Our ref: 3797/0707/JBdn KEY CONTRACTS FOR SPECIALIST SWITCHGEAR SYSTEMS COMPANY Well-known switchgear systems supplier RBF Technology (Pty) Limited of Johannesburg continues to entrench its position as a key supplier on a variety on mining and industrial projects in Southern Africa. Managing Director, Johan Basson says that the increased project activity in mining, power generation, infrastructure upgrades and heavy industry have boosted the electrical manufacturing sector significantly over the past 18 months, and predicts that this trend will continue for a few years without significant downturn. Basson maintains that the biggest challenge remains the acute shortage of technical skills and competence, and encourages the manufacturing sector to seriously commit resources for training at all levels. RBF’s success with larger projects is one of the positive results of committing to training, upliftment, and a clear focus on customer needs. Basson said that RBF are presently busy on a large variety of projects throughout Southern Africa. In the mining sector alone, coal, gold, platinum, diamonds, copper and nickel all feature strongly. He adds that the Company is presently producing switchgear systems destined for Zambia, Ghana, DRC, Botswana, Namibia and Lesotho, besides the local projects in South Africa. RBF has a very comprehensive range of switchgear systems, covering all the permutations of application, environment, installation and features contained in the National Standard (SANS 1473-1) and International Standard. (IEC 60439-1) The Company was the first in South Africa to attain the SABS mark on its panels, and is listed for its IS0 9001 quality management system since 1991. One of the key drivers towards RBF’s continued growth is the Company’s ability to accommodate specific customer needs, made possible though comprehensive facilities and competent staff. Basson says that RBF is one of very few Companies that can handle a number of large projects at any one time. The Company’s B100/C100 range is especially popular, due to its robust, simple construction, and its comprehensive type test certification for fault levels up to 100kA/1Sec. This system also carries certification for internal arc testing. Basson added that more than 25 000 sections have been installed in Southern Africa and abroad, including countries such as Indonesia, Chile, Peru, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia, Turkey, France and Germany.
