Unfortunately, we will be remembering this year for the pandemic that has plagued the world for the past months and caused us to curtail our activities. May would have been a busy month for us, instead we sheltered in place, to stay safe and to insure others stayed safe. The VA in Daytona Beach remains closed to volunteers so our monthly coffee and donut activity is still on hold. I have just learned that the annual 4th of July parade in Flagler Beach has been canceled also. We did have many wonderful activities and memories this year though. The assembly was presented the “To Be a Patriot” award, one of only three assemblies worldwide to receive this prestigious award. We put on a very successful patriotic dinner dance in January that benefited the Military Chaplains Ordinariate. Our Color Corps participated in numerous callouts throughout the region and is very well respected due in a large part to the efforts of our Color Corp Commander, SK Frank Consentino, and to the Sir Knights that give so willingly of their time. I want to thank all the Sir Knights that continue to support our Assembly by attending the online virtual meetings conducted on Zoom. I pray that we will be able to gather together in the near future to share the comradery that binds us together as the best Catholic men’s organization. As a new fraternal year starts July 1st I ask that all Sir Knights support our new officers and pray for them to receive guidance as they lead us out of these troubled times. Mary Queen of the Knights pray for us and keep our members and loved ones safe from this awful virus. May God keep you safe especially if you plan to travel this summer. Sir Knights, thanks again for all your support this past year. Vivat Jesus! Bryant Perszyk, Faithful Navigator

FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR REPORT – Bryant Perszyk

Worthy Brother Sir Knights, As we end this fraternal year, a year that has

flown by, I want to take the opportunity to thank all the members of the Assembly for all that they do to make this Assembly and our councils a success. It has been my extreme honor and privilege to serve as your Faithful Navigator. In my first newsletter last July, I stated that I hoped this would be a memorable year.

Our Color Corps participated in numerous callouts throughout the region and is very well

respected due in a large part to the efforts of our Color Corp Commander, SK Frank Consentino, and to the Sir Knights that give so willingly of their time.

Important Fourth Degree Announcement for the Color Corp

Brothers,

In accordance with the Supreme Master’s directive, I polled our Color Corps Members and ordered some reusable/washable black face

masks for the Color Corps @ $5.00 each. We will need to be prepared once the churches open up again. I suspect that there will be a number of funeral masses that have piled up

since the shut down. I bought enough masks so that I will have a few spares. Please see the directive below to all Faithful Navigators and Color Corps Commanders regarding the wearing of face masks. Frank Consentino, Color Corp Commander

--------------------------------------------

FROM: Robert G. Marrah, Executive Assistant to the Master

During this pandemic where we practice the tenets of safety for ourselves and others, we see the beginnings of the economy beginning to open.

Most are taking “small steps” toward the goal of reopening the economy.

The Supreme Master has just communicated to the Vice Supreme Masters and to the Masters an important message.

It is that “if” a call out is made to have Fourth Degree members in uniform or with sword and baldric attend an event, funeral or ceremony, and “if” facial masks are either required or highly recommended, then the only approved mask to be worn is a black one.

No other type mask with colors or designs, etc. are allowed.

Thanks and God Bless, Stay Safe!

We have 24 members whom I have sent a final notice to for not paying their 2020 dues. This totals $810.00. Most of these outstanding dues would normally be paid in person at our monthly Assembly meeting. Unfortunately

we have not been able to schedule our regular meetings. Please let’s stay in good standings by sending in your dues payment. The check is to be made out to ‘KofC Assembly 2810’. Mail to.

Thank you in advance. - Jim

INSURANCE REPORT

Think You Are Too Old for Coverage? Maybe Not…

You are never too young or too old to consider purchasing life insurance. If

you have a financial need for coverage, or will in the future, a permanent life insurance policy can be just the thing you need. When you are young and presumably healthy, coverage will be very inexpensive when compared to purchasing the same policies when you are older. If you’ve put off purchasing coverage, or you realize that you may need additional insurance, the Order may still be able to help you, even if other companies cannot. In fact, in 2012, the issue age of our permanent life insurance products was

extended to age 80, and in 2014, the issue age of our term insurance was extended to age 70. Naturally, your health, and whether or not you smoke, will be taken into consideration, so underwriting standards for risk and age apply. But, the extensions are a great blessing for me – and it could be for you too. Now I can help members that I couldn’t help before. Are you or one of your brother knights one of those members? Whether you’re 18 or 80, the Knights of Columbus has products that will work for you and your family. I look forward to discussing coverage with you.

Flag Day is celebrated by Americans on June 14 each year and commemorates the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States. Many Americans celebrate Flag Day by displaying the Red, White and Blue in front of homes and businesses. Presidents have also issued proclamations for National Flag Week.

STAR SPANGLED BANNER (origin): On September 14, 1814, Francis Scott Key pens a poem which is later set to music and in 1931 becomes America’s national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The poem, originally titled “The Defence of Fort McHenry,” was written after Key witnessed the Maryland fort being bombarded by the British during the War of 1812. Key was inspired by the sight of a lone U.S. flag still flying over Fort McHenry at daybreak, as reflected in the now-famous words of the “Star-Spangled Banner”: “And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.”

Francis Scott Key was born on August 1, 1779, and later became a successful lawyer in Maryland and Washington, D.C. He was later appointed U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia. On June 18, 1812, America declared war on Great Britain after a series of trade disagreements. In

August 1814, British troops invaded Washington, D.C., and burned the White House, Capitol Building and Library of Congress. Their next target was Baltimore.

After one of Key’s friends, Dr. William Beanes, was taken prisoner by the British, Key went to Baltimore, located the ship where Beanes was being held and negotiated his release. However, Key and Beanes weren’t allowed to leave until after the British bombardment of Fort McHenry. Key watched the bombing campaign unfold from aboard a ship located about eight miles away. After a day, the British were unable to destroy the fort and gave up. Key was relieved to see the American flag still flying over Fort McHenry and quickly penned a few lines in tribute to what he had witnessed.

The poem was printed in newspapers and eventually set to the music of a popular English drinking tune called “To Anacreon in Heaven” by composer John Stafford Smith. People began referring to the song as “The Star-Spangled Banner” and in 1916 President Woodrow Wilson announced that it should be played at all official events. It was adopted as the national anthem on March 3, 1931.

A PRAYER FOR PROTECTION IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O Mary, you always brighten our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who, at the Cross, took part in Jesus’ pain while remaining steadfast in faith. O loving Mother, you know what we need, and we are confident you will provide for us as at Cana in Galilee. Intercede for us with your Son Jesus, the Divine Physician, for those who have fallen ill, for those who are vulnerable, and for those who have died. Intercede also for those charged with protecting the health and safety of others and for those who are tending to the sick and seeking a cure. Help us, O Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who took upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows, so as to lead us, through the Cross, to the glory of the Resurrection. Amen. Under thy protection we seek refuge, O Holy Mother of God. In our needs, despise not our petitions, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.
