KOC-G-007
KOC Standard for Basic Design Data.
5.0 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
5 1 The environment of Kuwait, is severe on all equipment and must beconsidered carefully before procurement of plant and equipment. t
must be assumed that, unless otherwise specified, equipment may besubjected to sand and fine particle dust storms, salt laden winds, thunderstorms, heavy rains, chemical contaminants and extremetemperatures.
5.2 KOC Standard for Basic Design Data, KOC-G-007 , provides thedetailed design information regarding the environmental, site, andutility supply conditions prevailing throughout the KOC facilities.
6.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
6.1 All cases involving plugs and socket-outlets and cable couplersinstallations in classified areas which are not constructed in
accordance with the requirements of hazardous areas shall requireapproval from KOC.
6.2 The types o f protection employed shall be selected from appropriatetypes as specified in IEC 79-0.
6.3 Plugs, socket-outlets and cable couplers shall be selected inaccordance with IEC 309-1, IEC 309-2 and IEC 309-3 and shall be ofsplashproof category.
6.4 Socket-outlets, plugs and couplers wi th a rated current higher than
16 A for both portable and non-portable equipment shall also complywith IEC 309-1 and IEC 309-2.

Al l electrical equipment and installations shall be protected against theeffects of heat that may be radiated or conducted from the processplant and the likelihood of damage due to vibration corrosion orchemical action.
Socket outlets plugs and couplers of different voltages shall no t beinterchangeable.
All types of plugs and socket-outlets cable couplers and appliancecouplers shall be so designed and constructed that in normal use theirperformance is reliable and without danger to the user orsurroundings.
t shall not be possible to engage plugs or connectors with socket-outlets or appliance inlets having different ratings or having differentcontact combinations.
t shall not be possible t o make single-pole connections between plugsand socket outlets or connectors or between appliance inlets andconnectors or socket outlets. Improper connections include single-pole connections and other connections which do n ot comply wi th therequirements for protection against electric shock.
Terminals shall allow the connection of conductors having nominalcross-sectional area in accordance with IEC 309-1 and shall clamp theconductor between metal surfaces with sufficient contact pressureand without damage to conductor.
Rewirable accessories shall be provided with terminals in whichconnection is made by means of screws nuts or equally effectivedevice. Screws and nuts for clamping shall have an IS 0 thread or athread comparable in pitch and mechanical strength.
