This section tells you how to properly load your dishwasher for the best washing andrinsing results.

Preparing to load the dishwasher

• Scrape leftover food, bones, toothpicks, and other hard items from dishes. It is notnecessary to rinse dishes before puttingthem into the dishwasher.

• Load dishes so soiled surfaces face thespray (down or inward). It is important forthe water spray to reach all soiled surfaces.

• Take care when loading heavy pots or pansinto the dishwasher. They can dent thestainless steel interior of the door if they aredropped or bumped.

• Make sure pot lids and handles, pizza pans, cookie sheets, etc., do not interfere with thespray arm rotation.

• Run a Rinse Only cycle to keep dishes moistif you do not plan to wash them soon. Foodslike eggs, rice, pasta, spinach, and cookedcereals may be hard to remove if they areleft to dry.

Loading the upper rackI|

The upper rack is designed for cups, glasses, and other small items.

• Load cups and glasses in the upper rackonly, in the rows between the prongs.Placing them over the prongs can causethem to chip or break.

• China, crystal, and other delicate itemsmust not touch each other during dish-washer operation. Damage may occur.

• Place items so open ends face down forbest cleaning and draining.

• Load plastic items securely in the upperrack only. Wash only plastic items marked"dishwasher safe." Cup and glass load

• Secure lightweight items so they don'toverturn during washing. Wedge light-weight items against one another oroverlap them with heavier dishes.

• Load bowls in the center section forbest stability.

Loading the lower rackThe lower rack is designed for plates, pans, casseroles, and utensils.

• Load items with cooked-on or dded-on foodin the lower reck with soiled surfaces facingin toward the spray.

• For maximum capacity and stability of anall-plate load, stagger or overlap smallplates with large ones.

• Load plates side to side along with pots, pans, and large cookware, as shown.

• Do not put small items in the lower rack ifthey are not secured in place.

Utensil load

• Load soup, cereal, and serving bowls inthe reck in a variety of ways dependingupon their size and shape. Load bowlssecurely between the rows of prongs. Donot nest bowls because the spray won'treach their surfaces.

Using the detergent dispenser

What type of detergent to use• Use automatic dishwasher detergent only.

NOTE: Never use soap, hand-dishwashingdetergent, or laundry detergent. Theseproducts will produce excessive suds whichcould cause flooding and reduce washingperformance.

• Follow manufacturer's instructions when

using powdered, liquid, or gel dishwasherdetergents. Concentrated (Ultra) powdereddetergents usually call for lower usage thando standard powdered detergents.

• Add detergent to the dispenser just beforestarting the dishwasher.

• Keep detergent container tightly closed in acool, dry place, out of the reach of children. After opening, a box of detergent shouldstay fresh for about 1 month. Detergentexposed to moisture over a period of timemight become caked and ineffective.

How much detergent to useWATER HARDNESS AMOUNT OF DETERGENT

Soft to Medium HardWater0-6 grains per gallon

For normal loads:

• Partially fill the Main Wash section (2 tablespoons or30 grams)

• Fill the Prewash section (2 tablespoons or 30 grams)

NOTE: Add only 1 tablespoon or 15 grams of deter-gent to the Prewash section if dishes are prerinsedor water is very soft,

Different brands of dishwasher detergenthave different amounts of phosphorus forsoftening water. If you have hard water anduse a detergent with a phosphorous contentof less than 8.7%, you may need to usemore detergent, or use a detergent with aphosphorous content higher than 8.7%.

• Excessive amounts of detergent combinedwith soft water may cause etching ofglassware.

NOTE: Water hardness may change over aperiod of time. Contact your local water utilityor area water softening company to determineyour water hardness, or order water hardnesstest strip part number 4171690 through theConsumer Assistance Center.

Using the rinse agent dispenserA rinse agent prevents water from formingdroplets that can dry as spots or streaks. Italso improves drying by allowing water todrain off of the dishes during the final rinseby releasing a small amount of the rinseagent into the rinse water. Your dishwasheris designed to use a liquid rinse agent.Do not use a solid or bar-type rinse agent.

Filling the dispenserThe rinse agent dispenser holds 5.2 fluidounces of rinse agent. Under normalconditions, this will last for about 3 months. You do not have to wait until the dispenseris empty to refill it. Try to keep it full, but becareful not to overfill it.

1. Make sure the dishwasher door isfully open.

2. Turn the dispenser knob to Open and liftit out.

3. Add rinse agent until the indicator windowlooks full. If you overfill, the excess rinseagent may overflow the dispenser andcause oversudsing during the wash cycle.

4. Clean up any spilled rinse agent with adamp cloth.

5. Replace the dispenser knob and turn itto Closed.

Your new dishwasher is designed to give you many years of dependable service. However, there are a few things you are expected to do in order to maintain your dish-washer properly. This section tells you how to clean and care for your dishwasher.

HYDROSWEEP* wash system

The HYDROSWEEP Wash System in yourdishwasher provides excellent cleaningresults. The wash water is continuouslyfiltered by a triple filtration and soil collectorsystem to prevent food particles fromredepositing on clean dishes.

The filter

The filter continuously filters the wash waterand traps the food particles that have beenremoved from the dishes. A small amount ofwater will always remain under the filter tokeep the pump seal moist.

The water jetsThe food particles are removed fromthe Ultra-Fine filter by 2 water jets thatare located underneath the 4-wayHYDROSWEEP arm.

4-way HYDROSWEEPspray arm

Coarse strainer(not removable)

The coarse strainer

A coarse strainer will prevent bones, pits, and other large objects from entering thepump system. You should periodicallycheck the strainer for such items that mayhave mistakenly entered the dishwasher.

Overflow protection float

The overflow protection float in the front rightcorner of the dishwasher tank prevents thedishwasher from overflowing. The float mustbe in place for the dishwasher to operate.Check under the float for objects that mayprevent the float from moving up or down.
