“This dark door of the cove is sealed tight.
We must find a way to sneak in, then we will
grab Razz, and run, run, run," said Max.
"I've discovered a dusty trap door," said
Neal. "You push it, Max. I'm to-o-o-o
s-sc-ared to move it!"
"Be careful,” Neal answered Max. “It looks
like a trap to catch us."
"Caw-haw-haw! Come in, the door is
open for you. Do you like the purple
lightning? Haw-haw! We make it here.
Haw-haw," continued Rantin Raven. "So
you want Razz, haw-haw? Dangerous
Vanboo is lifting him into the dungeon.
Beadee Bat will change him to a dark cat.
We need a mascot to help us banish the
Land of Morning. Caw-haw-haw! Come
right this way."
"We must rescue Razz before he's changed
into a dark cat," said Max.
"Haw-haw," caws the raven.
"We've got the cat, and we've got you.
Haw-haw, where's that girl?
Just watch, we'll get her too!”
"C-come on, N-neal,” stuttered Max.
"Something bad is happening to Razz. We
must find him!"

"Oh, where are you Max? I can't see
anything," asked Neal.
"Me-ow."
"I hear a faint meow," said Max. "Let's find
where it is, okay? Razz needs us!”
"me-ow… me-ow”
"Yikes, what's that crawling around our
feet?" cried Neal.
"Caw-haw-haw. That's our pet, Slither
Snake. Follow him to your cat boys, haw-
haw," called Rantin Raven.
"Neal, this is a trap, hold my hand,"
offered Max.
"Me-ow… me-ow."
6
"I keep slipping on these slime rocks,”
said Neal, “and Slither Snake is blocking my
s-s-steps."
"Look,” explained Max. ”There is another
flash of purple lightning. I can see a mossy
ledge, a big bat has got Razz. Poor Razz!"
"me-ow"
"Caw-haw-haw," called the raven. "Beadee
Bat, hang on to that cat. We are on our way
to the dungeon.”
“It's time for the Dangerous Vanboo to
swoop down and grab the boys, haw-haw,"
cawed the vulture

"Quick! Let's say a laser chant, before it's
too late!" called Max.
“Razzle-Dazzle, laser light.
Laser light, gold and bright.
Banish this dark cove tonight.
so everything with the crocs
and Razz will be all right."
9
"Vanboo, where is this light coming from?"
screeched Rantin Raven. “Get rid of it! Get
to the dungeon, fast or we're zapped! Yikes,
we’re ZAPPED!
"YES, but we are saved," said Max. "A laser
channel of light came into the dark cove.
Light always banishes darkness!"
10
11
"Kim, you have come in with the channel of
light," said Neal. "It's good to see you!"
"Oh, YES," said Max, "and I'm so happy.
Something furry and purry is at my side.
I know it's Razz! It's time for hugs."
“PURR-RR”
"It feels so good to be out of the Cove of
Gloom," said Neal.
"Hello, hello," sings Perky. "Yellow shafts of
light have changed the purple lightning.
A miracle has happened. The Cove of
Gloom is sealed forever!"
"Hello, hello! Listen, the Croc Clock is
chiming 24 chimes," called Perky Parrot.
“It's celebration time!”
Periwinkle Peacock spreads his gigantic tail
and points to the Croc square. “Come follow
him. He usually knows the direction to go to
celebrate."
(How do crocodiles celebrate?) 12
The crocodiles are having a parade.
"This is a celebration !" cried Max.
The yellow crocodiles are getting in line.
It will be the grandest celebration of all time.
The Land of Morning has banished
darkness.13
"Look at this extraordinary parade of yellow
crocodiles, with several different patterns,"
called Kim. "I can see polka-dot crocs,
gingham crocs, calico crocs, striped crocs,
paisley crocs. I see crocs with stars, hearts,
and flowers. They are all nice. But, I like
Yours, the plain yellow crocodile best."
(Which is your favorite ?)
Periwinkle leads the parade as grand
marshall. He looks royal, with a crest and his
large spectacular colored tail with eye-like
spots spread out like a huge fan. They are
all marching around the Croc-Square.
“Let's go celebrate with them, Max," said
Kim. "I wish everyone at home were here to
enjoy this extraordinary party. You know
what? I am missing Mom, Dad and Teena
Lee."

Kim, Ours, Max, and Neal ride on Yours and
Mine. They wave flags as they ride
in the spectacular crocodile parade.
Perky Parrot sings:
"What a day! What a day!
Darkness has gone away.
We can all sing and play.
Kim and Max and friends
please . . . stay!"
"It's very nice here," replied Kim, "but there
is a time for everything and it is time for us
to go home. How do we get home?"
After reading this book, talk for a fewminutes about being careful.
