Key Terms

• IDX: Internet Data Exchange is a technology term for a link to your MLS from your website. Wolfnet’s IDX is built so that leads for non-KW listings are routed directly to you.

• Wolfnet: KW’s vendor/partner for IDX, or links to your MLS and listings.

• URL: Universal Directory Locator is a tech term for website address.

• Domain: Another term for URL or website address.

• Hyperlink: A link to another website, page, place on a page or to an email address.

• Source: This is the term for the code that tells a web page how to appear and function. All sites contain source code and your browser interprets this code and displays the website as the designer intended.

• Content: Any material, written or visual, added to a webpage.

• Widget: An embeddable item that can be used on a website to enhance the user’s experience and appearance of your website.

• Frame or Iframe: Using a special piece of source code, an iframe pulls another website into yours while keeping it inside of your template.

• CSS: Cascading Style Sheet refers to a template website where only some areas can be customized.

Completing contact info in section 1.2

• Completing your contact info is crucial to you getting the leads you have worked so hard to obtain.

• Section 1.2 of your website admin tool makes it easy to manage the various ways someone might try to reach you about your professional services. It is very important to make sure this info is always up to date.

• If you intend to register for an IDX with Wolfnet, please include a FAX number as this is required by Wolfnet, should they need to send you important documents and authorization forms.

• If you are required to, or if you would like to display a link to your Market Center’s website, you can enable this in section 1.2.

Personalizing your homepage message in section 1.5

• The most important piece of your website is the homepage message. This should be updated right away with original content related to you and your business.

• Your homepage message should be detailed, about your real estate business and specialties.

• Consider why a customer should choose you as their agent over your competition?

• While some personal info is helpful in demonstrating your personality, you should limit this to avoid appearing unprofessional to your audience.

• Key words should be sprinkled throughout your homepage message. These are terms that you want people searching for on Google so that your site is listed as a suitable match to their search. Use a key word once every 200 words making sure that they are consistent with your website’s theme and are in context with what you have written.

• Remember, this is your first impression with anyone visiting your site. Apply your pitch in written form here so that it is clear who you are and what services you have to offer.

Personalizing your homepage message: Using the text editor

• The text editor is a tool that will allow you to enter and customize the content you place on your website. The text editor can be found in section 1.5 for your homepage message and 3.7 for any custom pages that you create.

• Get to know the features of the text editor. Understanding how to use this tool will help you to maximize the time you spend working on your site.

• The “Help” link will provide you with a visual guide for each of the buttons on the text editor and a description of each button’s function.

• Use the “source” button to embed any item that is given in HTML format. This will include widgets, YouTube videos and frames of other pages. Adding these materials will be covered in the Advanced Website Training sessions.

The Text Editor: at a glance

Click here to access the “source” mode of the editor.

Click here to insert and image from your photo library, (1.3).

Full screen mode makes it easier to edit your page.

Add text and images here.

You will notice that many of these buttons resemble those found in MS Word.

Registering for your Wolfnet IDX in section 4.1

• The Wolfnet IDX is a direct link to your MLS on your website. This link allows for your customers and clients to search the MLS and your featured properties.

• KW’s My Listings, My Leads, policy insures that any lead generated on your IDX will be directed to you. Listings belonging to KW agents will always be routed to the KW listing agent from KW.com and your Market Center’s website.

• Make sure your MCA has added your MLS ID to your KW Intranet profile. If you belong to more than one MLS, please make sure to select the appropriate MLS you would like your IDX for. This is done in the drop-down menu at the time of registration. Please contact [email protected] if you would like to request a secondary IDX link for another MLS.

• If you already have an IDX link from your MLS, it can be entered into section 4.1 under the “1st” or “2nd” IDX URL fields.

Section 4.1, at a glance

Once your IDX has been enabled and approved for use by your MLS, it will be placed in this field for you within 24 hours.

Enter your other MLS search links here. These will show up with the title you give them here, on your property search page.

Here you can add a link to “Search KW Properties” on your property search page.

Here you can choose which MLS linkto use on your homepage quick search.

Pay close attention to any messages displayed on this page. You may see a note that Wolfnet is not in your area. This is due to your MLS ID not matching your MC’s MLS.

You may also see a note about your MLS ID missing. Please contact your MCA rather than KW Support.

You may also see a note about additional paperwork beingneeded to process your IDX.Click the link to accessany required forms.

Section 4.1: At a Glance continued

If everything is in order, this is how 4.1 will appear prior to requesting your IDX.

Choose your MLS, Place a check-mark in this field and click “sign up” to submit your request.

Creating special focus pages

• Creating custom pages is a great way to share information about your areas of focus. These can be neighborhood pages that describe attractions, home types and reasons to live in one of your areas of expertise. These can also be based on any other niche that you are focused in.

• Common pages include neighborhood information, homeownership tips, market research and findings and any other info that helps to establish you as the expert in your field.

• By creating custom pages for this type of information, you will have a page you can link viewers to from your blog, FaceBook page, email campaigns and more. This allows you to create simple marketing plans that briefly touch on a topic where more information can be gained by following the link. Back-linking, as this is called, helps establish with Google the quality of content on your site and its popularity, which will help to return your website more often when someone is searching for information related to your business.

• Your Business is your Database so make sure you either require registration for valuable information or, at least, place a hyperlink to your email address.

Purchasing and configuring a domain name

• If you have purchased your domain name from a provider other than http://KWDomainStore.com or http://Godaddy.com, you will want to set up a forward of that domain name to your ###.yourkwagent.com address. If you wish to set up the alias of your domain name then please contact the KW Domain Store’s support department to inquire about transferring.

• Using the Cname/Alias process gives you the ability to personally brand your website using a domain name of your choice, rather than the deafual “###yourkwagent.com” address.

• It is recommended that you go to section 2.4 of your website admin tool and update the default address to something easier to remember. For example, ###.yourkwagent.com could be changed to something like agent’sname.yourkwagent.com. This will make the Cname set up much easier.

• Click here to access the set up video for KW Domain Store users.

• Godaddy.com users can click here for instructions on setting up their domain.
