Forord

Statistisk sentralbyrå legger med dette fram den sjette publikasjonen medkulturstatistikk. De foregående utgaver av NOS Kulturstatistikk ble gitt uti 1975, 1977, 1982, 1985 og 1988.

I kulturstatistikken er det lagt til grunn det såkalte utvidete kulturbegrep,som innebærer at publikasjonen dekker områder fra f.eks. teater og operatil idrett.

Publikasjonen inneholder opplysninger som kan deles i to hovedgrupper.Den ene gjelder personers deltaking i ulike kulturaktiviteter. Den andredelen gir en oversikt over deler av virksomheten til de enkelteinstitusjoner og organer innen kulturlivet, over produksjonen av enkeltekulturgoder, og tall for private og offentlige utgifter til kulturformål. Sominnledning til hvert avsnitt er det gitt en kildehenvisning for de uliketabeller.

Statistikk for museer, tros- og livssynssamfunn og fag- ogforskningsbibliotek presenteres hvert år i Ukens statistikk. I tillegg blir detårlig presentert kulturstatistikk i Statistisk årbok.

Preface

Statistics Norway presents the sixth cultural statistics, following the issuesof 1975, 1977, 1982, 1985 and 1988.

The extended conception of culture forms the basis of this publication.This implies that fields as diverse as opera and sports are included in thepublication.

The information in this publication can be divided into two main groups.The first concerning personal participation in various cultural activities.The other gives a survey on parts of the activity of various institutionsand bodies within the cultural sector, the production of some culturalbenefits and figures on private and public expenditure for culturalpurposes.

Statistics on museums, religious and philosophical communities and onspecial and research libraries are published yearly by Weekly bulletin ofstatistics. In addition cultural statistics are published each year inStatistical Yearbook.

1.1. StatistikkgrunnlagOppgavene over personers deltaking i ulikekulturaktiviteter bygger på Statistisk sentralbyråslevekårsundersøkelse i 1991.

Utvalget til Levekårsundersøkelsen 1991 er trukketblant personer som var 16 år og eldre ved utgangen av1990. Det endelige utvalget omfattet 5 015 personer.

1.2. Bruk av tabelleneFørste kapittel i NOS Kulturstatistikk 1988 bygger påLevekårsundersøkelsen 1987. Sidenlevekårsundersøkelsene i 1987 og 1991 begge erutvalgsundersøkelser, knytter det seg statistiskusikkerhet til resultatene. Dette er det nødvendig å væreoppmerksom på bade ved sammenligninger avenkeltresultat fra samme undersøkelse og vedsammenligninger av flere undersøkelser.

1.3. Andre undersøkelserResultatene fra levekårsundersøkelsene i 1980, 1983,1987 og 1991 er tidligere publisert i NOS Leve-kårsundersøkelsen 1980, NOS Levekårsundersøkelsen1983, NOS Levekårsundersøkelsen 1987 og NOSLevekårsundersøkelsen 1991. Opplysninger omtilsvarende aktivitet er også registrert i SSBstidsnyttingsundersøkelser 1971-72, 1980-81 og 1990-91og i en egen kulturundersøkelse holdt i 1977. Resultaterfra disse undersøkelsene er tidligere publisert i NOSTidsnyttingsundersøkelsen 1971-72, Hefte II, i NOSTidsnyttingsundersøkelsen 1980-81, NOS Tidsbruk ogtidsorganisering 1970-90 og i NOS Kulturstatistikk1977. Enkelte hovedtall fra Levekårsundersøkelsen1987 er tatt inn i tabell 4 i denne publikasjonen.

1.1. Statistical basisData on participation in different cultural activities arebased on the Survey of Level of Living 1991.

The sample of the survey is selected among personsaged 16 years or elder at the end of 1990. The finalsample comprises 5 015 persons.

1.2. Use of tablesThe first chapter in NOS Cultural Statistics 1988 isbased on the Survey of Level of Living 1987. Since thesurveys of level of living in 1987 and 1991 are samplesurveys, the results are encumbered with statisticaluncertainty. When comparing single results within thesame survey and with results from different surveys, itis important to notice this.

1.3. Other surveysThe results from the surveys of level of living in 1980,1983, 1987 and 1991 are published in the publicationsNOS Survey of Level of Living 1980, NOS Survey ofLevel of Living 1983, NOS Survey of Level of Living1987 and NOS Survey of Level of Living 1991. Dataon level of living are also registered in time budgetsurveys and in a separate cultural survey held in 1977.The results from these surveys are presented in thepublications NOS Time Budget Survey 1971-72,Volume II, NOS Time Budget Survey 1980-81, NOSTime Budget Survey 1970-90 and NOS CulturalStatistics 1977. Some main figures from the survey oflevel of living in 1987 are included in table 4 in thispublication.

2. Trossamfunn 2. Religious communities

Tabellene 5 og 6 over menigheter og medlemmerregistrerte tros- og livssynssamfunn utenfor Den norskekirke bygger på de opplysningene som fylkesmennenefår inn i samband med tildeling av statstilskudd. Sommedlemmer er i disse tabellene også regnetmenighetstilhorige, dvs. barn under 16 år når disse ikkeer innmeldt i Den norske kirke. I fordelingen etterfylke er det fylket der menigheten har sitt sete lagt tilgrunn for grupperingen. Dette faller ikke alltid sammenmed det enkelte medlems bostedsfylke.

Den årlige statistikken over menigheter og medlemmertros- og livssynssamfunn utenfor Den norske kirke blirpublisert i Ukens statistikk.

The tables 5 and 6 on congregations and members byregistered religious and philosophical communitiesoutside the Church of Norway, are founded on materialcollected by the county governors in connection withassignment of central government subsidies. Asmembers are also counted children under 16 years ofage when they are not entered in the Church of Norwayand their parents are members of a registered religiouscommunity. The distribution by county is based on thecounty where the religious community is seated. Thiscounty does not always coincide with the county ofresidence for all the members.

The annual statistics on congregations and members byreligious and philosophical communities outside theChurch of Norway are published in the Weekly bulletinof statistics.

3. Teater og opera

Oppgavene som ligger til grunn for tabellene 7-10 erhentet fra statistikk utarbeidet av De norske teatresforening og gir tall for de faste teatrene, Riksteatret,Den Norske Opera og for regionteatrene HålogalandTeater, Sogn og Fjordane Teater, Teatret Vårt, TeaterIbsen, Nordland Teater, Beaivvås Såmi Teahter,Haugesund Teater, Hordaland Teater og Agder Teater.

En stor del av Riksteatrets forestillinger gissamarbeid med de andre teatrene som er med istatistikken. I tabellene er disse forestillinger regnetmed under de samarbeidende teatre og altså ikkeinkludert i Riksteatrets tall.

Oppgavene over turn6forestillingene i tabell 8 gjelderforestillinger teatrene har gitt utenfor egne scener,bortsett fra gjestespillforestillinger på andre teatresscener, og forestillinger gitt i bedrifter, institusjoner,foreninger o.l.

Driftsinntektene for teater og opera i 1991 er visttabell 11. Oppgavene er hentet fra de enkelte teatresresultatregnskap.

Tabell 12 viser de samlete offentlige utgifter tilscenekunst og er utarbeidet av Kulturdepartementet.Det samme gjelder tabell 13, som viser utviklingen iforholdet mellom egeninntekter og brutto driftsutgifterved det enkelte teater i løpet av en 15-årsperiode.

Tabell 14 gir tall for frie profesjonelle teater- ogdansegrupper. Oppgaven er utarbeidet av Teater-sentrum, som er organisasjonen for de frie gruppene.

3. Theatre and opera

The data in the tables 7-10 are taken from statisticsworked out by the Association of NorwegianTheatres. These tables give figures for the establishedtheatres, "Riksteatret", "Den Norske Opera", and forthe regional theatres "Hålogaland Teater", "Sogn ogFjordane Teater", "Teatret Vårt", "Teater Ibsen","Nordland Teater", "Beaivvås Såmi Teahter","Haugesund Teater", "Hordaland Teater" og "AgderTeater".

A large part of the performances of "Riksteatret" isgiven in co-operation with other theatres included inthe statistics. In the tables these performances areincluded among the co-operating theatres, and not inthe figures of "Riksteatret".

The data on tour performances in table 8 coverperformances which the theatres have given outsidetheir own stages, except guest performances onanother theatre's stage, and performances given inestablishments, social institutions etc.

Operating receipts for theatres and opera in 1991 areshown in table 11. The data are collected from therespective theatres.

Table 12 displays the total public expenditure ondramatic art. Both this table and table 13 are workedout by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. Table 13shows the relationship between internal incomes andgross operating expenditure at the separate theatre inthe course of a 15-year period.

Table 14 gives figures for independent professionaltheatre and dancing groups. The material is workedout by "Teatersentrum", which is the organization ofthe independent groups.

4. Bibliotek 4. Libraries

Statistikken gir tall for folkebibliotek, fylkesbibliotek,skolebibliotek ved grunnskoler og fag- ogforskningsbibliotek.

Oppgavene over virksomheten til folkebibliotek,fylkesbibliotek og skolebibliotek,ved grunnskoler erutarbeidet etter Statens bibliotektilsyns årsberetninger.Hovedtallene publiseres i Statistisk årbok. Etterbibliotekloven av 18. juni 1971 skal alle kommuner,enten alene eller sammen med nabokommunen, ha etfolkebibliotek som om nødvendig skal ha filialer.Fylkesbibliotekene har som oppgave å støtte ogsupplere skole- og folkebibliotekene. Det er ikkeutarbeidet statistikk over bokbestanden vedfylkesbibliotekene. Til dels har fylkesbibliotekenesamme bokstamme som et folkebibliotek(primærbiblioteket) og i slike tilfeller er beholdningentatt med i statistikken over folkebibliotek.

Statistikken over fag- og forskningsbibliotek erutarbeidet av SSB i samarbeid med Riksbiblio-tektjenesten, og er tidligere publisert i Ukensstatistikk. Tabellen erstatter den tidligere statistikkenover spesialbibliotek, som gav tall for 7bibliotekgrupper. En ny gruppering ble innført fra1979 og deler bibliotekene i 5 grupper. Grupperingenbygger på en inndeling anbefalt av UNESCO.

The statistics give figures on public libraries, countylibraries, school libraries at primary schools andspecial and research libraries.

The statistics on the activity of public libraries,county libraries and school libraries at primaryschools, are worked out by the Norwegian Directoratefor Public and School Libraries. The main figures arepublished in the Statistical Yearbook of Norway. Inaccordance with the Library Act of June 18, 1971, apublic library is required in all municipalities, eitheralone or in co-operation with neighbouringmunicipalities, if necessary with district branches.The duty of the county libraries is to support andsupplement school and public libraries. Statistics onstock of volumes at the county libraries are notavailable. The county libraries have partly the samestock as a public library (the primary library). Insuch cases the stock is included in the statistics onpublic libraries.

The statistics on special and research libraries areworked out by Statistics Norway in co-operating withthe National Office for Research and SpecialLibraries, and are previously published in the Weeklybulletin of statistics. A new classification of libraries,based on a recommendation from UNESCO, wasintroduced in 1979. According to this, special andresearch libraries are divided into 5 groups.
