KLINGER Denmark supplying systemsolution to steam customers

In 1999, KLINGER Denmark acquired the productionof globe control valves from HAGEMANN GLOBE. ThePN 40 steel-bodied KV globe control valve, developedin 2001, has opened up potential in the steam marketsegment and KLINGER Denmark’s market share hassince experienced a gradual increase.

In 1999, KLINGER Denmark alsobecame the Denmark representative forARMSTRONG steam products, enablingproducts to be sold as total steam systemsolutions.

Engineering linked to generalenergy savings - and soon to CO2 dis-charge as well - appears to be increasinglyimportant. So instead of single products, suppliers will be compelled to offer engi-neering and system solutions in this field.Earlier in the year, KEMIRA GrowHow A/Sin Fredericia, Denmark, realised just sucha cost-saving project that enabled some of

2 the condensate - which might be pollutedand thus unsuitable for reuse in the boiler- to be recovered as make-up water forheating the process water. To lift the condensate from the receivers tothe make-up water tank, KEMIRA GrowHowA/S purchased two ARMSTRONG me-chanical pump traps from KLINGER Den-mark. Project Engineer Niels Juul Jesper-sen has calculated annual energy savingsof EURO 65,000 each year for this system- and that excludes future savings thanksto reduced CO2 discharge! The plant willthus pay for itself in only two years. ■

Austria-based manufacturingcompany PRAHER VALVES GMBH has anoutstanding reputation and more than 30years of experience in the field of plasticvalves. KLINGER-Sogefiltres has obtainedexclusive access to the Belgian and Lux-embourg markets fo both the ‘Energy’ and‘Evolution’ production ranges.

The ‘Energy’ range covers allmanual valves such as ball, butterfly anddiaphragm valves, and also check valvesand strainers. Available materials are PVC,PP and PVDF.

In the ‘Evolution’ series, thesevalves are available with both electrical orpneumatic actuators. Fields of applicationfor these valves are the chemical and phar-maceutical industries, plus water treatment. With these high-quality valves, manufac-turing standards are combined with someunique features to create low flow resist-ance, high operational reliability and longlive. ■

KLINGER-Sogefiltres expands its productrange with high-quality plastic valves

KLINGER-Sogefiltres, Belgium, began the year well, addinghigh-quality Praher plastic valves to its product range.

New approach brings increased benefitsTecnoflow S.A., Buenos Aires/Argentina

Now, in 2004, customer satisfac-tion has not only become the key to busi-ness relationships; it is also the factor thatsets one supplier apart from another.

At TECNOFLOW Argentina S.A.,we have adopted this new policy in orderto meet the challenges presented by ourcustomers. And the result? TECNOFLOWArgentina S.A. can now offer more benefits.TECHINT Argentina S.A. - an engineeringand construction company with worldwideinterests - is just one example: in collabo-ration with a manufacturing company,

At the beginning of the 1990s, customer satisfaction was ex-pected to become the No. 1 concept of the coming decade.

TECNOFLOW Argentina S.A. has built tenspecial expansion joints as part of a con-struction project for the branch of anaqueduct on the Colorado River in theProvince of La Pampa. These joints havebeen designed to absorb the relative move-ment between PRFV and steel pipes laidacross the beds of natural lakes. To achievethe proposed objectives, close collabora-tion was required between TECNOFLOWArgentina S.A., our customer TECHINT, andthe manufacturer. The resultant synergy be-tween all sectors and processes has led to

a wider service offer, as well as increasedbenefits. ■

Groupe EYNARD ROBIN our partner in France, hascontinued a rapid and exciting development campaignwith the opening of a new, full-service branch in Le Havre,Normandy, on 1 April 2004. The new team has wideexperience in the sealing industry.

A strategic new location in FranceKlinger Administration AG, Glasgow/UK

For the French pe-trochemical industry, Le Ha-vre is the second most impor-tant location in the country. Itis thanks to this facility thatGroupe EYNARD ROBIN canrespond to the local needs ofthis demanding industry. LeHavre is more than 600 kmsfrom the group’s head officein Lyon.

The new branch isable to offer a complete rangeof products and services.EYNARD ROBIN Normandieis equipped with presses andnew waterjet cutting facilities, while its comprehensivewarehouse carries a completerange of KLINGERsil, Top-chem, graphite sheets, cutgaskets, spiral wound gas-kets, braided packings andother associated products forimmediate delivery.

EYNARD ROBIN Normandie’s ITsystem is connected to all other centres inFrance. That means maximum stock utili-sation, plus easy movement of stock be-tween locations. This is important, bear-ing in mind the demanding conditions thatexist in France, the strength of the compe-

tition, and the large size ofthe country (almost 1000kms by road from Le havreto Marseille).

With this new faci-lity - the fourth in the pro-gramme - Groupe EYNARDROBIN now has a physicalpresence in all of France’schemical and petrochemicalareas.

Other facilities arelocated in Marseille, Lyonand Mulhouse - not forget-ting the fifth site: the cen-tral distribution operationin Oucques, near Chartres,to the southwest of Paris.

The group of inde-pendent KLINGER compa-nies would like to extend awarm welcome to its newcolleagues in Normandy, and looks forward to a suc-cessful future together. ■

The State University of New York (SUNY) in Fredonia haschosen KLINGER valves for the expansion of its districtheating system.

KLINGER Ballostar valves havebeen purchased for the main distributionlines, along with KLINGER piston valvesfor isolation of the branch lines.

The Ballostar valves were se-lected because of their superior sealingsystem and low-pressure drop. Valves were

purchased with drains ready to be drilled,NPT tapped and NPT plugged for the sub-sequent addition of drain valves as andwhen required. Rated the most flexiblevalves on the market, Ballostar valves pro-vide the following benefits:

Many parts become oneRich. Klinger Dichtungstechnik GmbH & Co. KG/Austria

A further step towards the completion of ourTOPCHEM® programme.

There are applications that re-quire seals larger than the 1500 x 1500manufacturing dimensions of TOPCHEM®

materials. There are also applications thatfor cost reasons require components to beassembled from segments using a varietyof techniques. The most familiar are:

■ Gluing■ Welding■ Jointing

Gluing PTFE is a complicated proce-dure. After mounting the PTFE parts, a sur-face etching solvent is required that doesnot come without risk. Moreover, the useof adhesive results in a much weaker joint.

The method is therefore not suitable for allTOPCHEM® applications.

Jointing techniques, on the otherhand, require expensive tools that must be

adjusted to the shapeof the separate parts.Thermal weldingmounted materials, however, has proven tobe the most straight-forward and cheapestmethod for jointingTOPCHEM®segments.

When welding filled PTFE materials- and that means TOPCHEM® sheets, too -in addition to heat and pressure, an auxil-iary material will be required in order tofuse the join properly. To achieve the weldin a single procedure, our competitors usea foil made from PFA, FEP and similar ma-terials - and as a result weaken the sur-rounding area.

A process has been developed thatavoids such weakening when weldingKLINGER® -top-chem materials. We arenow in a position to manufacture foils withthe identical composition and properties asthe welded material.

As a result, the welds possess thesame chemical and heat resistance as therest of the material. It is therefore possibleto manufacture a jointed seal that is ho-mogenous, despite the jointing procedureand application of the foil.

The following equipment is all youneed to complete the weld: a grinder forpreparing the joint; and two electricallyheated plates and the KLINGER®-top-chemwelding tape as welding compound (seepictures). The temperature of the platesmust lie between 340 - 370 °C, and shouldnot exceed 400 °C.

Thanks to the small size and simpli-city of the equipment as well as the use ofthe foil, this is an excellent method for cre-ating homogenous joints betweenKLINGER®top-chem segments.

A TOPCHEM®welding manual hasalready been shipped to all members ofthe group of independent Klinger compa-nies. You can also download it fromwww.klinger.co.at. ■

Valf San ve Tic A/S (Turkey) (appearing atthe show to promote its complementaryproducts) KLINGER Fluid Control GmbHhas now obtained sufficient informationand contacts to build up a clear picture ofthe market in Iraq and Kuwait. It was pos-sible to forge important personal relation-ships at meetings with the Director of theMinistry of Oil (Iraq) and the GM of South-ern Oil (Iraq).

Wolfgang Steinwender was alsovery pleased to welcome Mr Arumuganfrom MEW (Ministry of Electricity and Wa-ter) and Mr Samidurai from KOC (KuwaitOil Company) to the KLINGER stand. Totop it all, the show was also the venue forsigning an agency contract for the supplyof level gauges and valves to Kuwait. ■

Our key sealing materials havebeen tested in accordance with the VDIGuideline 2440 (emission control) and canbe regarded as high-grade gaskets (TA-Luft). They include:

Our new partner Mr WilsonNdlovu, who holds an MBA from OxfordBrookes UK, is extremely upbeat about theprospects for thisfledgling companyand will be taking ad-vantage of the latestinitiatives in severalSouth African indus-trial sectors - includ-ing mining and petro-chemicals, two sec-tors that have recently signed up to a char-ter that will compel them to assist in theadvancement of black business peoplewithin the South African economy. As a re-
