- noon. The Vancouver-based band plays Rock-n-Roll, Blues and Country from the 50’s through the 90’s. Sat., Aug. 25, 11 a.m. Beautiful Baby Contest Parents will once again have the opportunity to enter their sons and daughters in the Our Days Beautiful Baby Contest. Registration will begin at 10:45 a.m. and there is no fee to enter. Winners will be crowned in three categories – 0-6 months, 7-12 months and 13-18 months – in addition to the naming of an overall Grand Champion. Babies will be judged on natu- ral beauty and personality. The contest will take place in Holley Park in the covered picnic area. Sat., Aug. 25, 1-4 p.m. Lawn Mower Races The always-popular lawn mower races will return to Our Days once again and partici- pants will be battling for $800 in cash prizes. The event will once again take place at the same ield on 7th St., west of Paciic Ave., as it has in previous years. Heat races and time trials will determine the lineup for the main events and there will also be a powderpuff competi- tion for the ladies. Festival goers can take the complimentary trolley up to the Lawn Mower Race ield. There will also be food and drinks available during the races. Sun., Aug. 26, 4-8 p.m. Barbershop in the Park The 7th annual event will in- clude a concert as well as compe- tition between quartets. There is no admission charge for the event thanks to sponsorship provided by the City of La Center. The Miss Teen La Center Court will sell popcorn and root beer loats. A cappella groups will per- form in several different cat- egories including barbershop, doo wop, gospel, collegiate, high school and even children. This year’s featured groups are Martini and Pepper. Photo by Mike Schultz Walking tours scheduled for Our Days The La Center Historical Museum is offering two histo- ry-laden guided tours and simi- lar self-guided tours as part of the “Our Days” Celebration on Sat., Aug. 25, from noon-4 p.m. Guided tours start at the mu- seum at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Tour One will include site commen- taries about Old Main Street, the sternwheelers that traveled on the East Fork of the Lewis River – including The Leona which caught ire and sank on the south bank – and Timmen’s Landing, where logging scows and sternwheelers shared the docking facilities. Tour Two will include Pa- ciic Highway from 4th Street north to West 6th Street and the current “Main Street” area, which still has commercial buildings that were established in the early 1900’s. Two corner houses within a block apart on Paciic Highway are more than 100 years old and both were occupied by Nick Rashford, La Center’s irst mayor. To take a self-guided tour, just drop in at the museum and pick up a pamphlet. The event is free, donations will be accepted.
