Guidance for ‘Visual Recording Research’ Assessment Two – Task One Date Set: 4 th November Date Due: 9 th November For Assessment Two, Task One you will complete a research task. In order to develop ideas for your own visual recording styles you must research what visual language is currently used for your target markets. You should collect a range of examples of fruit juice packaging that include visual recording in some way. Choose two of the below target markets and separate the designs into these categories. Analyse each category and choose one example from each category to analyse and compare in depth. Important things to remember: Learners should choose two of the following categories; fun fruit juice for children, protein rich fruit juice for gym goers and organic fruit juice for young mothers. Learners should post images found onto their blog in separate posts based on target market. Learners should bullet point for each category what sort of visual recording and visual language they can see. E.g. materials, techniques, specific information, subject matter, style, scale, meaning, context, perspective, is it factual or expressive, patterns, mark making, colours, lines, shapes, primary sources, secondary sources. This should be posted onto their blog. Learners should choose one example from each category to analyse in detail and compare the visual recording styles seen in category. Guidance for ‘Visual Recording Research’ Assessment Two – Task One

Date Set: 4 th November Date Due: 9 th November

For Assessment Two, Task One you will complete a research task.

In order to develop ideas for your own visual recording styles you must research what visual language is currently used for your target markets.

You should collect a range of examples of fruit juice packaging that include visual recording in some way.

Choose two of the below target markets and separate the designs into these categories.

Analyse each category and choose one example from each category to analyse and compare in depth.

Prepare your blog

Set up your blog so that we know that the following work is for assessment two.

Create a New post that introduces the new brief. Title it ‘Assessment Two – Unit 1: Visual Recording in art and design– Fruit Juice Packaging Brief.’

On this post, post an image of the scenario and write a short explanation of which target market you have chosen and why.

Collect Imagery for target market one.

On a blog post collect 15 examples of fruit juice packaging for one of your chosen target markets e.g. fun fruit juice for children, protein rich fruit juice for gym goers and organic fruit juice for young mothers. Remember the examples must contain visual recording.

At the bottom of the post bullet point what sort of visual recording you have seen, aiming to answer the following questions.

What materials have been used for visual recording?What techniques have been used for visual recording?Is specific information being conveyed through for visual recording?What subject matter do you see visually recorded?Is the visual recording stylised?Is the visual recording factual or expressive?What scale is the visual recording within the packaging?Is any perspective/ 3D form suggested in the visual recording? Does the visual recording convey any specific meanings or context?Are there any patterns used in the visual recording?What sort of mark making can you see within the visual recording?What kinds of colours are used in the visual recording?What kinds of lines are used in the visual recording?What kinds of shapes are used in the visual recording?Do you think the visual recordings created from primary or secondary sources?

Conclude how your research may affect your own visual recording.

Write a short blog post about what you have learnt from exploring visual recording for the different target markets. Explain how this will affect your own styles of visual recording when developing drawings for fruit packaging. E.g. what materials you will use, what subject matter you might draw, what style you may draw in, what type of mark making you may use etc.
