CLUB WELCOME

For the first time Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC play host to Manly United FC in the National Premier League at Popondetta Park. We warmly welcome our members, players, supporters and valued sponsors of Mount Druitt Town Rangers FC and we extend this welcome to our opponents to what promises to be an exciting night of Football, proudly brought to you by our long term sponsor Great Western KIA, the KIA Eastern Region Dealer of the Year.

As Season 2019 continues into the second cycle of the all important Club Championship, Manly United FC sit in 5th position having collected points across the three Senior NPL fixtures while on the road to Sydney FC, 19 in total. Popondetta promises not to be as accommodating as Lambert Pk!

Unfortunately the results of others last weekend saw Rangers drop a rung on the Championship ladder despite splitting the points versus 2018 league winners Sydney Olympic. Back home coaches Desmond, Montgomery and D’Ermilio will have their charges primed to recover that lost rung on the Championship ladder. Both clubs are backing-up for their 3rd game in a week following the FFA Cup fixtures. Both progressing to the coveted Round of 32.

The #MagicOfTheCup for Rangers may well prove to be a season inspiring moment. Defeating the League leaders Wollongong Wolves at Ian McLennan Park is something to inspire belief. Add a couple of new quality signings, experienced campaigners, and an early goal from the opening minutes was defended on a bleak cold night certainly warmed the dressing shed. To all those who came out and supported our Rangers - thank you. Wow, a Round of 32 appearance, Rangers now enter the pointy end for the first time ever!

We again invite and encourage all our Rangers members and supporters to roar the lads home. Let’s rock the joint with a healthy, vocal and energetic crowd in the cauldron of ‘Royal’ Popondetta to cheer home our Rangers.

We sincerely thank the outstanding support of our Blacktown City Council for their enormous contribution and efforts put into preparing the Popondetta playing surface and facilities.

Rangers, it’s a grand ol’ team to play for…

For all we know there’s gunna be a show…

Rangers members ethnic and religious diversity has always been reflective of our community, proudly football at Popondetta continues to unite in our 50th Season continues, players consider their future opportunities and pathways it is worth a look at some of the players in our 1st Grade and their journeys in and out of Popondetta.

Rangers this week secured the services for an NPL journeyman MIRJIN PAVLOVIC and already he has scored to send Rangers into uncharted FFA Cup territory with a Round of 32 appearance. Of Croatian heritage, Pav’s very interesting football journey started right here in

the gates of Popondetta Park. Selected in the 2001 u12s Cadet League he was coached by our President Mark ‘Robbo’ Robertson. A raw natural talent Robbo nurtured and developed his love of football. Pav has fond memories of Robbo, his son Matt picking him and a few teammates up and dropping them off from training - with the odd Maccas run!. Pav moved beyond the gates of Popondetta and played in the NPL before being picked up by Hyundai A-League clubs Newcastle Jets and later Wellington Phoenix where in 2010 he was selected in the Australian u23s. A season in the Indian I-League with Pune FC, back to NPL Sydney United before a stint in Melbourne NPL and onto Marconi in NPL2, Pav was a key to their winning promotion in 2017 to the NPL - including a GF win over Rangers! Barely a month ago his brace at Popondetta for Maconi in the 91min split the points for Rangers. Pav is a recognised marksman.

Missing 2018 through injury, Pav is excited to be back among familiar faces and the gates of Popondetta. Now that is an interesting and well travelled football journey! Welcome back Pav...once a Ranger...

In 2012 a young 11yo African followed his big brothers footsteps to Popondetta. Young JOHN ROBERTS was a raw, exciting, cheeky footballer who would dance and play with the opposition. Quickly he became a Popondetta crowd favourite as ‘Johnaldinho’ regularly weaved his magic in

the older age groups. Indeed, his first football tour was with our gun pre-SAP Town Rangers u12s to the Kanga Cup. On a frozen field he tore apart a much fancied Korean Football School team. John’s journey beyond the Popondetta gates quickly led him to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, as captain of the Australian u16s he was Tournament Golden Boot in the ASEAN Football Federation in Cambodia and toured India for the AFC in the Australian u19s. Picked up by HAL Melbourne City with Tim Cahill taking an interest. Family ties brought him home to WS-Wanderers where John won the Y-League in 2017/18 and a HAL contract. A desire for more game time has seen him return to his football home and football family at Popondetta, a field he has always loved playing on, “it feels like family”! At 18yo John’s football journey has just begun, with strong ambition to return to the Hyundai A-League, his focus for 2019 is to be his best and ensure Rangers remains in the NPL...once a Ranger…

A raw strapping striker came through the gates of Popondetta in 2010 to join Rangers u14s. Very quickly ALEX BOYADJAN became a crowd favorite, and by 2011 many would hang around to watch this gun squad demolish teams with Alex

frequently scoring hat-tricks for fun! By season end his stats were 50 goals with 50 assists! 2012 saw his talent tested with opportunities in the Senior program. Proud of his Arminian heritage Alex has been considered for opportunities abroad. Since venturing beyond Popondetta’s gates Alex has developed into an NPL regular. Lured back to his old Popondetta haunt for 2019, where he has such fond memories, we look forward to witnessing more of his trademark quality barnstorming runs and finishes. Once a Ranger...

“He saves to the left, he saves them to the right, we love CARLOS SALIADARRE, ‘cause he saves them all night”! Carlos’ professionalism and commitment to his trade, team and club is unrivalled. A proud family man, there are no other hands we would want at Popondetta between the sticks. Carlos is

Immensely proud of his Argentinian heritage. Carlos is the first to training and only too accommodating to our younger GK’s he is a great clubman. In Rangers 2018 breakout season Carlos was awarded Rangers Club Player of the Year and also recognised by the opponents at the FNSW Silver Dinner as Goalkeeper of the Year - a very popular choice.

Back in the NPL Carlos is a regular nominee for Man of The Match points. Previously Carlos has had a very interesting NPL career with a number of clubs, all based in Western Sydney and predominantly Blacktown where he has experienced promotion and relegation since debuting in first grade at 17yo.

Football highlights include being called into the Inaugural Western Sydney Wanderers Hyundai A-League squad in 2012-13 as an injury replacement towards the end of the season that included being on the bench for the Sydney Derby, and for those euphoric finals weeks as WSW sealed the League

and made the Grand Final before 42,000+!

It is no coincidence that Rangers recent success and promotion to the NPL coincides with Carlos’ arrival at Popondetta. We are pleased to announce that Carlos’ services have been secured for both the 2020 and 2021 season. ...it’s a grand ol’ team to play for...

From Uruguay to Popondetta Park is a journey FABRICO FERNANDEZ is delighted to have made, arriving for season 2019, Fabrico has quickly endeared himself as a crowd favourite. Fabrico’s football journey led him to River Plate in the Uruguayan Primera Division for 2016 and

2017 where he made 31 first grade appearances.

Aspiring to play in Australia he arrived for pre-season and early season glimpses of magic looked to have been evaporated in R#02, just days after his lovely wife and daughter joined him in Australia. Fortunately the injury was not as bad as first feared and Fabrico has since provided some amazing moments with quality assists, a couple of ridiculous goals being included in the FNSW Goals of the Week and Fabrico being included in the FNSW Team of the Week back-to-back.

Fabrico has become a regular and very popular helper at our SAP training sessions. Fabrico and his family are loving their time in Australia and are very keen to extend their stay beyond Season 2019...happy 1st birthday to Princess Justina, now over to Daddy to score you a goal and win tonight!!

MATCH PREVIEW

A big splash in the transfer market this week could help turn around Mt Druitt’s form starting with a match against Manly United on Saturday night.

Veteran Striker Mirjan Pavlovic has made the move up the M7 from Marconi Stallions to join the Rangers focused purely on finding the back of the net for his new team.

It is an injection of class into a struggling Mt Druitt team and shows they are set to put up a fight to retain their spot in the NSW top flight.

Last week they claimed a draw against a stuttering Sydney Olympic and will want to build off that result.

Coach Aidan Desmond still has issues with a leaky defence but expect the injection of Pavlovic to get opposition sides to sit a little deeper when the play the Rangers.

Their opponents Manly United found their scoring touch again as they fought back against Sydney FC to win 3-1.

Manly has scored six goals from their last three games but have conceded five, although four

arrived in a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of league leaders Wollongong.

Brendan Cholakian continues to be the ever constant force for the Northern Beaches side and silencing him goes a long way to holding Manly’s attack in check.

He has scored seven goals this campaign as well as providing plenty of assists.

Coach Paul Dee will have his eye on closing down Mt Druitt’s new attacking threat but is surely going to target their paper thin defence.

This game could feature goals with both sides capable of putting the ball in the back of the net with ease.

Sydney Olympic FC 2 – Mount Druitt Town Rangers 2 at Belmore Sports Ground

Mount Druitt Town Rangers has salvaged a point in a 2-2 draw with Sydney Olympic on Sunday evening at Belmore Sportsground.

The home side managed to quintuple the amount of shots had by Mount Druitt, but Carlos Saliadarre’s stellar efforts kept them at bay.

Alex Sanchez’s double was muffled out by goals to Alex Boyadjian and Jordan Roberts.

The draw comes in stark contrast to the last time the two teams met, where Olympic enjoyed a remarkable 6-2 victory over the Rangers.

Sydney FC 1 – Manly United 3 at Lambert Park

Manly United has fought back to claim a 3-1 victory against Sydney FC at Lambert Park on Saturday.

Hamish Lamberton netted early for a resilient Sydney FC but a brace via Lewis Miccio and a late Nikola Taneski strike cancelled out the early advantage in a dominant display from Manly.

It was a solid return to form for the boys from the Northern Beaches as they bounced back from last round’s loss to Sydney United 58.

The result puts them back in the race for finals football closing the gap to the top five.

U20’S MATCH PREVIEW

Mt Druitt will look to pick themselves up on Saturday afternoon after an ordinary run of results which has seen them slip to ninth place ahead of this week’s match against Manly United.

The Rangers were beaten 2-1 by Sydney Olympic in Round 13; Jordan Gomez on the scoresheet for Mt Druitt as they lost for the sixth time in 2019. Still, Mt Druitt could overtake their Round 14 opponents, Manly United, should they manage to win on Saturday.

Manly sit two points – and two places – above Mt Druitt in seventh, following a 1-0 win over Sydney FC at Lambert Park last weekend.

Jamie Glover scored the only goal of the game in spectacular style to take his side within three points of the top five places, with Manly now looking to string together consecutive victories for the first time in over a month.
