Th is study is dedicated to our dear colleague Russ Butler FASLA, who passed on in December 2009. His career as a noted American landscape

architect spanned over 30 years. His most cherished projects were the Rwanda projects, including the Kigali Conceptual Master Plan, the

Rwamagana Conceptual Master Plan, the Bugesera International Airport, and the Kigali Sub Areas in this booklet. His contributions to all these

projects were signifi cant, including broad concepts and small artistic details, always contributed with an eye for the heart of the Rwandan culture and

from the heart of a great man. He will be deeply missed by us all.
