Hello Everyone

Our students at Kororo are enjoying the many new activities that this time of year brings. Year 2 are very excited everyday to be attending Swim School for the next two weeks. This week Kororo Students are taking part in the Footsteps dance program. The dances taught to the student meet outcomes from the PDHPE, specifically the dance component of the syllabus. Their programs change every year and they are

up to date with the latest dance and music trends. They teach a large range of dance styles including individual, partner and progressive partner dances.

Watching the engagement and participation of the students demonstrates the enjoyment they are experiencing. Students will have an opportunity to perform

the new dances they learn this week at Thursday night’s disco.

Kororo Swimming Carnival 2019

This week students who are turning 8 years to 13 years in 2019 will be receiving a note regarding next year’s swimming carnival. The carnival is on 20th February 2019 at the Coffs Harbour War Memorial Swimming Pool. Students who do not wish to participate in the carnival will stay at school and take part in a fun sports days.

Ethics classes at Kororo Public School

Dear Parents and Carers,

Could you be an Ethics Teacher for Kororo Public School?

In ethics classes, children learn how to think logically, how to disagree respectfully and how to support their arguments with evidence.

Children discuss topics such as:

Fairness

Imagining how others feel

How do we treat living things?

What is laziness?

How do we disagree in a respectful way?

Volunteers are needed so that ethics classes can be made available for all families who have requested them. Ethics teachers facilitate discussions. A teaching background is not required. Full training is provided by Primary Ethics, the not-for-profit organisation approved to design curriculum and training for the ethics program. Training consists of a two-day workshop and short online modules. Lesson materials are provided.

An ethics teacher training workshop will be held locally in Term One 2019.

Suitable volunteers have an interest in children’s education and the development of thinking skills and must be available on Fridays from 9:15 – 10:45 each week to teach a half hour class at Kororo PS. A small amount of weekly preparation (printing and reading through lesson materials) is also required.

If you are looking for an opportunity to make a valuable contribution to our school, please visit primaryethics.com.au and/or contact Gemma Brooks, Kororo Ethics Coordinator, 0421 950 928, email: [email protected]; or contact John Gray, Primary Ethics Regional Manager, Coffs Harbour Bellingen Region, 0422 333 238, email: [email protected]

First Lego League Robotics Tournament

For the last two terms some of our Year 4 and 5 students have enthusiastically participated in an extracurricular Robotics

Group ran by Mr Portelli and Mrs Sullivan. The students’ hard, and innovative work prepared them to showcase their designs

and solutions at a whole day, official FIRST Lego League Tournament held last Tuesday at Toormina High School.

FIRST® LEGO® League Tournament is a competition catering for upper-primary and lower-secondary school students.

Students met with like-minded young engineers to compete with their robot, while also learning about a modern problem in

science and presenting their own unique solution to the problem.

Our Robotics Team designed, constructed and coded a Lego MINDSTORM Robot which completed various ‘missions’ that

reflect real-world space problems. Their clever coding and robot design

placed them 4th in the Robot Games Competition on the day.

We had such a great day and our students represented Kororo beautifully,

showing team-spirit and sportsmanship. Congratulations to: Oakley W,

Isaac M, Max M, Max G, Mia C, Seb W, Evie R, Jiya F, Finn P, Wyatt B,

Reuben P, Callan H, Cayden F and Jack E.

Calling for volunteers – we need your help in 2019!

Our students really enjoy participating in the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program and to keep this program running we need your help in 2019! The program requires a volunteer School Banking Co-ordinator to facilitate the banking and distribution of School Banking rewards. This only takes a small amount of your time one day a week and the Commonwealth Bank will provide support in how to run the program. Your help with the program will greatly benefit students as they develop vital saving skills and also help our school with fundraising. Currently, School Banking day is Friday. If you are interested in volunteering for this great program, please fill in the tear off section below and return it to the school office. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————--
