Ask pupils higher level questions such as:- What if you were the headline? How would you feel if it was a positive story? How would you feel if it was a negative story about you? Have you ever been in a photograph you don’t like? How would you feel if the photograph was in a newspaper? Choose a pupil to record responses. Introduction Year 9 Core 1 Health and Wellbeing Unit 2 Health and the Media Body Image Lesson 2 ‘Does My Bum Look Big..? In groups of no more than four, ask pupils to study and discuss a photograph provided from Set A. Instruct them to make notes about the photograph. Ask pupils to highlight changes made to the original photograph. Now, ask pupils to discuss why the changes have been made and to make notes. What image is being projected by the modified photo? Ask groups to share their thoughts with the class. Next, issue pupils with a photograph from Set B. In groups, study and discuss. Again, make notes on the sheet provided. Ask pupils what messages these images are projecting. Each group to share their responses with the class. Place a selection of magazines, newspapers etc. and A3 paper on each table.
