for Faculty Affairs & Development at UKMC: Do you hear
what I hear? Recent Advances in Understanding How
Hearing Loss Alters the Brain. This course will review how
hearing loss is studied in the laboratory. Participants will also
learn about recent advances in how tinnitus changes brain
function. Finally, Dr. Durham will share the latest advance‐
ments in lab research that demonstrate improvement in the
treatment of human hearing loss. 2Hr.
2:30—3:00 p.m. Refreshment Break
3:00 – 5:00 p.m. Doug Livingston, J.D., Ph.D., Au.D. , MB.A., Excalibur Business Consultants, LLC:Legal Considerations For The Hearing Health CareProfessional. This course focuses on the legal responsibilities associated with the hearing profession. Legal issues & practice management will be reviewed including laws & regulations involving people with hearing loss and the hearing industry. Some of the topics include ethics, torte, fraud & malpractice. 2Hr.

8:00 – 9:00 a.m. Doug Lewis J.D. , Ph.D., Au.D., MB.A., Legal Considerations for the Hearing Health Care Professional. Continuation of the Thursday presentation which focuses on the legal responsibilities associated with the hearing profession. Case Studies will also be shared. 1 Hr.
9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Leann Powers, Au.D.; Signia, Spectral
Notching of Amplification As A Treatment For Tinnitus.
Clinical evidence indicates that the sharp edges obtained by
spectrally notching prescribed amplification in hearing in‐
struments is a viable treatment for tonal tinnitus. This
course will review this evidence as a treatment option.

Understanding the Integration of Bluetooth in Hearing
Instruments. This course will define the different types of wire‐
less transmission to hearing instruments for connection of media
devices. Each technology type will be explored along with some
universal trouble shooting techniques that apply across all
manufacturer’s devices. .5Hr.
