DEACON’S CORNER Christmas has come and gone. The feast of the Holy Family has reminded us how important family is to each of us and the society around us. Every Sunday during the creed, we proclaim what we believe but the family is not mentioned among the articles of our faith. Do we believe in the family? Do we really trust in the family, in its strength to accomplish its mission? St. John Paul II wrote in his diary that a "Lack of confidence in the family is the first cause of the crisis of the family." When we see the weakness and struggles of the family today, we may lose our hope in the family. The best way to recover our confidence in the family is to con-sider the ways of God. We trust in the family because God trusts in the family. God has chosen to visit and remains among us through the family. God entrusted His only begotten Son to Mary and Joseph - to a family, the Holy Family. And God continues to entrust the dignity of every human being to the family. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has invited us to consider the great vocation of the family as the domestic church. "In the family, faith accompanies every age of life, beginning with childhood" (Lumen Fidei, 53) "Parents are called, not only to bring children into the world but also to bring them to God, so that through baptism they can be reborn as children of God and receive the gift of faith." (Lumen Fidei, 43). When we Knights believe in the family, when we ask the family to become active and share its faith, the family grows. God’s ways are inviting us to believe in the vocation of the family, the domestic church. The Glory of God is the family fully alive. Deacon Terry

INSURANCE REPORT

If the living room in your home is on the far corner of your lot, the dining room on another corner, the kitchen in the street and the bedrooms scattered all over the neighborhood, your home wouldn’t be very livable would it? It is the same with your life insurance. Unless the in-dividual policies you own are fitted together to form a balanced, well planned program, they cannot possi-bly do what they should for you. Good money management calls for having the life in-surance you own reviewed at regular intervals. In or-der to be financially sound, you should know exactly what you want the insurance to do for you. My review is not designed to get you to buy more life insurance. Instead, I work your ideas and ambi-tions into a plan, and then organize it with your budget in a way that will bring you closer to your goals. Call me today to schedule your review.

I don't think it is too early to start thinking about our annual fishing trip. How many times have you said to yourself that you should go on the trip at least once? This trip should be on your bucket list. Start thinking now and be ready when the next trip comes around. The annual Men's KCO (K of C Outdoor Club) fishing trip to the Bishop Creek area of the Eastern Sierra's is be held on the 1st weekend of October (10/1/15-10/4/15). Join me and 40-50 of your Brother Knights, friends, and families for a great weekend. In addition to the South Fork of Bishop Creek that runs through the campground, there are the South Lake, North Lake, Lake Sabrina and Intake 2 fishing areas nearby. The event is held at the Creekside RV Park with campsites, RV sites, and trailers available for rent. You must make your own reservation for sites. They hold a few sites for us but they are first come-first serve. Contact the office at Creekside for a reservation of your desired site. Be sure to tell them that you will be part of our group. They may be reached at 760-873-4483. Activities include a fishing derby with many prizes (adults and kids, de-pending on attendance), a BBQ Tri-Tip Dinner on Saturday Night, and card games almost every night. If we have enough interest and help we may have a Sunday morning breakfast. Beautiful mountain (elevation 8300 ft at the campgrounds) scenery, good fishing (trout up to 5 lbs) and good people. You shouldn't pass it up. Ask anybody that has ever gone, they will tell you what a great weekend it is. This event is open to Council and Assembly members, their families, and friends. We generally have only male guests (let your wives and daughters have a "ladies night out" with other fishing trip widows). Lets hope that the weather, the Edison Company, and assorted others allow for more water into South Lake, Lake Sabrina, and the creeks. Like all of California, the Eastern Sierras need water/rain/snow. Let us pray that our drought ends before we have more serious water shortages and possible ration-ing. Special Note: The pond within the Creekside Campgrounds continues to be under control of the California Department of Fish and Game. They stock the pond on their schedule. All normal Fish and Game laws apply. For more information, please contact me at a Council or Assembly Event or call me. SK Bill Alexander PGK KCO Club Event Chairman 805-527-4720

CHARTER NIGHT 2015

If you haven't done so yet please mark your calendar for Jan 30 at St Rose of Lima hall for a most memorable evening. Charter Night celebrates the Knights and their families who gave birth to our council forty-nine years ago. It's a time to give thanks to these families who strug-gled to make ends meet, many times out of their own pockets, to provide the resources for our council to sur-vive. We recognize the vision and sacrifice of these families to provide the next generation with a viable council that is strong only because of the leadership and direction of these original members. Please join us in honoring the charter members for their lasting contributions at this great event. Cost for the evening will be $12.00 per person. A prime rib dinner with all the fixings will be served. RSVP is a must as we are limited to 80 dinners. Please Call Paul & Lisa Burke at the number below as soon as possible. Please take the time to come to this important event. There is no charge for Charter members and a guest. Social time with bar at 6:00 followed with dinner at 7:00 We need volunteers for setup and cleanup. To RSVP or to sign up to help please call: Paul Burke at 581-1175.

From the Financial Secretary—2015 Dues

By the January Business meeting everyone should have received his 2015 dues statement. If you have not received a statement please give me a call. (805 583-0725) Your 2015 Dues are due by 2/15/15. You can pay annually or quarterly. If the payment of the dues creates a financial hardship, please contact the Grand Knight to discuss your particular situa-tion. For those who do not know, out of your $44.00 dues, we pay $16.48 to:

K of C State per capita ($11.60) K of C Supreme per capita and variable assessments ($ 4.88)

The remaining $27.52 goes to support the operating cost of the council. Once you join the Knights, this $16.48 has to be paid by the council whether you pay your dues or not. So if you don’t pay your dues, the money has to come from the funds set aside for the operating costs. The only way we can avoid paying the $16.48 is to process the proper “Disability-Relief From Payment” form or for you to send a written request for withdrawal from the Knights. This can be written on the returned invoice. God Bless you and loved ones. Gil Lindberg Financial Secretary 805 583-0725 P.S. The $1.00 mailing assessment pays for the postage of mailing your statement and membership cards.

What better way to spend an afternoon than at a kid’s Christmas party. We had a good turnout kids ranging in age from 2 - 11 and each one re-ceived several gifts from Santa. There were games, crafts, snacks and grilled hot dogs. The smaller kids took full advantage of the play ground. A big shout out to Past Grand Knight Rick Os-trich and Jeremy and Jenica Atteberry for orga-nizing this event and to all who helped. Every-one had a great time.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BOWLING LEAGUE

The 2014-2015 season is progressing nicely with the first half concluding this month on January 8th. The winner of the first half will play the winner of the second half in May for the overall championship. Think about joining us this season as a sub or on the wait list for a regular position if it shows up. We can always use subs. Only $3 for a sub after you pay your USBC Sanctioning fees of $20. Let me know if you are inter-ested in joining as a regular bowler or substitute. Returning bowlers have priority on being a regular again. Additional new regular bowlers will be asked/allowed to bowl with the following order: being a Knight, a Knight's spouse, or part of a Knight's family (age 18 and older). Friends, neighbors, coworkers or others with an existing regular bowler as a sponsor will be considered as space allows. We don't need great bowlers but we do need those bowlers that want an enjoyable evening among friends and families.

The event will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Serra Center, Padre Serra Parish, 5205 Upland Rd, Camarillo, CA beginning at 5 PM. The tax deductible cost is $100 per person. A Live Auction for several items and a sale of raffle tickets for a Hawaiian vacation will also be available. Again this year, 2 Knights were selected as honorees by Fr. Shea for their many services to St Rose of Lima. This year's selections were Faustino Villanueva and Joe Ferrall with his wife Lorraine. The next time you see one of the honorees, congratulate them on their selection. For additional information contact Bill Alexander 527-4720.

Pope names 15 new cardinal electors, most from global south VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Underscoring the geographical diversity of his selections, Pope Francis named 15 cardinal electors "from 14 nations of every continent, showing the inseparable link between the church of Rome and the particular churches present in the world." The pope announced the names Jan. 4, after praying the Angelus with a crowd in St. Peter's Square, and said he would formally induct the men into the College of Cardinals Feb. 14. With the list, the pope continues a movement he started with his first batch of appointments a year ago, giving gradually more representa-tion at the highest levels of the church to poorer countries in the global south. According to the Vatican spokesman, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi, the new cardinals will include the first in history from Cape Verde, Tonga and Myanmar.

Does anyone know the definition of "taking for granted"? The definition is " To give little attention to or to underestimate the value of, to fail to appreciate".

There are times when we take people for granted. In some cases it's people who are very close to us in other cases it could be someone or some group that provide a service or help us in some way. I really believe that we take our Bingo workers for granted. We are always talking about how important Bingo is for our Council and we are always asking for volunteers, but when is the last time you heard someone thank the Bingo workers for all of their hard work? It's probably been a while. We should recognize all of the Bingo workers for their dedica-tion, the long nights, having to work because someone does not show up and for all of their hard work week after week. Bingo rarely takes a week off. For 2014 Bingo brought in just under $100,000 dollars. WOW!! Those funds are divided between Serving Those in Need, St Rose Parish and our Council so that we can help those in need and fund the many worthwhile causes that the Knights contribute to. Thanks to Tony Demarco, the membership chairman we have had plenty of new members during the past few years and I think it would be appropriate if our new Knights would consider volun-teering 4 -5 hours a month for Bingo. Charity is one of the four core principles of the Knights of Columbus. Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by help-ing those in need. To all of the Bingo workers, thank you so much for all you do
