EAGLE NEWS DECEMBER 2018 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OF CLAYTON YOUTH ENRICHMENT AFTERSCHOOL TAKE A PEEK! SUPERHERO DAY ELECTION DAY UPCOMING EVENTS SPECIAL THANKS SUPERHERO DAY "Everyone has a superhero inside of them waiting to be discovered.” In the Clayton Youth Enrichment Afterschool Program, we want all our students to feel like they can be whatever they want to be. At times children may get the idea that you have to know how to fly or break down brick walls to be super. That is not the case. At Clayton, we instill to the students that you can use your mind and heart to be super. You can be the next President of the United States of America, cure a disease, or make a positive change in the world. You can be SUPER! When you think of a superhero you usually think of Batman or Superman. In the afterschool we wanted the students to recognize real life superhero’s as well. The students shared through writing about a superhero in their lives. The responses were touching as they shared that their superhero was a parent, a religious figure, or a celebrity. On November 15, 2018, the students in the afterschool program celebrated Superhero Day. The families of the students were invited to come engage in the Superhero Experience. L. ELECTION DAYand/or potential.  This group is responsible for student lead meetings for the betterment of the afterschool program.     Beginning in October the students selected an office position to run for and created a campaign.  They made posters to post around the school with cute slogans like “I’m the Missing Piece.”  Each student facilitated speeches to the program on why they will be a good candidate.  On Election Day, November 6, 2018 each student in the program was able to vote for a program President, Vice President, Secretary, and Historian.  We made voting booths and a “I Voted” poster for the students take a picture with after they cast their vote. Congratulations to our 2018-2019 Empower Afterschool Leaders!  Our President Grace, Vice President Kham, Secretary Rebekah, and Historian Esther.
