It’s an irony that we do not remember days but only
remember moments
‘MADNITE’, the musical
and dance extravaganza,
was held on 19th April from
6.30 PM to 8.30 PM. It
was a precursor to
Amritakalanjali 2016.
There were a lot of
entertaining performances
from students of all years
which kept an audience of nearly 700 enthralled and
interested throughout the evening.
We saw splendid performances by the outgoing
Amritadhara’16 team, and it was rightly taglined
#ekakhridhamaka. Madnite was opened by a band
performance by the first years and culminated with a dance
performance by the college team.

SLAC 2016 ‘FACE’- the CSE departmental forum organized its flagship
event ‘Stay Late and Code (SLAC) 2016’ on 2nd April 2016.
SLAC is a 24-hour coding
hackathon that brings
together developers, designers
and coders to create, innovate
and put forward their unique
ideas into action. Besides the
three engineering campuses
under Amrita Vishwa
Vidyapeetham, FACE also expanded its reach to the top
fifteen colleges of Bengaluru and had a good amount of
participation from the same. There were 105 teams that
registered with 372 participants.
The formal inauguration of the event began at 10:30 AM on
2nd April 2016 at Amriteswari Hall in the presence of
esteemed judges and chief
guests Dr. Satya Gupta, Co-
founder of Concept2Silicon
Systems, Mr. Sreekanth Moni,

of ASE-Bengaluru who also
holds a startup called Circuls
Social. Also present were
Director Br. Dhanraj and
Chair-CSE Dr. T.S.B.
Sudarshan. The event started at
11:00 AM in the ‘E’ block
CSE Lab. Multiple coding
platforms were seen on the
background of every screen.
FACE also conducted a mini
challenge on ‘hackerrank.com’. SLAC stickers and stamps
imprinted on the hands of all allowed easy access and
identification of those involved in the contest. All the
coordinators and volunteers managed to pull off the event
efficiently. The presentation began at 10:30 AM the next day
i.e., 3rd April 2016 and went on till 3:30 PM in the afternoon.
All the participants had to go through a panel of judges
encountering multiple levels of scrutiny. The six shortlisted
teams then presented their work before the entire panel. The
session witnessed many innovative and remarkable
applications and the judges had a tough time deciding the
one that stood out from the rest. The judging panel included
many prominent members like Mr. Bharath Karur from
Intelileap, Dr. Satya Gupta from Concept2Silicon, Mr. Arun,
an Alumnus of Amrita, Mr. Lalit Kumar &, Mr. Shantanu
from IPInfusion, Mr. Prasad Joshi from IBM, Mr. Neeraj
Gupta from Head Excubator & Angel Investor, Mr. Dhawan
from Nikkos and Mr. Parth Patel from Study Owl.
The first place was secured by Team Semaphores from ASE-
Amritapuri, who developed a game which could run on
Android phones as well as on desktops. They were awarded
a cash prize of Rs. 30,000/-. Second place was grabbed by
Team Cyborgs from PESIT-South Campus. Their Android
Application for deaf people using the voice recognition
sensor to convert to a textual background was found to be
very appealing and fetched them a cash prize of Rs. 20,000/-.
Team We3 from ASE-Bengaluru secured the third place
with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- for their impressive creation
of a system using Matlab for abdominal and foetal scanning
for the pregnant ladies. In fourth place was Team Coestiens
from PESIT-South Campus, who made a model on Data
Analysis. The event Prize money was sponsored by IP-
Infusion and Nikkos. The event was a huge success ably
supported and assisted by ICTS Department. The event was
coordinated by Mr. H.N. Vishwas, faculty from the Dept. of

had to clear in order to qualify for the final one.
“Kismath Connection” was a daylong event and had around
60 teams (5 participants per team) registered for the event.
The event was a technical one, where the participants had to
solve technical multiple choice questions (6 questions) within
10 minutes and map the order of the answers to the circuit
(simulated with Proteus software). Two teams who cleared
the round in the minimum time were qualified. The
feedback from the students was overwhelming with a large
number of registrations. The participants who attended the
event expressed that “Kismath Connection” is fun filled

introduction to the real time simulation and its USP over
the conventional simulation, the features, requirements
and applications (control prototyping and hardware in-the
-loop) of real time simulation along with the challenges
and solutions from OPAL-RT technologies. In the
second session, hands on training was provided as a part
of which, a PWM generator was modeled in Matlab-
2011b and was configured with the RT lab opcomm, a
communication link, to interface with the simulator. A
comprehensive design of real time digital simulator (RTS)
was furnished and a Hardware In-the-Loop (HIL)
simulation was justified with a demonstration of control
of three phase induction motor using HIL testing
equipment. This workshop will be definitely helpful in
taking up projects, internships and choosing career
opportunities.
A special talk on ‘Internet of Energy: Implication on
infrastructure and Democratization of Energy Use’ by
Dr. Priya Ranjan Mishra (Principal Scientist, Philips India)

Electronics Society, Amrita School of Engineering in RAMA
hall at 03:00 PM on 15th April 2016.
The talk was basically aimed at imparting the students the
knowledge of advances and integration of distributed energy
and how it will lead to generation and consumption on
common bus. Further it would encourage more participation
and thus say of consumer in generation, transmission and
consumptions of energy. Democratization in entire chain of
energy flow will need new, smart and advance infrastructure.
Dr. Mishra dealt with the Quality of Electricity, Importance of
Solar PV, Micro & Nano grid, Smart grid, Integrated grid and
Big Data involved in the energy market.
The talk was arranged for one hour and it was attended by
UG and PG students, in total around 30 students. The talk
