KVA Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps

DSD International is an OEM supplier to the maple syrup industry supplying film, tubing, fittings, releasers, storage, etc. TVBS was able to sell KLRC, A Series, and KVA vacuum pumps for the process of maple sap collection. These pumps are housed in a central location within a grove of maple trees. Each tree has two fittings inserted into the tree where a plastic line is then connected. The lines run throughout the grove with hundreds or even thousands of trees. The Tuthill vacuum pump is in the collection house with additional hardware used to collect the sap when it begins to flow. The pump actually helps move the sap through the tubing. Sap flows in the spring for about 4-8 weeks. This occurs after freezing and during a time when the temperature rises above freezing. Tuthill’s KLRC and A Series liquid ring vacuum pumps work great in this application but require recovery systems, cooling in some cases, and are more complex. The KVA rotary vane vacuum pump is a simple solution. It is easy to install, pulls a deeper vacuum, and is very cost effective for the owner.

Sencorp White is an OEM supplier for thermoforming machines. These machines can be used to form plastic automotive interior components, electronics pieces, machinery components and other materials typically made of plastic where the forming needs to be identical time after time. The Tuthill vacuum pump in this application pulls on the mold as the plastic is drawn in. The vacuum eliminates any air pockets where bubbles would form into the plastic and it insures the plastic reaches all parts of the mold. Tuthill’s KVA rotary vane vacuum pump is ideal since it is simple, pulls good vacuum, is a cost effective solution, and is a reliable product.



Bridgestone is the manufacturer of tires and tubes for passenger cars, trucks and buses, construction and mining vehicles, industrial machinery, agricultural machinery, aircraft, motorcycles, and scooters.

Bridgestone Costa Rica uses Tuthill’s KVA160 rotary vane vacuum pump in a thermoforming application.

The pump is responsible for pulling off the air in the vacuum process within the autoclave vessel to avoid imperfections in the tire forming process. The image on the left represents a similar process.



Fives Cinetic Corporation is a global supplier of industrial washers for the manufacturing industry. The types of washers designed include pallet, chamber, robotics, CMM solutions, and dial table washers.

They use Tuthill’s KVA160 for a vacuum drying process in their washers. Once whatever part is being washed completes its cycle within the washer, it is dried using a vacuum pump.

Forest River Inc. is one of America’s leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles, pontoon boats, cargo trailers, and buses. Tuthill’s KVA205 rotary vane vacuum pumps are used in a vacuum hold down application. In their manufacturing process, vacuum is used to hold large sheets of wood in place, such as plywood, so it can be routed and cut into the necessary shapes and sizes used to assemble a typical travel trailer. For example, this technique may be used when cutting out window and door locations. The rotary vane pump is part of a central vacuum system that pulls vacuum to 25inHgV. The central vacuum system ties into a large vacuum header that extends to several assembly and wood routing locations throughout the plant.

Shining Ocean is a leader in the surimi seafood business, essentially pioneering the healthy surimi trend. Surimi is fish (often pollock) that is minced to make a paste that is then flavored, reformed into flakes, sticks, or other shapes, and colored. It is used as a crab substitute. One of Shining Ocean’s innovationsincludes being the first branded retail product fortified with Omega 3 fish oil, the first retail product to use no phosphate surimi with all natural flavors, and the first to color surimi with lycopene made from tomatoes.Shining Ocean uses Tuthill’s KVA630TH and KVA250 in a vacuum roll-stock packaging application. A rotary vane vacuum pump is used to pull vacuum down to 29 inHgV in each of the pockets or trays. Removing the air insures that the minimum acceptable oxygen levels are maintained, lengthening the shelf life in addition to capturing the flavors. The vacuum level and capacities will vary depending on the cycle times required (time it takes to remove the air in each pocket and moving on to the next one).

TEC is a manufacturer of autoclave products. They use KVA250 rotary vane vacuum pump in the design. An autoclave is like a large pressure cooker (vessel) that comes in various shapes and sizes. Most vacuum autoclaves are used to clean, sterilize and bond composites that have porosity. With TEC, large components such as airplane wings, flaps and other bonded composites are loaded into a very large autoclave. Depending on the components, the vacuum pressure and capacities will change. Steam and or gases are introduced to treat the components and are application dependent. Vacuum is used to degas and remove the water vapor and other applicable gases. The process is commonly used with a vacuum booster.

Regal Plastic Supply Company, a family owned business since 1954, is the Midwest’s leading supplier of see-through and industrial plastics. They have 15 total manufacturing locations.Regal Plastics in Springfield is buying Tuthill’s KVA rotary vane vacuum pump to replace an underperforming liquid ring vacuum pump. The pump is used in a hold-down application for a plastics cutting table. The pump will pull a vacuum through a substrate such as particle board to hold plastic sheets in place while the CNC router cuts the plastic to a customer’s required dimensions.

A&J Mixing is in the business of manufacturing mixers – all types of mixers. Products include heavy-duty ribbon, industrial paddle, single- and double- rotor, cement & mortar, industrial fertilizer, and continuous mixers.A&J has purchased 3 of Tuthill’s KVA600 pumps that will be used with a mixing process when some type of coating is required on the finished product. An example of a coating could be a seasoning applied to a food product. The vacuum is pulled to make the granular material adhere to the end product. A&J is a new Tuthill customer who used Busch pumps in past applications.
